[Bug 1945590] Re: Thinkpad E14 Gen2: Kernel panic with trackpad and trackpoint enabled
Indeed -27 does not contain the fix. We can find the release notes for specific package in https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux (in this case https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/5.13.0-27.29), and see if it contains the relevant patch. For this bug, we should find a line with "elantech", probably like this: `Input: elantech - fix stack out of bound access in elantech_change_report_id()` Also, thanks @bttksz for pointing to the kernel-team PPA :-) I was not finding up-to-date "master-next" kernels to try, since it appears they were removed from ubuntu-proposed, but now I can use this to easily check for upcoming kernels (already have -28 there). To set it up I used: 1. `sudo add-apt-repository ppa:canonical-kernel-team/ppa` 2. Since I want to avoid auto-installing the packages from there, and just have them available for manual installation, I also set low priority to this repo: ``` cat >/etc/apt/preferences.d/ubuntu-kernel-ppa-updates
[Bug 1945590] Re: Thinkpad E14 Gen2: Kernel panic with trackpad and trackpoint enabled
I see people here had been testing -24 kernel, but I do not find it in impish-proposed (in fact, I find only 21,22 & 23 there. Not even 25 which was already released). Am I looking in the wrong place ( http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/impish-proposed/ ), or was it removed from there? Note that in git repo I see that there is already a tag `Ubuntu-5.13.0-26.27` under `master-next` branch. Is that kernel available for testing anywhere? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1945590 Title: Thinkpad E14 Gen2: Kernel panic with trackpad and trackpoint enabled To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1945590/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1945590] Re: Thinkpad E14 Gen2: Kernel panic with trackpad and trackpoint enabled
@yrogge re: How is it possible: I am not familiar with Ubuntu process, but it is common practice that security updates have high priority, and if there is something urgent enough, the release process should have a way to make a "hotfix" release directly from the previous one, before the (ongoing) review process of the "next master" is done. (the changelog does not seem too urgent, but who knows - no idea what those issues were... https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/5.13.0-25.26) Probably the current "master-next" branch (which includes this fix) will have to be rebased/merged on top of the new master (-25) and maybe get a new tag "...-26" or something. However, I am a little concerned that I cannot find the -24.24 kernel in the proposed repo. Robot message above said it needs to be confirmed in 5 days, but people need to be able to DL it to confirm. Maybe they will re-add it after it gets a new tag as -26 ? We may need some input from ubuntu devs...
(a) confirmed: -25 does not include the patch (kernel panic on E14 G2). In impish git repo, master (tagged -25) is branching out of -23. Whereas -24 tag is still in `master-next` branch. (b) I cannot find -24 in proposed. Actually, looking right now, it seems like the whole `binary-amd64` section is missing (here: http://ports.ubuntu.com/ubuntu-ports/dists/impish-proposed/main/ ).
[Bug 1945590] Re: Thinkpad E14 Gen2: Kernel panic with trackpad and trackpoint enabled
confirmed 5.13.0-23 does not not fix it (E14 G2 here) However, searching in ubuntu kernel repo ( git://git.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-kernel/ubuntu/+source/linux/+git/impish ), I find it in `master-next` branch, that branch is tagged as `5.13.0-24.24` ``` commit 1e3fa9e4392020baa93e66ee4896ec9a34305595 Author: Andrea Righi Date: Tue Nov 30 16:56:00 2021 +0100 ``` Also, the kernels posted above ( https://kernel.ubuntu.com/~arighi/lp1945590/ ) work fine on the E14.

[Bug 1849762] [NEW] Keyboard stops working randomly [Deletes typed text automatically]

[Bug 1807295] [NEW] Sort - Checking & Handling File Types
Public bug reported: I am not completely sure if you would consider this a bug or not. Sort like many other applications does not check for file types of the inputs that are passed in as arguments. Any case, I wanted to entertain the idea of checking file types (https://github.com/pkmoore/rrapper/blob/master/anomalies/weird_filetypes.md). For example, sorting files that of type block/character/fifo does not make much sense as it will just hang or use up all cpu cycles. The best implementation of file type checking is in the coreutils application mv (copy.c). I have included a patch that adds file type check for the types mentioned above. Any input or criticism is highly appreciated. I would be happy to look an an alternative option or otherwise. Thanks! [Bug 1784473] Re: [radeon] Ubuntu boots to a black screen
After installing upstream kernel the issue is solved though boot time is long. I get this screen(https://ibb.co/isQYTz) after selecting the kernel from grub, not an issue to me but thought to inform you. Also can I remove the kernel because had remove virtualbox ** Description changed: After a fresh install of ubuntu 18.04LTS(dual booted with windows 7) when I selected ubuntu from the grub menu to boot into the OS. But I got a black screen I waited for few seconds but I was still at black screen. So, I forced shutdown the laptop. Again in second attempt to login I got black screen this time I waited for more than a minute and pressed power button once which suspended the pc then I pressed enter and I was presented with login screen. To solve the problem I followed this guide https://askubuntu.com/questions/1029624/ubuntu-18-04-live-boot-leads-to- blank-screen and changed quiet splash to nomodeset quiet splash. After applying this fix there was no black screen at the time of login, but the laptop started to freeze randomly even when left idle for more than 30 mins it would freeze. I had force shutdown each time and this happened very frequently. I again changed nomodeset quiet splash to quiet splash, which again leads to black screen after selecting ubuntu from the grub menu. I also did RAM test using Memtest86 from GRUB and everything was fine systemd-analyze time Startup finished in 6.015s (kernel) + 1min 26.820s (userspace) = 1min 32.836s graphical.target reached after 1min 25.472s in userspace ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 18.04 Package: xorg 1:7.7+19ubuntu7 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 4.15.0-29.31-generic 4.15.18 Uname: Linux 4.15.0-29-generic x86_64 ApportVersion: 2.20.9-0ubuntu7.2 Architecture: amd64 BootLog: Error: [Errno 13] Permission denied: '/var/log/boot.log' CompositorRunning: None CurrentDesktop: ubuntu:GNOME Date: Tue Jul 31 00:17:48 2018 DistUpgraded: Fresh install DistroCodename: bionic DistroVariant: ubuntu DkmsStatus: virtualbox, 5.2.10, 4.15.0-29-generic, x86_64: installed ExtraDebuggingInterest: Yes GpuHangFrequency: Several times a day GpuHangReproducibility: Seems to happen randomly GpuHangStarted: Immediately after installing this version of Ubuntu GraphicsCard: - Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [Bug 1784473] Re: [radeon] Ubuntu boots to a black screen
apport information ** Description changed: After a fresh install of ubuntu 18.04LTS(dual booted with windows 7) when I selected ubuntu from the grub menu to boot into the OS. I also did RAM test using Memtest86 from GRUB and everything was fine systemd-analyze time Startup finished in 6.015s (kernel) + 1min 26.820s (userspace) = 1min 32.836s graphical.target reached after 1min 25.472s in userspace ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 18.04 Package: xorg 1:7.7+19ubuntu7 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 4.15.0-29.31-generic 4.15.18 Uname: Linux 4.15.0-29-generic x86_64 ApportVersion: 2.20.9-0ubuntu7.2 Architecture: amd64 BootLog: Error: [Errno 13] Permission denied: '/var/log/boot.log' CompositorRunning: None CurrentDesktop: ubuntu:GNOME Date: Tue Jul 31 00:17:48 2018 DistUpgraded: Fresh install DistroCodename: bionic DistroVariant: ubuntu DkmsStatus: virtualbox, 5.2.10, 4.15.0-29-generic, x86_64: installed ExtraDebuggingInterest: Yes GpuHangFrequency: Several times a day GpuHangReproducibility: Seems to happen randomly GpuHangStarted: Immediately after installing this version of Ubuntu GraphicsCard: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. I also did RAM test using Memtest86 from GRUB and everything was fine systemd-analyze time Startup finished in 6.015s (kernel) + 1min 26.820s (userspace) = 1min 32.836s graphical.target reached after 1min 25.472s in userspace ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 18.04 Package: xorg 1:7.7+19ubuntu7 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 4.15.0-29.31-generic 4.15.18 Uname: Linux 4.15.0-29-generic x86_64 ApportVersion: 2.20.9-0ubuntu7.2 Architecture: amd64 BootLog: Error: [Errno 13] Permission denied: '/var/log/boot.log' CompositorRunning: None CurrentDesktop: ubuntu:GNOME Date: Tue Jul 31 00:17:48 2018 DistUpgraded: Fresh install DistroCodename: bionic DistroVariant: ubuntu DkmsStatus: virtualbox, 5.2.10, 4.15.0-29-generic, x86_64: installed ExtraDebuggingInterest: Yes GpuHangFrequency: Several times a day GpuHangReproducibility: Seems to happen randomly GpuHangStarted: Immediately after installing this version of Ubuntu GraphicsCard: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc.
