For me the issue vanished with linux-image-2.6.31-4-generic (2.6.31-4.22). [Bug 341850] [NEW] Missing Shortcuts for switching to workspace n, n2
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-control-center There are only keyboard shortcuts for * switch to workspace 1 * switch to workspace 2 I have 4 workspaces and thus cannot assign keyboard bindings for the other 2 workspaces. Distribution: Ubuntu jaunty (development branch) Packages: gnome-control-center 1:2.25.92-0ubuntu3 compiz 1:0.8.2-0ubuntu2 How to reproduce: 0. Have desktop effects on, i.e. run compiz instead of metacity 1. right-click on the workspace switcher applet 2. choose Preferences 3. choose 4 columns and 1 row 4. close the preferences dialog 5. From the gnome menubar choose System - Preferences - Keyboard Shortcuts What to expect: The ability to define keyboard shortcuts to switch to every single workspace What actually happens: There is only the possibility to configure shortcuts for switching to workspaces 1 and 2. [Bug 341850] Re: Missing Shortcuts for switching to workspace n, n2
I should mention that the configs are there and accessible through gconf-editor: The key names are /apps/metacity/global_keybindings/switch_to_workspace_n for 0 n 13. gnome-keybinding-properties seems just to be hardcoded to show only bindings for 2 workspaces, which is the default on Ubuntu. If it's too much work to read the number of current workspaces and show all respective options, I think it would be better to show the keybindings for all 12 possible workspaces then only 2. -- Missing Shortcuts for switching to workspace n, n2 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/341850 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 238755] Re: 'Account has expired' message when adding a new user
I have the same error, when trying to use chfn. This also has the neat effect, that it breaks installation of mysql-server, as the pre-install script fails. This is the command, which fails during the mysql-server pre-installation script: $ sudo /usr/bin/chfn -f 'MySQL Server' mysql Your account has expired; please contact your system administrator chfn: PAM authentication failed I get the same error when trying to chfn any other user or use adduser: $ sudo adduser foobar Adding user `foobar' ... [Bug 238755] Re: 'Account has expired' message when adding a new user
Yes, this is an configuration issue. By default Ubuntu's root account is disabled and chfn should surely handle this configuration and just work. [Bug 247027] Re: initramfs prompts because of dmraid
The same here. The dmraid devices (in my case /dev/mapper/isw_bgjcdcfheh_volume*) are not there when the boot scripts try to mount rootfs. Only /mapper/control is there. dmraid -ay at the busybox prompt creates all dmraid devices under /dev/mapper/ (and triggers udev to create my LVM volume devices which sit on top of the dmraid array) and the system boots fine after exiting the busybox. BTW, this works fine under Debian Testing and SID, so it's probably introduced by Ubuntu specific patches. [Bug 179535] Hardy: broken fontconfig configuration

We have no-bitmaps and at the same time yes-bitmaps. There should be only a single symlink to either /etc/fonts/conf.avail/70-no-bitmaps.conf or /etc/fonts/conf.avail/70-yes-bitmaps.conf. 2.) There should be only a single symlink to either /etc/fonts/conf.avail/10-no-sub-pixel.conf or /etc/fonts/conf.avail/10-sub-pixel-rgb.conf. autohinted and hinted should also be symlinks to /etc/fonts/conf.avail/10-autohint.conf and /etc/fonts/conf.avial/10-unhinted.conf. [Bug 51879] Re: default config doesn't rotate syslog al
I'll mark this as invalid. It's right that the log files mentioned in Dave's bug report are not rotated by logrotate. The reason is that sysklogd already comes with cron jobs to rotate these files itself. So logrotate is not needed to rotate these files too. If logrotate would include these logs they would get rotated two times, once by logrotate and once by sysklogd's cron jobs. Also sysklogd and anacron are part of every default installation, so the mentioned log files get rotated and the default configuration very sane in this regard without an additional dependency on a log file rotater liker logrotate. [Bug 120350] Re: [kubuntu] konqueror: cannot create a folder if a file of the same name already exists
Actually this is expected behaviour on Linux. You cannot have a file and a directory with the same name (on file system level, both, normal files and directories are 'files' and two in a directory can not have the same name), just as you cannot have two directories or two text files with the same name. [Bug 83009] Re: sky2 transmit timeout and soft lockup detected on CPU#0!
Tim, thank you for your work. Sadly, like Darren, I too encountered soft-lockups with that sky2.ko.2.6.20-14 (as with a complete vanilla 2.6.21-rc6 kernel). It's slightly better with this version. Removing the module and reloading it again makes the network work again. With earlier versions of the driver I often had to reboot because nearly everything segfaulted after a soft-lockup (unable to handle kernel paging request at virtual address ). Also I tested Marvell's non-free open-source upstream driver for several days and stressed it with downloading several Linux distro images while keeping the CPU high with compile jobs and [EMAIL PROTECTED] No softlockups, no nothing. That driver seems to be stable. If anyone wants to install it (download link in a comment above): the first line of the install.sh script needs to be changed from #!/bin/sh to #!/bin/bash to make it work. Further you need the kernel-header package installed for your kernel, i.e. linux-headers-2.6.20-14-generic and set a link from /usr/src/linux to these headers, for example $ sudo ln -s /usr/src/linux-headers-2.6.20-14-generic /usr/src/linux After that, the install.sh script should work fine. Choose the option 1 for 'installation', it will afterwards give the options to either remove or disable (it renames it) the existing sky2 driver, both options should work. -- sky2 transmit timeout and soft lockup detected on CPU#0! https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/83009 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 83009] Re: sky2 transmit timeout and soft lockup detected on CPU#0!
Lauri, it could also be that your problem is a different one. At least some lockups seems to be highly related to sky2 and network traffic. Anyway, since the 3 days I run linux-image-2.6.20-13-generic version 2.6.20-13.21 I haven't encountered any new lockups. Maybe the problem is already fixed in that new kernel? [Bug 51879] Re: default config doesn't rotate syslog al
I think in the default configuration sysklogd will rotate the mentioned logfiles itself, not logrotate. This is because logrotate is no longer part of the default installation. The sysklogd package comes with the cron jobs /etc/cron.daily/sysklogd and /etc/cron.weekly/sysklogd. These rotate syslog daily and /var/log/mail.warn /var/log/uucp.log /var/log/user.log /var/log/daemon.log /var/log/messages /var/log/debug /var/log/auth.log /var/log/mail.err /var/log/mail.log /var/log/kern.log /var/log/lpr.log /var/log/mail.info weekly. [Bug 87745] Root fs on LVM fails to boot
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: lvm2 Having the root filesystem on LVM fails to boot on current feisty. I am not sure this is a duplicate of either #85617 or #83832. 85617 could be a bootloader misconfiguration and 83832 involves LVM on RAID. What happens: During boot, the system hangs for a couple of minutes and then presents a BusyBox with the only error message being /bin/sh: can't access tty; job control turned off, which doesn't seem to be related to the problem at hand. At this point there are no lvm devices under /dev. When I do 'lvm vgscan' followed by 'lvm vgchange -ay; exit' the boot process continues as expected and everything is working fine. (Currently I mount usually with 'break=mount' appended to grub's kernel line to circumvent the several minutes long timeout) More details: My root filesystem is on a simple LVM on an IDE harddisc. The bootline from grub's menu.lst is /vmlinuz-2.6.20-8-generic root=/dev/mapper/main_vg-root_lv quiet splash and the rootfs line in /etc/fstab is /dev/mapper/main_vg-root_lv / ext3 noatime,user_xattr,errors=remount-ro 0 1 The problem started 2 or 3 weeks ago.
