[Bug 1164016] Re: restore type-ahead find
I think a nice way to solve this stupid debate could be to ensure that the files are displayed in a STABLE order - type ahead results from the current folder first - folders first - files in the current folder before the other files... what is MOST annoying with the current feature is that when you have spotted the file you're interested it (or quite often the folder) then - there can be other files/folder with the same name and it is impossible to know which is relevant (it should be the closest, the one from the current folder, etc). It seems to be the last used, so it changes - when you have spotted the folder or file you want to open, the time you move your pointer to open it the files are reorganized as further search has been done, and you open some other random file. How is it possible to maintain such a feature the way it currently works? The search should be done in some order, and this order should not change so rapidly while you're trying to find your result... -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1164016 Title: restore type-ahead find To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/nautilus/+bug/1164016/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

well. [Bug 1307127] Re: Too slow to use, and feature missing!
Hi I have been experiencing this bug for months, and occasionally. My impression is that it is a "simple" issue: I believe that upon start gthumb must be trying to read or write files it has not access to (for instance the sd card of your camera you had inserted one week before and from which you had displayed images...) and does not give up. Maybe the bug is even shared with nautilus (or whatever is used in gnome for accessing files) (gthumb should not look at these files, and nautilus shoud say they are not accessible). When I launch gthumb *.png I would like gthumb to access ONLY the files I have requested (and possibly---but it would be even preferable not to---, some LOCAL files .thumbnails/png in the same directory...) Right now it is right to say that this fantastic program is unusable and could be deleted... sorry -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1307127 Title: Too slow to use, and feature missing! [Bug 674138] Re: Global appmenu breaks sloppy focus
Dave Gilbert : Indy is right the f-f-m option sets the focus on the last window visited, and as long as windows are open the desktop never gets the focus. It means it is impossible to rename an icon on the desktop (or you need to open a file browser and open the desktop inside the file browser) What I don't understand is that this issue would be solved with a very simple variant of focus-follows-mouse : the behavior should be that 1- it focuses on the window under the mouse 2- it keeps the focus on the last window visited when the pointer is on the desktop 3- it focuses on the desktop if you click on it (and in general on any window you click in, since sometimes some bug makes the focus loose the mouse). In particular, when you click on an icon in the background (or create it) the focus should be automatically transferred to that icon... currently the behavior is 1+2, but not 3. to sum up, focus follow mouse should be a layer onto click to focus, not an exclusive option. this would still allow to visit the upper bar (for the crazy users who disable the menu-in-window feature). The truth is that f-f-m is so handy that once one has tried it, it is hard to change back. [Bug 765438] Re: On startup, the backlight is off on laptop
News: my guess is that it is still the randomness of the bug working around, or there has been a substantial improvements in recent kernels/Xorg drivers, but the bug is still present however in the past month EVERY time it occurred I could log in, suspend the computer (not hibernate), wake it up, and after usually one or two trials it went up again (in November/December it was not working even after 10 or 15 rounds). So now, as far as my Dell E4310 laptop is concerned, it is less critical. I must make clear that I use NONE of the other tricks (I tried them all in the past months, and none was solving the issue in a stable way, now they are all removed and I'm running the standard 12.04 (amd64) up to date distribution). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/765438 Title: On startup, the backlight is off on laptop To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/linux/+bug/765438/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 765438] Re: On startup, the backlight is off on laptop
@ kangaroo : thanks I'll try to get as much info as possible next time I am affected by the bug (hopefully, never). As I told it is very random, the laptop may work for 2 weeks and then suddenly it gets dark and none of the standard tricks wakes it up (or never the same...) [Bug 765438] Re: On startup, the backlight is off on laptop
Hi everybody - Dell Latitude E4310 / core i5 with intel graphics chip - LTS 12.04 This bug is VERY SEVERE on my laptop (actually, it is almost broken now and I will soon need a new one). reason: - when it happens there is no backlight and nothing to do, or almost - it is quite random. I tried almost all of the above tricks (stepci, boot options --- but not yet i915 invert brighness nor the change in rc.local, this is for next time it happens) and it does not work, or sometimes it does but it is never very clear what works, since the bug always reappears later - I tried (using an external display) : to echo 1 in intel_backlight/brightness, to manually (after login) increase the brightness, etc, etc. No effect. - I tried also Kamal's kernels (it was almost worst: sometimes instead of going blank in power save mode it was turning white) - Sometimes (not always) suspending / resuming works - sometimes rebooting works. last time I rebooted using a different kernel and it worked, I will check whether this is reproducible (next time I get the bug... but I'd rather never have it again) - sometimes unplugging the battery and waiting for some time works (not anymore, though, it seems) - sometimes nothing works and my laptop is unusable for some time - when the backlight is broken, it stays broken even when I boot Windows - Dell came and changed my display 1 month ago. Now Windows is broken (thanks a lot Dell, I was not using it very often but now I have no choice :-), but the bug happened again after a few weeks (bizarre, uh?) I'm afraid I will have to forget about using Linux if all recent kernels of all major distributions can break your computer. (But what? get a mac?? --- in fact I'll certainly get a different graphics system next time...) sorry for being so pessimistic, this is the first time I encounter such a severe problem under linux...
