[Bug 1076928] Re: FTBFS with libav9

2014-04-28 Thread andrew.46
Not a solution, which requires code changes by Audacity developers, but
a workaround here:

Audacity under Trusty Tahr: Building it with FFmpeg
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2219907

Probably something similar would work with libav...

have a huge presence in the Ubuntu world and a presence in the slideshow

I would strongly support the inclusion of UMPlayer. It is a fork of the
SMPlayer project that is being enthusiastically developed while SMPlayer
itself languishes somewhat.

[Bug 351392] [NEW] Jaunty Beta: VirtualBox 2.1.4_OSE cannot install Jaunty Beta

2009-03-29 Thread andrew.46
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: virtualbox-ose

I have been running Jaunty alphas with VirtualBox 2.1.4_OSE successfully
for some time using a Slackware host and Jaunty guest. With the release
of Jaunty beta I downloaded a fresh iso and attempted to install it with
VirtualBox.

Live CD works flawlessly but on installation Jaunty freezes at 90%
'Detecting Hardware', the screen goes black and the next screen shows
the 'Live User' screen with an icon for Install. A 2.3 gig install is
left on my disk but this is not bootable.

Some discussion here:

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1110607

I am not convinced this is a VirtualBox issue, there seems to be
something not right perhaps with the Live CD's hardware detection, I
file the bug report here as I am not entirely sure where it should
go> apologies!

[Bug 78455] Re: DEFECT in checkinstall: abort due to missing file or directory

2008-11-25 Thread andrew.46
Hi,

Can I suggest an easier solution that could be rolled out from the
repository? Checkinstall has a configuration file /etc/checkinstallrc.
If this could be set with:

# Are we going to use filesystem translation?
TRANSLATE=0

This would get around the well known problem with checkinstall as
acknowledged on their website:

http://www.asic-linux.com.mx/~izto/checkinstall/

and further discussed here:

Fix, as suggested by the Debian patch, is to alter the file:

Exec=gmplayer %U

I have queried the mplayer-users with mixed success:

2007-09-30 Thread Andrew.46
Hi again,

Oops! How do I know that it is not installed? Accprding to the .deb
package it should install as:

usr/
usr/lib/
usr/lib/libdvdcss.so.2.0.4
usr/share/
usr/share/doc/
usr/share/doc/libdvdcss2/
usr/share/doc/libdvdcss2/AUTHORS

usr/share/doc/libdvdcss2/changelog.gz
usr/share/doc/libdvdcss2/NEWS.gz
usr/share/doc/libdvdcss2/changelog.Debian.gz
usr/lib/libdvdcss.so.2

These files do not exist after the program has supposedly installed.

Hi,

Using Gutsy Beta I have installed libdvdread3 and then run the script:

[Bug 130111] Re: slrn does not support utf8

2007-09-29 Thread Andrew.46
Hi,

Can I add my support to this bug report? The cvs version, especially if
it is patched with Thomas Wiegner's patches, as suggested in Troy's
page, is _very_ stable.

Thomas has gone so far as to produce a couple of packages of slrn for
Ubuntu:

http://www.foory.de/thw/slrn/packages/

and I am sure would be flattered to see his work included in a future
Ubuntu distro, although of course I cannot speak for him :-)

[Bug 140837] oggenc does not deal with 'large' files

2007-09-18 Thread Andrew.46
Public bug reported:

Hi,

I am running Ubuntu Dapper with the repository version of the vorbis-
tools package. The problem is with oggenc:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ oggenc -version
OggEnc v1.0.2

oggenc will not encode a file bigger than 2 gigs. Error message is:
"File is too big". A patch exists to get around this and has apparently
been implemented in Debian. Details from xiph:

 https://trac.xiph.org/browser/trunk/vorbis-tools
 https://trac.xiph.org/ticket/879

Can this patch be implemented in the repository for Dapper and others?

every aspect of burning works flawlessly. Myself, I will now remain

[Bug 114931] Unable to copy Audio CD using Nautilus

2007-05-15 Thread Andrew.46
Public bug reported:

Hi,

I am unable to utilise the 'Copy Disc... function for audio cds using
Places ... Computer ... (Right Click on CD Icon) ... Copy Disc ... This
in Ubuntu Feisty Fawn.

The software goes through a long period (about 30 minutes) of creating
a file image and then an equally long period of copying to a blank CD.
This CD is unplayable on all CD players and the disc itself will not
mount on my Ubuntu system.

 I am using:

# LG GSA-H42N DVD Burner
# Nautilus 2.18.1
# Kernel 2.6.20-15-generic

Exactly the same results using GnomeBaker 0.6.0. The drive plays DVDs
flawlessly, writes and rewrites to CDRW discs without fail. I have
captured some of the output from GnomeBaker while copying a Data Disc,
many minutes of the following:

This continues for some time retrying different sectors.
