[Bug 1959309] [NEW] Slurmd will always fail with PIDFile set on systemd

2022-01-27 Thread Alexandre Otto Strube
Public bug reported:

I realized that slurmd always shows as failed on ubuntu with a

"Jan 23 18:03:05 c1-compute-1.wehi.edu.au systemd[1]: Can't open PID
file /var/run/slurm/slurmd.pid (yet?) after start: No such file or
directory"

According to https://bugs.schedmd.com/show_bug.cgi?id=8388#c1 ,

This is happening because we create the PID file slightly after systemd
tries to read it. Commands where systemd needs to know the PID (eg
systemctl restart slurmd.service) it will re-read the file (which
appears to be getting created properly). From a functional standpoint,
this error shouldn't have any impact on systemd or slurm.

The solution, is to remove the PIDFile line on slurmd.service:, according to
upstream https://bugs.schedmd.com/show_bug.cgi?id=8388#c3 :

The quickest workaround you could use is to just comment out "PIDFile=*"
line in the unit file and do a daemon-reload. instead of reading the pid
file we write out, it will "guess" the main pid (and in my tests does so
correctly).

[Bug 1946596] [NEW] lmod version is 5 years old

2021-10-10 Thread Alexandre Otto Strube
Public bug reported:

Hi,

this package is (was) maintained by Lucas Nussbaum in Debian, and
apparently by someone from TACC, the developers of Lmod (Aaron?) on
ubuntu.

Turns out that lmod 6.6.0 went out in October 2016, and this creates a
bunch of its own problems in supercomputing facilities which rely on
Debian and Ubuntu systems.

Aaron, if you receive this message, is there a way to bring this package
to a more recent release? If not, do you need help? Do you want me to
take over this package, here or in Debian?

By the way, my notebook is also attached to a docking station with a
displayport screen attached to it, but it happens as soon as the user
session is initiated, no relation to sleep mode here, apparently.

[Bug 352436] [NEW] Gnome session never finishes to load; Mouse works, keyboard seems not to, but obeys kernel

2009-03-31 Thread Alexandre Otto Strube
Public bug reported:

Upgrade from intrepid to jaunty, March 31, 2009.

GDM works, altough the username characters look garbled, missing their
upper part.

The first time, it went all though showing the menu bars, but with weird
greenish dots on the text. Mouse worked, everything else didn't.

Next boots, only mouse, nothing else on screen.

Machine: hpd330m , video intel 82865. No weird hardware, pretty plain
machine.

Re: [Bug 3198] Re: [radeon, savage] Starwars screensaver locks X

2007-11-18 Thread Alexandre Otto Strube
Perhaps you could post this message on the -devel list, to get some
attention to it...

2007/11/18, Neilen Marais [EMAIL PROTECTED]:
Well well, I have good news and bad news.

Good news: The demise of starwars in gutsy was greatly exagerated; It's still
in xscreensaver-gl-extra where it's always been
 http://packages.ubuntu.com/cgi-bin/search_contents.pl?searchmode=filelistword=xscreensaver-gl-extraversion=gutsyarch=i386

Bad news: Still crashes as hard as ever ;(((

I'm getting really frusrated for several reasons:

 1) I like the starwars screensaver
 2) the hard crashes undermine my confidence in general
 3) It's been more than 2 years since I first reported the bug with no
 apparent progress
 4) I don't know how to contribute to finding the problem in a more meaningful
 way.

Anyway, given the hard-crash nature it seems clear cut to me that it is
a problem in DRI or Xorg that is just brought to light by the starwars
screensaver. Presumably not only ubuntu users should be seeing it unless
it's some long standing ubuntu divergence from upstream that is causing
the issue; that seems unlikely though. I.O.W. should we not be taking
this upstream? By the way, specific suggestions regarding 4) would be
 appreciated!

[Bug 153350] prism54 does not work - need to use p54pci and p54common

2007-10-16 Thread Alexandre Otto Strube
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: linux-source-2.6.22

This bug isn't actually new. It has been hanging around for some ubuntu
versions.

The network card listed as Intersil Corporation ISL3886 [Prism Javelin/Prism
Xbow] (rev 01) does not work out of box with ubuntu.

Adding:

rmmod prism54
rmmod p54usb
modprobe p54pci
modprobe p54common

to /etc/init.d/bootmist.sh makes the network suddenly work.

The same happened to feisty (look bug 138979 and others), however at
that time the modules were called prism54pci and prism54common, (notice
the change from prism54 to p54).

I don't know why prism54, and not p54xxx, is enabled, as it never
worked. I had some other network dongles and cards, and I always had to
do the same.

2007-03-14 Thread Alexandre Otto Strube
Please note that we expect requesters to have an updated package
already prepared and tested! - Sorry, I don't have it. :-( Should be
trivial from those with knowledge on packaging though.

[Bug 90372] WAY too old version.

2007-03-07 Thread Alexandre Otto Strube
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: tdom

Feisty's tdom version is 0.7.8-5 - tDom 0.8.0 was released in 2004, and
0.8.1 was put on cvs two years ago.

[Bug 90372] Re: UVF exception: tdom 0.7.8-5 - 0.8.0

2007-03-07 Thread Alexandre Otto Strube
Thanks for your answer DHolbach!

Quoting perfsuite's INSTALL:

Additionally, if building for an IA-64 or AMD64 platform, you should use
tDOM version 0.8.1 or later. Earlier versions of tDOM had problems with
these 64-bit systems that have since been resolved by the tDOM developers.
At the time of this release of PerfSuite, the fixes had not yet appeared in
the released versions of tDOM, but you can retrieve a copy of the current
tDOM development version that should work properly through CVS:

 setenv CVSROOT :pserver:[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/usr/local/pubcvs
 cvs co tdom

Once tDOM 0.8.1 is released, you should use that version. Check the tDOM
web site for the latest release information.

Besides, the version present in debian and ubuntu is from 2003 It
seems like an abandoned package there.

2007-01-25 Thread Alexandre Otto Strube
Any :)

In fact, i've been installing systems with edgy, and then upgrading them
to feisty. If I create a new account on feisty, the new account should
reflect these settings.

Given the nature of firefox's bookmarks, I don't think this can be fixed
anyway.

Helton,

is this lsmod output being generated with the vanilla kernel using the
.config from ubuntu?

Did you take a look at ubuntu's patches regarding this specific device?
(By the way, could you please attach a lspci -n here too?)

2006-11-14 Thread Alexandre Otto Strube
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evince

On the attached document, evince prints the first three pages, and then
stops. pages 4 and 5 are not printed regardless of what I do. pages 6,
7, 8, 9 and 10 print fine.

The printer is a hp laserjet 4250 using the postscript driver. It has
its own ip on the network.

[Bug 68786] Re: I see dead people (aka talk with people which appears offline on msn) doesn't work anymore on gaim

2006-10-30 Thread Alexandre Otto Strube
I am using windows' live messenger 8.0.812.00 right now, and I can
confirm that this can be done using it.

My test:

- say to someone talk to me when appearing as offline.
- say him to close his conversation window
- I closed my conversation window with him
- Wait for 20 minutes
- I open a conversation window with this person and talk him something
- He received the message instantly.

In fact, now msn can even store messages sent to offline people, as ICQ
used to do ten years ago. But this is for another bug.
