Since I upgraded to Ubuntu 10.10 from 10.04, Suspend has worked correctly.
o Suspend works when I select it from the power drop down menu.
o Suspend works when I close the laptop.
o Suspend works when I leave the laptop unused for the set period of time.

On the other hand, Hibernate still does not work. When I select Hibernate from
the power drop down menu:
o The screen goes blank except for a blinking cursor in the upper left
corner.
  o The screen glows.
o The power light remains steadily on.
o It requires pressing and holding the power button for multiple seconds to
shut down the computer. When it is restarted, there is no indication that it is
returning from hibernation.

However, I can do without Hibernate and I am happy to have Suspend
working.

System -> Administration -> System Monitor -> System says:
  Ubuntu
     Release 10.10 (maverick)
     Kernel Linux 2.6.35-22-generic
     GNOME 2.32.0
