[Bug 1643706] Re: snap apps need to be able to browse outside of user $HOME dir. for Desktop installs

2022-05-14 Thread Andrew Aitchison
> The whole issue also raises the silly question: what is so security-
sensitive about /tmp?

Another, non-privileged, user can write to it, so could leave a trojan
(malware) in there ...

Ubuntu has /tmp/user/uid which I assume exists to work around that issue,
but chromium wont let me see /tmp/user// or file:///tmp/user//

One workaround would be to consistently use a directory you can access
through snap, such as /home/USER/tmp, instead of /tmp. (Globally)
setting TMP, TEMP, TMPDIR and/or TEMPDIR may help with this ...

https://www.the-art-of-web.com/php/where-is-tmp/ describes some other
"solutions" to this problem that have caused problems.

[Bug 1830205] Re: There is no space between the offsets column and the first databyte

2019-11-02 Thread Andrew Aitchison
This isn't consistent.
I've seen it when grouping data as "bytes", but at the moment I'm looking at a
file which shows some space when grouped as bytes, no space when groups as
(16bit) words and lots of space when grouped as long words.
I have also seen the problem go away when "Show unsigned and float as
hexadecimal" is ticked
(and stay away when unticked).

[Bug 1851033] [NEW] ghex 64 bit singed and unsigned displays only show the bottom 32bits of the value.

2019-11-02 Thread Andrew Aitchison
Public bug reported:

ghex version 3.18.4 (and recent previous releases) have an option to show 64bit
hex values.
Unfortunately the displayed value is only 32bit.

The attached patch fixed the immediate bug by using a 64bit version of
pow2.

Alternatively a better fix might be to sprintf the values of the individual
bytes with:
   snprintf(convbuffer, sizeof(convbuffer),
"0x%02X%02X%02X%02X%02X%02X%02X%02X",
in[7],in[6],in[5],in[4],in[3],in[2],in[1],in[0]
);

With "Show little endian decoding" and "Show unisigned and float as

the file 0123456789abcdef (for which od -tx1 gives

) I would expect the "Unsigned 64 bit:" box to show
  0xEFCDAB8967452301
The actual behaviour is for this box to show
  0x67452301
ie the top 32 bits have been zeroed.
