[Bug 2062501] Re: Dhcpcd prioritizes (unconnnected) LAN adapter over WLAN, causing a 5 min boot delay

2024-04-20 Thread Albert Weichselbraun
Thank you for helping debug this issue. I concur with your assessment.
- this should be handled by aoetools (probably similar to the way nfs versus
nfsroot is handled).

2024-04-19 Thread Albert Weichselbraun
Sure - please find enclosed /run/initramfs/initramfs.debug

It looks like the problem is caused by `configure_networking` from
`/usr/share/initramfs-tools/scripts/functions` which is called due to
the installed `aoetools` package (which calls `configure_networking` in
`/usr/share/initramfs-tools/scripts/local-top/aoe`).

[Bug 2062501] [NEW] Dhcpcd prioritizes (unconnnected) LAN adapter over WLAN, causing a 5 min boot delay

2024-04-19 Thread Albert Weichselbraun
Public bug reported:

After upgrading to Ubuntu 24.04, dhcpcd spends over five minutes trying to
obtain a DHCP lease for an unconnected LAN adapter during startup.
Only after this process times out, the boot process resumes.

Consequently, startup works flawlessly, if the laptop is connected to
the LAN, but takes five additional minutes, if that's not the case.

Please find below the console output (obtained by pressing "ESC" during
bootup)

Setting ip link enp0s... up
Setting ip link enx0... up
dhcpcd-10.0.6 starting
dev: loaded udev
no interfaces have a carrier
exiting due to oneshot
Sleeping 30 seconds before retrying getting a DHCP lease
dhcpcd-10.0.6 starting
dev: loaded udev

exiting due to oneshot
Sleeping 60 seconds before retrying getting a DHCP lease
...
dhcpcd-10.0.6 starting
dev: loaded udev
no interfaces have a carrier
exiting due to oneshot
Sleeping 120 seconds before retrying getting a DHCP lease

After multiples tries to obtain a DHCP lease (which take approximately five
minutes) the standard boot process resumes.

[Bug 1882879] [NEW] Filled out form fields disappear after saving to docx/doc with LibreOffice writer.

2020-06-10 Thread Albert Weichselbraun
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu Version: Ubuntu 20.04 LTS
Package version: libreoffice-writer 1:6.4.3-0ubuntu0.20.04.1amd64

Steps to reproduce:
===
 1. Open a docx containing forms such as the attached IPR declaration form.

 2. Fill out some of the form fields.

 3. Save the file and reopen it with LibreOffice writer.

 4. Form fields that have been filled out are no longer visible.

Fix:

- Updating LibreOffice to 6.4.4 (either from the official site or from
ppa:libreoffice/ppa fixes this problem.

Further Notes:
==
- The form data can actually be recovered by opening the file with AbiWord (to
my best knowledge, neighter Microsoft Word nor the fixed version of LibreOffice
are able to recover the data).

[Bug 1716747] Re: linux 4.12 - high system load and mouse delays - pipe A vblank wait timed out

2017-10-26 Thread Albert Weichselbraun
I am still seeing this issues with 4.13.0-16. Ultimately this problem
(at least in my case) seems to be a PCI express power management issue
(see https://www.spinics.net/lists/linux-pci/msg64778.html).

The following workarounds solve the problem on my system:
 a) remove the PCI express card from the system, or
 b) disable the PCI express power management in the Lenovo X220i's BIOS

Another option is to use a kernel that reverts commit
8466489ef5ba48272ba4fa4ea9f8f403306de4c7, although the correct solution
would be to investigate and fix the power management issues which
trigger this problem.

[Bug 1716747] Re: linux 4.12 - high system load and mouse delays - pipe A vblank wait timed out

2017-09-18 Thread Albert Weichselbraun
Thank you for providing the test kernel. I am afraid this does not
resolve the issue.

As mentioned in the upstream bug report, it turned out that the problem
is triggered in the xhci-pci code and caused by an ExpressCard Renesas
uPD720202 USB 3.0 controller. I was able to narrowed the issue down to
commit 0e1f0ea which forces a PCI reset on that device at startup and
have reported the problem to the linux usb mailing list:

https://marc.info/?t=15056531861=1=2

It looks like the reset leaves the controller in an unstable state, triggering
 - pipe A vblank wait timed out and
 - pipe B vblank wait timed out
kernel messages.

On my machine reverting the mentioned commit reliably resolves the issue
for kernel versions 4.12.8, 4.13.1 and 4.13.2. The same is true for
removing the external ExpressCard.

4.12.8 is the first version that causes the reported issues.

[Bug 1716747] [NEW] linux 4.12 - high system load and mouse delays - pipe A vblank wait timed out

2017-09-12 Thread Albert Weichselbraun
Public bug reported:

This issue has been observed on a Lenovo X220i laptop:

1. Booting the laptop with artful's 4.12 kernel results in a very sluggish
system performance (mouse pointer delays) and a high system load.
2. /var/log/kern.log indicates a problem with the display driver (see below)
3. The system works without any issues if the zesty kernel (4.10) is used
instead.

Ubuntu release: Artful Aardvark (development branch)
Kernel package version: 4.12.0.13.14

[Bug 1427974] Re: Evince keyboard input fails

2016-09-13 Thread Albert Weichselbraun
I noticed the following error messages on the console when starting
evince from the command line:

(evince:14906): IBUS-WARNING **: Unable to connect to ibus: Could not connect:
Permission denied
(evince:14906): IBUS-WARNING **: Events queue growing too big, will start to
drop.

It looks like this is related to
 https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/evince/+bug/1587968

and the following workaround proposed by Sander van Malssen
(https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/evince/+bug/1587968/comments/11)
did work for me as well (confirmed with two different machines that have
been upgraded to 16.04).

   rm -r ~/.config/ibus

[Bug 1118446] Re: NetworkManager[14155]: warn nl_recvmsgs() error: (-33) Dump inconsistency detected, interrupted

Same issue here as well

I loose all network connectivity (to an eduroam/WPA2 Enterprise wirless
network) after the first log message occurs

[Bug 1131091] Re: LAN cannot be connected after wakeup

2013-04-10 Thread Albert Weichselbraun
I have the same issue on an X220 with the linux-image-3.8.0-17-generic
kernel package. It looks like that the device does not wake up after
resume, but it is possible to manually switch on the network card with:

   echo on /sys/class/net/eth0/device/power/control

[Bug 349767] Re: external USB hard drive disconnects

2010-10-28 Thread Albert Weichselbraun
I have run into this bug as well, but could make the following observations:
 (a) this problem does not appear if you use a kernel = 2.6.31 (that's
actually my current solution - running lucid using the 2.6.31 kernel)
 (b) this bug strikes on my IBM/Lenovo X41(Intel 82801 FB/FBM/FR/FW/FRM (ICH6
Family) USB chipset) as well as on my company's Dell Optiplex 745 (Intel 82801H
(ICH8 Family) USB chipset). My company's Lenovo X200 featuring an Intel ICH9
chipset is not affected.
 (c) its quite safe to use older USB disks such as a Maxtor 320GB external
drive, but newer drives are highly sensitive to this bug.

Maybe there is some feature for external USB drives which got supported
in 2.6.32 triggering this bug on drives supporting it.
