[Bug 308983] [NEW] timezone info is forgotten at reboot

2008-12-17 Thread Amit Shah
Public bug reported:

My timezone is +0530 UTC. I store my local time in the BIOS. After
upgrading from hardy to intrepid, my time always runs +0530 faster than
my local time zone, making it in effect +1100 UTC.

Even after configuring the time with the 'date' command, this doesn't
stay between reboots.

[Bug 257887] [NEW] intrepid installer fails to format/mount partitions on virtio disks

2008-08-14 Thread Amit Shah
Public bug reported:

While trying out intrepid-alpha4 under kvm, I started the VM with a
virtio disk:

~/qemu.pt/bin/qemu-system-x86_64 -m 1024 -drive file=/guests/kubuntu-
intrepid-alpha4-64.qcow2,if=virtio -cdrom ~/images/intrepid-desktop-
amd64.iso -boot d

This creates partitions, but doesn't succeed in mounting them.

When I start it as a normal disk:

~/qemu.pt/bin/qemu-system-x86_64 -m 1024 /guests/kubuntu-intrepid-

[Bug 214909] Re: radeonhd driver does not support changing panel brightness

2008-07-30 Thread Amit Shah
For me on a ThindPad T60 (with the X1400 chip), suspend/resume doesn't
work with the -ati driver, so I have to use the radeonhd driver to get
widescreen resolutions.

Switching to console using radeonhd doesn't work for me, just displays a
screen with what seems to be vertical and horizontal lines being added
at a very fast pace at random locations. Switching back to X worked
fine.

So basically I don't get any brightness control at all.

[Bug 239464] [NEW] Resume from suspend to disk (or hibernate) fails with latest updates

2008-06-12 Thread Amit Shah
Public bug reported:

I'm using hardy with all the latest updates.

This worked quite well on Hardy from about 1-2 months earlier.

I use the fglrx driver in xorg.conf, no binary kernel modules.

linux-image:
  Installed: 2.6.24.18.20

xorg-driver-fglrx:
  Installed: 1:7.1.0-8-3+2.6.24.13-18.41

On resume, I just see a plain white background with nothing in the foreground.
When I switch to a console using C+A+F1, I see a black background with vertical
white stripes. No text. I can login, issue 'reboot' and that all seems to work
fine. ssh access works as well.

I have a Radeon X1400 on my Thinkpad T60.

[Bug 192119] Re: [hardy] iwl3945 fails reporting networks with iwlist wlan0 scan

2008-06-12 Thread Amit Shah
In my case, when I issue a 'iwlist scan', it does find the network. On
issuing the command the 2nd time, the network is lost.

I tried this a few times with rmmod'ing and modprobing and checking
this.

I then started knetworkmanager and that app found the network and also
connected to it.

Looks like something changes when 'iwlist scan' is issued.

[Bug 222683] [NEW] Firefox in Kubuntu Hardy has a clunky interface

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: firefox

I'm attaching a screenshot. Looks like it's a very old QT widget set
that's being used by firefox. Looks very clunky and not pleasing at all.

I'm not sure if this is because of some package uninstall or because of
some change of settings or something else.

The KDE desktop starts up, I see the desktop and immediately there's a

I also installed from the live CD (again in KVM). The installed one also

[Bug 196944] [NEW] KDE4 keeps crashing at start in KVM VM

Public bug reported:

Trying the new kubuntu KDE4 hardy alpha cd in a KVM VM always results in
KDE starting and immediately crashing and the thing keeps happening in a

This might be an X problem.

This is not reproducible inside qemu.

Command line on host:

[Bug 196943] [NEW] Network IO with virtio-net driver and kvm results in crash

2008-02-29 Thread Amit Shah
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: linux-image

While trying the kubuntu-kde4 hardy alpha CD within a kvm VM with
virtio-net, network activity over the Internet results in a guest crash.

host details: kubuntu gutsy, kernel 2.6.25-rc3, kvm: 62+ (git)

command line to start VM:

qemu-system-x86_64 -m 1024 -vnc :2 -usbdevice tablet -net -drive
file=/guests/kubuntu-kde4-hardy.qcow2,if=virtio,boot=on  -net
nic,model=virtio -net user

This crash did not recur when I installed the 2.6.25-rc3 kernel (with
the virtio net module compiled in) in the guest.

The crash scrolled up too quickly for me to capture it; the last line
indicated it was in virtnet_poll().

2007-11-20 Thread Amit Shah
I use kubuntu from gutsy. The brightness keys used to work on feisty,
and stopped after an upgrade yesterday.

$ cat /var/lib/acpi-support/system-product-name
8743CTO

The dcop scripts don't work for me

$ lshal -m

Start monitoring devicelist:
-
00:26:54.354: platform_i8042_i8042_KBD_port_logicaldev_input condition
ButtonPressed = brightness-up
00:26:56.291: platform_i8042_i8042_KBD_port_logicaldev_input condition
ButtonPressed = brightness-down

By echo'ing values to /proc/acpi/video/VID/LCD0/brightness I can adjust
the brightness.

It's not windows related at all. suspend-to-disk, restart and you have

booting, surely something in alsa/kernel has changed causing this. Guess
we're eighter stuck running ubuntu 6.x or *BSD.

Re: [Bug 139851] Re: firefox crashes on www.reliancebroadband.co.in

2007-09-27 Thread Amit Shah
It didn't show up again after a reboot. Strange, I hadn't updated any
packages. I was trying out a new kernel and I don't think that should
have anything to do with firefox. Anyway, if it shows up again, I'll
report again.

[Bug 45404] Re: thinkpad-keys on ThinkPad X60* uses a large amount of CPU

2007-09-10 Thread Amit Shah
I have a T60 and run Kubuntu. I used to see 2% CPU. I changed some
settings on my system and it went off mostly after I disabled arts in
the kcontrol center (Enable sound system - uncheck), though I'm not
entirely sure if it was arts.

However, if I compile a newer kernel and install it, it thinkpad-keys
shows up at 2%. The stock kernels from the kubuntu repo (currently
2.6.20-16-generic) doesn't have this problem for me.

I have a Thinkpad T60 that has the ATI X1400. I'd like to use free
drivers instead of the fglrx one. (I've tried it, and it keeps crashing
X.)

Initial support for the R500 chipset has been added in X recently.
Hopefully we'll get a workable driver soon.

[Bug 124164] Network aliases defined don't come up upon resume from suspend/hibernate

2007-07-05 Thread Amit Shah
Public bug reported:

I've defined an alias for eth0, called eth0:0 in /etc/network/interfaces
like this:

auto eth0:0
iface eth0:0 inet static
  address 192.168.1.6
  netmask 255.255.255.0

This interface doesn't come up after resume from suspend or hibernate.
Only eth0, which gets its IP from DHCP, comes up.

[Bug 108392] Suspend / Resume loses sound

[Bug 112013] Fonts not visible for GTK applications

2007-05-03 Thread Amit Shah
Public bug reported:

I was running Edgy and have recently upgraded to Feisty. This problem
was in Edgy as well.

Fonts aren't rendered for any GTK apps in Kubuntu. I have tried with
audacity and ardour as examples. openoffice.org shows up properly, but
that could be due to the QT interface. The icons in openoffice.org
aren't in proper colours, though. They're all against a green
background.

I'll attach images to this BR.

This could possibly have happened after the font path change from
/usr/share/X11/fonts to /usr/X11/share/fonts. However, changing the
entries in xorg.conf didn't help.

There's nothing interesting in /var/log/X11.0.log

[Bug 53537] Partition numbers wrong in step 5 of graphical installer

2006-07-20 Thread Amit Shah
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: base-installer

I have a hard disk that had kubuntu breezy installed. I had several
partitions, with /, /home/, /boot, swap being hda8, hda9, hda7, hda10
respectively.

When I chose to delete / and reformat it, the installer showed partition
numbers that were different from the output of what fdisk -l shows.

To complicate matters further, on pressing 'continue' on that screen
shows the partitions, whether we want to format them, and the label --
this screen shows the partition numbers that are consistent with fdisk
output.

I would say this is a grave bug, as users might choose incorrect
partitions because of the inconsistencies in the two pages that show the
partitions.
