[Bug 742679] Re: No Double Right Pointing Triangle and Bar Icon for "Play the next item"

2011-07-08 Thread Alan Musnikow
The problem is still there in Banshee 2.0 (2.0.0) in the latest Ubuntu Release
11.04 (natty).
There is still no double right pointing triangles and bar icon for "Play the
next item" and the "Shuffle" icon pop-up tip Is still "Play the next item".

[Bug 742679] Re: No Double Right Pointing Triangle and Bar Icon for "Play the next item"

2011-04-19 Thread Alan Musnikow
While Banshee 2.0 (2.0.0) was playing, the double right pointing
triangles and bar icon for "Play the next item" was replaced by a
crossed curved arrows icon, which is labeled "Play the next item" and
which plays the next item. So, the crossed curved arrows icon is back
and the the double right pointing triangles and bar icon disappeared,
which is still not correct.

[Bug 742679] Re: No Double Right Pointing Triangle and Bar Icon for "Play the next item"

2011-04-19 Thread Alan Musnikow
I upgraded ubuntu 11.04 this afternoon.

In Banshee 2.0 (2.0.0), the problem seems to be only the lack of a "Shuffle"
icon and an inappropriate drop down menu for the "Play the next item" drop down
arrowhead. Specifically:
o The "Play next item" icon correctly plays the next item.
o There is no crossed curved arrows icon for "Shuffle".
o However, the drop down arrowhead on the "Play the next item" button offers
6 "Shuffle" choices.

[Bug 750584] Re: banshee says it is playing one song while it is actually playing another

2011-04-05 Thread Alan Musnikow
I noticed the problem yesterday when I was in the "Unheard" section of
the "Music" Library.

Today, I clicked on a song in the "Recently Added" section of the
"Music" Library, clicked on the "Play" icon, and it played that song and
displayed the correct time for that song under the slider near the top
left of the window, but the information to the right of the slider and
in the title bar was for a different song by a different artist, from a
different album.

Banshee is set to "Shuffle by Song. After playing that first song, the
title bar and the information to the right of the slider near the top
left of the window changed to the song that was playing each time a new
song started, but the song section at the bottom of the window never
changed and continued to highlight the first song that was played.

[Bug 446790] Re: [Dell Inspiron 1545] - Suspend and Hibernate menu selections only start the screen saver.

2010-10-25 Thread Alan Musnikow
Since I upgraded to Ubuntu 10.10 from 10.04, Suspend has worked correctly.
o Suspend works when I select it from the power drop down menu.
o Suspend works when I close the laptop.
o Suspend works when I leave the laptop unused for the set period of time.

On the other hand, Hibernate still does not work. When I select Hibernate from
the power drop down menu:
o The screen goes blank except for a blinking cursor in the upper left
corner.
  o The screen glows.
o The power light remains steadily on.
o It requires pressing and holding the power button for multiple seconds to
shut down the computer. When it is restarted, there is no indication that it is
returning from hibernation.

However, I can do without Hibernate and I am happy to have Suspend
working.

System -> Administration -> System Monitor -> System says:
  Ubuntu
 Release 10.10 (maverick)
 Kernel Linux 2.6.35-22-generic
 GNOME 2.32.0

[Bug 483335] Re: Rhythmbox 0.12.5 cannot start playback of Last.fm after pausing

2010-06-14 Thread Alan Musnikow
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 441444 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/441444

Based on point 6 in Ben Selinger's first comment on 2010-05-25, I found
an alternative work around to quitting and restarting Rhythmbox.

After stopping playback of a Last.fm station, select a different Last.fm
station by double-clicking on it. After a new playlist is displayed in
the lower portion of the window, click on Play and the new Last.fm
station will start playing.

If you want to continue playing a Last.fm station after stopping
playback, select a different Last.fm station by double-clicking on it.
After a new playlist is displayed in the lower portion of the window,
select the original Last.fm station by double-clicking on it. After a
new playlist is displayed in the lower portion of the window, click on
Play and the original Last.fm station will start playing, although with
a new play list.

2010-06-10 Thread Alan Musnikow
Above are the results of my running apport-collect -p linux 446790.
The problem still exists in Ubuntu Release 10.04 (lucid), Kernel Linux
2.6.32-22-generic, GNOME 2.30.0 on a Dell Inspiron 1545n.
When I left click on the Suspend or Hibernate menu selection in the menu that
drops down from the "C-" circular icon to the left of the user name in the
Indicator Applet Session on the panel, the laptop does not suspend or
hibernate. Instead, the screen saver starts.

apport information

** Description changed:

Suspend and Hibernate menu selections in the menu that drops down from the
user name in upper right corner when it is left clicked only start the screen
saver on a Dell Inspiron 1545n running Karmic Koala beta that was updated
around 6 PM 8-Oct-09 in Eastern USA. They do not suspend or hibernate the
laptop.
I do not know other ways to invoke Suspend or Hibernate.

2010-06-03 Thread Alan Musnikow
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 464037 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/464037

Can a bug when removing languages be considered a duplicate of a bug
when adding languages?

Can a bug in Ubuntu 10.04 be considered a duplicate of a bug in Ubuntu
9.10?

Can a bug in Linux 2.6.32-22-generic i686 be considered a duplicate of a
bug in Linux 2.6.31-14-generic x86_64?

If so, I agree this is a duplicate.

[Bug 483335] Re: Rhythmbox 0.12.5 cannot start playback of Last.fm after pausing

2010-04-23 Thread Alan Musnikow
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 441444 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/441444

I do not think this is a exact duplicate of bug #441444
I only have the problem when trying to Play Last.fm after stopping playing
Last.fm. I never have the problem when first opening Rhythmbox and first trying
to Play Last.fm.
Also, I still have the problem after upgrading to Rhythmbox 0.12.8 on the
latest release of Ubuntu 10.4, Lucid Lynx, Beta 2.

[Bug 446790] Re: [Dell Inspiron 1545] - Suspend and Hibernate menu selections only start the screen saver.

2010-01-18 Thread Alan Musnikow
Since I have never tried to install a new kernel version other than as part of
a new version of Ubuntu, it may not be worth trying to guide me through the
process. Nevertheless, following is what I have done so far.
1. I downloaded linux-image-2.6.32-020632-generic_2.6.32-020632_i386.deb from
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v2.6.32/.
2. When I opened linux-image-2.6.32-020632-generic_2.6.32-020632_i386.deb with
GDebi Package Installer, the Description ended with:
"You likely do not want to install this package directly. Instead, install the
linux-generic meta-package, which will ensure that upgrades work correctly, and
that supporting packages are also installed."
3. When I searched in Synaptic Package Manager for linux-generic meta-package,
I did not see anything that seemed appropriate for version 2.6.32, which was
not a surprise since that version is new.
I do not know how to proceed.

[Bug 483335] Re: Rhythmbox 0.12.5 cannot start playback of Last.fm after pausing

2009-11-25 Thread Alan Musnikow
Pedro,

I entered rhythmbox -D lastfm &> rhythmbox-debug.txt in Terminal and
performed the actions to reproduce the bug in the Music Player window.
Since I could not find a file named rhythmbox-debug.txt, I copied and
pasted the contents of the Terminal window to a file with that name and
attached it to this comment.

Please let me if I can do something to provide better information.

Thanks,
Alan

[Bug 483335] [NEW] Rhythmbox 0.12.5 cannot start playback of Last.fm after pausing

2009-11-15 Thread Alan Musnikow
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

Rhythmbox 0.12.5 in Ubuntu 9.10, Karmic Koala, on a Dell Inspiron 1545n
displays an error message such as the following every time it tries to restart
playback of Last.fm after stopping playback of Last.fm.
'Couldn't start playback
"http://play.last.fm/user/7add...de632.mp3": Forbidden'.

I expected it to restart playback of Last.fm rather than display the
error message above.

The source package is "rhythmbox". The installed version is
"0.12.5-0ubuntu5".

I work around this problem by quiting the "Music Player" icon at the top
of the screen and restarting "Rhythmbox". Only closing the "Music
Player" window and restarting "Rhythmbox" is not sufficient, since
clicking on the "Play" icon for Last.fm gets the error message above.

The first time Rhythmbox tries to restart playback of Last.fm after stopping
playback of Last.fm, it also displays the following error message.
"Search for suitable plugin?
The required software to play this file is not installed. You need to install
suitable plugins to play media files. Do you want to search for a plugin that
supports the selected file?
The search will also include software which is not officially supported."

Running the search results in the following window.
"No packages with the requested plugins found.
The requested plugins are:
text/html decoder".

** Affects: rhythmbox (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

Re: [Bug 436654] Re: NetworkManager assert failure: ERROR:nm-device.c:2754:dispose: assertion failed: (s_ip4)

2009-10-16 Thread Alan Musnikow
Africanus,
I have never had a problem crashing.

However, I am still not able to connect to my network wirelessly. To work
around this, I moved the Dell Inspiron 1545n close enough to the router to
connect by wire. I realize that crashing is a much bigger problem.

Best wishes,
Alan

[Bug 436654] Re: NetworkManager assert failure: ERROR:nm-device.c:2754:dispose: assertion failed: (s_ip4)

2009-10-10 Thread Alan Musnikow
After using Synaptic Package Manager to upgrade Ubuntu 9.10, Karmic Koala, at
18:30 GMT 10-Oct-09, the Restart resulted in the following error.
"NetworkManager assert failure: ERROR:nm-device.c:2754:dispose: assertion
failed: (s_ip4)".
That seems to mean this bug is not fixed.

[Bug 446790] [NEW] Suspend and Hibernate menu selections only start the screen saver.

2009-10-08 Thread Alan Musnikow
Public bug reported:

Suspend and Hibernate menu selections in the menu that drops down from the user
name in upper right corner when it is left clicked only start the screen saver
on a Dell Inspiron 1545n running Karmic Koala beta that was updated around 6 PM
8-Oct-09 in Eastern USA. They do not suspend or hibernate the laptop.
I do not know other ways to invoke Suspend or Hibernate.

[Bug 442416] Re: Upgrade to Karmic from Jaunty fails

2009-10-04 Thread Alan Musnikow
What I called a work around in the comment above is described in the answer to
the related question at
https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/update-manager/+question/83954, as
temporary. It is,
sudo apt-get remove openoffice.org-filter-binfilter

[Bug 442416] Re: Upgrade to Karmic from Jaunty fails

2009-10-04 Thread Alan Musnikow
Last night, my experience was similar to this bug description.
Early this afternoon, I saw a work around in a comment on this bug, which I do
not see now. I think that work around involved a command to ignore
openoffice.org-filter-binfilter, but I do not remember it. After running that
work around in Applications, Accessories, Terminal, I ran System,
Administration, Synaptic Package Manager, Reload, Mark All Upgrades, Apply,
which downloaded megabytes of apparently upgraded files, and reported another
error, for which Google did not find any reference.
A few minutes later, System, Administration, Synaptic Package Manager, Reload,
Mark All Upgrades, Apply, which downloaded megabytes of apparently upgraded
files, succeeded in installing release 9.10, Karmic Koala.
