[Bug 1281053] [NEW] Unity application panel does not appear with mirrored screens on Intel graphics

2014-02-17 Thread Amos Brocco
Public bug reported:

My setup

I'm using Ubuntu 13.10 on a HP TM2 with hybrid graphics (vga-
switcheroo):

- integrated card: 00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Core
Processor Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 02) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller])
- discrete card: 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: Advanced Micro Devices,
Inc. [AMD/ATI] Park [Mobility Radeon HD 5430/5450/5470] (prog-if 00 [VGA
controller])

Problem
===

I need to work using a mirrored screen setup, with an external screen
connected to VGA (resolution: 1024x768).

When using the integrated intel card the application/search panel does
not appear when I click on the launcher icon or press the keyboard
shortcut: there is just a slight shadow on the top left corner (see
attached screenshot). However, if I switch to the discrete card
(AMD/ATI) I have no problems at all (panel shows up in mirrored mode).

In non-mirrored mode the panel shows up using both cards and works
correctly on both screens.

[Bug 1281053] Re: Unity application panel does not appear with mirrored screens on Intel graphics

2014-02-17 Thread Amos Brocco
I found out that if this problem only happens if, prior to setting
screens in mirrored mode, the panel is moved on the external screen,
i.e

1. Connect external screen
2. In the display configuration tool enable screen and move unity panel to
external screen
3. Select mirrored screen
4. Bug: application panel does not appear when icon is clicked

but

1. Connect external screen
2. In the display configuration tool ensure that the panel is on the laptop
screen
3. Select mirrored screen
4. Ok, application panel appears

[Bug 1179643] [NEW] Simple scan should allow copy to clipboard of a document (Patch included)

2013-05-13 Thread Amos Brocco
Public bug reported:

Simple scan should include a copy to clipboard option to directly copy a
scanned page (or a portion of it) to the clipboard.
Use case: use simple scan to get an image, copy it, and paste directly in
Libreoffice.

The included patch implements this new option (tested on simple scan
3.6.1)

[Bug 607244] [NEW] Segmentation fault with long master names

2010-07-19 Thread Amos Brocco
Public bug reported:

Running: ubuntu 10.04, amd64, libxi version 2:1.3-3

Some of the running application will segfault and others will fail to
execute if a XInput master with a very long name is created.

Steps to reproduce:

1) Create a master device with a very long identifier:

xinput --create-master Nel mezzo del cammin di nostra vita
mi ritrovai per una selva oscura
ché la diritta via era smarrita.
Ahi quanto a dir qual era è cosa dura
5esta selva selvaggia e aspra e forte
che nel pensier rinova la paura!
  Tant'è amara che poco è più morte;
ma per trattar del ben ch'i' vi trovai,
dirò de l'altre cose ch'i' v'ho scorte.
10 Io non so ben ridir com'i' v'intrai,
tant'era pien di sonno a quel punto
che la verace via abbandonai.
Ma poi ch'i' fui al piè d'un colle giunto,
là dove terminava quella valle
15che m'avea di paura il cor compunto,
guardai in alto, e vidi le sue spalle
vestite già de' raggi del pianeta
che mena dritto altrui per ogne calle.

2) gnome-settings-daemon will crash, and GTK/QT applications (as well as
firefox) will fail to execute with a Segmentation fault error for
example:

att...@blackbird:~/Scrivania$ dmesg

  (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously;
that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.
To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line

backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.)

made one you can download from
http://diuf.unifr.ch/pai/people/broccoa/jpkg/ ... install the deb and
then run make-jpkg jdk-6u10-rc-bin-b28-linux-amd64-21_jul_2008.bin ,
install the resulting deb file, and run update-alternatives --config
java )

I'm working with Eclipse 3.3.2 and it seems stable (previously I had to
use IBM JVM because of this bug)

[Bug 13199] Re: Drag n' Drop directories from File-Roller is somewhat tricky

2007-10-27 Thread Amos Brocco
this is strange, because I'm able to do it:

1. sudo nautilus
2. double-click on an archive from the root nautilus window
3. drag some file from file-roller to the nautilus root window ... Works
4. drag some file to a normal nautilus window... Works

[Bug 157535] Undo feature in dolphin deletes wrong file

2007-10-26 Thread Amos Brocco
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: dolphin

Undoing a copy action can delete the wrong file (Dolphin 0.9.2 in Gutsy) if,
during the copy, the file has the same name as an
already existing file.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Create a file myfile with some contents
2. Create another file named myfile in another directory
3. Copy the file created at 2. in the same folder as file created in 1.
4. Dolphin tells that a file named myfile already exists, and suggests to
rename the copy
5. Press suggest name (it will give you, for example myfile_1)
6. You now have both myfile (the original) and myfile_1
7. Select Undo in the menu
8. Dolphin deletes the original file myfile instead of copied file myfile_1

** Affects: dolphin (Ubuntu)

 Status: Confirmed

[Bug 155532] Re: [gutsy] nautilus information sidebar right-aligns text when background in use

2007-10-26 Thread Amos Brocco
I confirm this (see attached screenshot)

It is possible to reproduce the problem also by dragging a new background and
then resetting to the default one. To restore the alignment
hiding and re-showing the sidebar is sufficient.

(nautilus 2.20.0-ubuntu7 in gutsy)

[Bug 13199] Re: Drag n' Drop directories from File-Roller is somewhat tricky

2007-09-09 Thread Amos Brocco
About the Cannot extract archives in a remote folder foldername on
drag and drop...

I've looked at the code and, to me, it seems that developers have forgotten to
remove a test that prevented extraction to a remote folder in
the previous versions, when this was not possible. As now they added support
for remote extraction via gnome-vfs ***, I don't think the error message is
necessary.

so... I've attached a patch against file-roller 2.19.91 (it just deletes
the if condition for non local uris in the dnd extraction)

I don't have much time now, please test it :)

*** see http://live.gnome.org/TwoPointNineteen/ReleaseNotes , Uses gnome-vfs
to load and save remote archives, as well as to add remote files to an archive
and to extract to remote locations. USED.

[Bug 13199] Re: Drag n' Drop directories from File-Roller is somewhat tricky

2007-09-06 Thread Amos Brocco
I've just posted a patch against nautilus 2.18.1 on gnome bugzilla that adds
XdndDirectSave support.
The code is adapted from Thunar 0.8.0 (Benedikt Meurer).

see http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=171655

Unfortunately I currently do not have a Gutsy install... so if somebody
can verify if this patch works against nautilus 2.19.xx it would be
great

[Bug 13199] Re: Drag n' Drop directories from File-Roller is somewhat tricky

2007-04-25 Thread Amos Brocco
To Paco Avila:

Why not wait until implementing this protocol it the others apps :
development must start somewhere... what if nautilus implemented it but nothing
used it? Wouldn't it be the same situation?
Instead of just criticizing people about what they can afford to do or not do
for FREE (software), why don't you start to contribute actively or just limit
yourself to somewhat more constructive critiques?
Thunar implements it. : if you like it, use it!... but then don't go on the
thunar bugs page and file bugs just because there are features that nautilus
implements and thunar not.

To VF:

Now it's not completely broken... thanks to developers, it's halfway
fixed, and we can expect a complete fix for the next release. If you
think it's so easy to fix, that it's just a problem of motivation, why
don't you fix it yourself? Or propose a bounty for that?

[Bug 49201] Re: Un-necessary decoding of uncompressed WAV files

2006-12-17 Thread Amos Brocco
If I understood correctly... cdda uses the same PCM encoding as WAV, so
the conversion is just a matter of dropping the headers (if the wav is
44.1KHz, Stereo). If I'm right, I don't see a reason not to do this in
realtime, instead of using 600MB on disk.

[Bug 62660] File Chooser: changing the path in the location bar does not update list view

2006-09-27 Thread Amos Brocco
Public bug reported:

(problem in edgy)

In the file chooser, changing the location using the location/address bar does
not update
the list.

for example, if I want to select a file located in /usr/lib/jvm :

- with the old (dapper) file dialog I would
press CTRL+L, type /usr/lib/jvm, press Enter (the list view gets updated to the
path I've chosen) and then choose the file by browsing the list.

- with the new (edgy) file dialog, if I type /usr/lib/jvm in the address
bar and then press Enter, the open button gets clicked (so to open the
file, without entering the whole path including the filename in the
address bar, I'm forced to navigate in the file list)

** Affects: gtk+2.0 (Ubuntu)
