[Bug 1841746] Re: Installing ubntustudio-audio causes hang at login

2019-08-29 Thread Antonio Roberts
ubuntustudio-performance-tweaks wasn't installed until Erich suggested
it earlier, so I don't think it was causing the problem.

I don't have jack or cadence auto starting.

I'm not sure where else to look. I think the hardest thing in diagnosing
this is that sometimes it happens and sometimes it doesn't.

I have another computer which I'll eventually reisntall everything and
hopefully I'll know more

[Bug 1841746] Re: Installing ubntustudio-audio causes hang at login

2019-08-29 Thread Antonio Roberts
I'd addressed Len's answer with this:

"I had installed jack just before I installed these packages and so the
option to fix real time permissions wasn't available." To add to this, I
have run ubuntustudio-controls and I can't see an option to "FIX Real
Time Permissions", possibly because I had installed Jack before I had
installed ubuntustudio-audio.

I don't want the lowlatency kernel and so won't be installing it, and it
seems like it's optional.

[Bug 1841746] Re: Installing ubntustudio-audio causes hang at login

2019-08-29 Thread Antonio Roberts
ubuntustudio-controls and ubuntustudio-audio-core were automatically
installed when I installed ubuntustudio-audio. I had to manually install
ubuntustudio-audio-performance-tweaks.

I had installed jack just before I installed these packages and so the
option to fix real time permissions wasn't available.

Before reinstalling my system I had previously tried using the GUI
installer but encountered this bug

[Bug 1841746] [NEW] Installing ubntustudio-audio causes hang at login

2019-08-28 Thread Antonio Roberts
Public bug reported:

I'm on a fresh installation of Ubuntu 19.04 and have installed the
ubuntustudio-audio package. Occasionally when I restart it will hang
when I log in to my user account. The mouse can still be moved etc but
the desktop never loads.

I'm using a Dell XPS 13.

[Bug 1839182] [NEW] Error: divie by zero

2019-08-06 Thread Antonio Roberts
Public bug reported:

I'm trying to install some ubuntustudio packages (low latency kernel and
settings) on top of Ubuntu 19.04 using the ubuntustudio-installer gui.
At a certain point the installer crashes and reports the following
error:

divide by zero
divide by zero
while executing
"expr 300 + (200 / $nofl * $pct)"
(procedure "pctunpk" line 2)
invoked from within
"pctunpk $unpk $getcnt"

(command bound to event)

I've tried installing the same packages on a Dell XPS 13 and Dell XPS 15
and they both hang at different moments during the installer, but both
whilst trying to unpack packages.

On one computer it stalled when installing the lowlatency kernel and on
the other it stalled when installing a different package but
unfortunately I didn't note down which one.

After about 20 minutes of waiting for the progress bar to complete (it
didn't) I restarted my computer and everything appears to be working but
I have no way to be sure.

[Bug 1737394] [NEW] Systemd causing shutdown to hang

2017-12-10 Thread Antonio Roberts
Public bug reported:

I have Ubuntu 17.10 installed on a Dell XPS 15 using Nvidia proprietary
drivers (384.98). The shutdown process can sometimes take up to ten
minutes and sometimes not shutdown at all.

I used a camera to record the shutdown messages as I couldn't see
anything in the logs:

wlp2s0: deauthenticating from 90:21:06:96:c2:d1 by local choice (Reason:
3=DEAUTH_LEAVING)
systemd-shutdow: 33 output lines suppressed due to ratelimiting
systemd-shutdown[1]: Sending SIGTERM to remaining processes...
systemd-journald[332]: Received SIGTERM from PID 1 (systemd-shutdow).
systemd-shutdown[1]: Sending SIGKILL to remaining processes...
systemd-shutdown[1]: Unmounting file systems.

systemd-shutdown[1]: Remounting '/' read-only with options

EXT4-fs (nvme0n1p1): remounted. Opts: errors=remount-ro,data=ordered
systemd-shutdown[1]: All filesystems unmounted.
systemd-shutdown[1]: Deactivating swaps.
systemd-shutdown[1]: All swaps deactivated.
systemd-shutdown[1]: Detaching loop devices.

kvm: exiting hardware virtualization
psmouse serio1: Failed to disable mouse on isa0060/serio1
reboot: Restarting system
reboot: machine restart
ACPI MEMORY or I/O RESET_REG.

The major hang appears after wlp2s0 deauthenticates, and the first
systemd-shutdow message takes up to 10 minutes to appear.

Is this a systemd problem? What could be causing the 33 output lines to
be suppressed?

[Bug 1725697] [NEW] Logging in after suspend/resume gives two login screens

2017-10-21 Thread Antonio Roberts
Public bug reported:

I'm using Ubuntu 17.10 (upgraded from 17.04) on a Dell XPS 13. When I
try to log in after suspend/resume I input my password which then takes
me to another login screen. On that login screen I'm unable to type
anything, resulting in me having to do a hard reset in order to log back
in.

** Description changed:

I have several external displays that I connect to my laptop (800x600,
1660x1050). When I put an application, such as Totem, Pure Data or Eye
of Gnome, full screen (via F11) in the external display, the display on
the primary screen (my laptop) starts to act weird and not refresh
  properly. Examples:

http://i.stack.imgur.com/hJVwQ.png - Running Pure Data full screen.
There is only one window open but the ghost of one is displayed

http://i.stack.imgur.com/mls7M.png - Attempting to resize a window. The
orange resize animati is left behind

Is there a way to fix this?

[Bug 1257120] [NEW] Screen not refreshing when second display has full-screen application running

2013-12-02 Thread Antonio Roberts
Public bug reported:

I have a Dell XPS 13 developer edition running Ubuntu 13.10 with Intel®
Ivybridge Mobile graphics and Intel® Core™ i7-3537U CPU @ 2.00GHz × 4
processors.

[Bug 1045790] Re: Rendering error on OCAL website

2012-09-08 Thread Antonio Roberts
@Jakub

I've updated the description with the original SVG and steps to
reproduce the errors. Additionally, I've linked to a bug report for rsvg
where the developers admit that this display error is due to a bug in
the renderer and not the SVG. Therefore, this SVG is not bad.

Doing outset and inset doesn't fix the SVG as it modifies the path.
For example,. the Ireland map is 2718 nodes. After doing an outset and
inset the number of nodes is 273 nodes. It results in a smaller file
size but it is no longer the same as the original.

[Bug 993187] Re: ubuntu 12.04 64bit completely freezes frequently

2012-05-14 Thread Antonio Roberts
When my system freezes the mouse and everything else is unresponsive - I
can't even get to a console. Also any music or video that is completely
playing stops as well i.e. a complete freeze

I'm running Ubuntu 12.04 on a Dell Studio 1555 laptop with ATI Radeon
graphics (flgrx driver)

[Bug 915377] [NEW] Inconsistency in wording used to describe password error

2012-01-12 Thread Antonio Roberts
Public bug reported:

In a new installation of Ubuntu there are incosistencies in the text
used to describe when a user enters their password incorrectly. The ones
I have found are:

Logging in from boot:
Invalid password, please try again

Unlocking your computer:
Incorrect password

Authenticating an operation e.g. installing an application:
Your authentication attempt was unsuccessful. Please try again.

Putting in a password in the terminal:
Sorry, try again.

Entering a password on tty1-6
Login incorrect

It could be argued that the text used for logging in should be different
to the other tasks, but even then there are inconsistencies

[Bug 783490] [NEW] Gnome panel shows on an external projector/monitor in Ubuntu 11.04

2011-05-16 Thread Antonio Roberts
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

In Ubuntu 10.10 (and possibly previous versions), when I connected my
laptop to an external source (monitor/projector) and set it not to clone
my desktop the display on the external source would not show the
(gnome-)panel (just a full-screen desktop with no icons).

Since upgrading to Ubuntu 11.04 (using Unity) when I now connect the
external source has the panel on there. Is there any way to revert to
the previous behaviour in 11.04?

[Bug 658275] [NEW] Window button placement in gnome-appearance-properties do not reflect placement in themes

2010-10-11 Thread Antonio Roberts
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-control-center

Launch gnome-appearance-properties

Some of the themes that can be selected have window buttons placed on
the left instead of the right. Although through third-party programs or

default the button placement in the theme preview should reflect that of
its actual placement

[Bug 570133] Re: Video playback timing is wrong when recording with --on-the-fly-encoding switch

2010-08-13 Thread Antonio Roberts
I don't think it's entirely true that on-the-fly encoding capability is
completely down to the computer. On my computer (specs below) I can do
on the fly encoding at 30fps using ffmpeg with this command: ffmpeg -r
30 -s 1366x768 -f x11grab -i :0.0 -vcodec msmpeg4v2 -qscale 2
filename.avi

Yet when I try even 24fps using recordmydesktop the resulting video
fails to play properly.

I think this confirms that the problem exists in recordmydesktop

[Bug 509111] Re: Recording cause system to slow down with ATI Graphics

2010-07-07 Thread Antonio Roberts
@RockDJ any audio problems with gtk-recordmydesktop are usually blamed
on the sound card or options in other programs. Sound is working here.

I'm having problems with full screen recording thouhg. Getting artifacts
like these http://www.flickr.com/photos/hellocatfood/4769723866/ Also on
the fly recording is dropping lots of frames. I suspect the latter could
be problems with the software

Otherwise, glad this is finally fixed!

[Bug 509111] Re: Recording cause system to slow down with ATI Graphics

2010-07-06 Thread Antonio Roberts
I'm using the latest graphics driver as downloaded from the ati website
(10.6) (http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/Pages/index.aspx) and
compiz 0.8.6 from their ppa (https://launchpad.net/~compiz/+archive/ppa)
and, when using gtk-recordmydesktop it now works perfectly.

I'm not sure if it is compiz or the newer graphics driver that is
causing it to work. Can anyone else verify this?

[Bug 576547] [NEW] Battery draining quickly in 10.04

2010-05-06 Thread Antonio Roberts
Public bug reported:

I upgraded from 9.10 to 10.04 and I've noticed that the battery life has
gone down. This laptop was bought in October and Power Manager indicates
that I have 86% capacity.

When I get warnings that I have only 45 minutes remaining this is
usually false and the battery can be drained in as little as 15 minutes.

My computer is a Dell Studio 1555: Pentium Dual Core
T4300(2.1GHz,800MHz,1MB), 4096MB 800MHz DDR2 Dual Channel, 512 MB ATI
Mobility RADEON HD 4570

[Bug 575432] [NEW] Simple Scan doesn't scan at the right size

2010-05-04 Thread Antonio Roberts
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: simple-scan

I'm using simple scan 1.0.2 with an Hp Officejet 4252 combined scanner
and printer on Ubuntu 10.04 and whenever I scan an a4 document the
resultant image always comes out too long, leaving me with a lot of
whitespace that I need to crop out, which doesn't always produce
accurate results.

I've attached a screenshot of the output

[Bug 482985] Re: openshot won't open in Ubuntu 9.10

2010-04-01 Thread Antonio Roberts
I see what happened now. I didn't have libmlt++.so.2 so linked it to
libmlt++.so.0.5.0 instead using:

ln -s /usr/lib/libmlt++.so.0.5.0 /usr/lib/libmlt++.so.2

Now it works!

[Bug 512838] Re: Rendering of SVG's with linked images causes nautilus to hang

2010-02-01 Thread Antonio Roberts
I tried downloading nautilus-dbg and got the following error:

Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created
or been moved out of Incoming.
The following information may help to resolve the situation:

The following packages have unmet dependencies.
  nautilus-dbg: Depends: nautilus (= 1:2.28.1-0ubuntu3) but 1:2.28.1-0ubuntu3.1
is to be installed
E: Broken packages

I'm using an up-to-date version of ubuntu 9.10, so can't really see why
this is happening

[Bug 513154] [NEW] libnotify options

2010-01-27 Thread Antonio Roberts
Public bug reported:

Libnotify is a great notifications system but I think it could do with a
few options to customise it, for example, a gui for changing the
position of the notifications, the style of them, the colour of the
background etc

For an example of what I mean look at Snarl for Windows (also open
source)

[Bug 512838] [NEW] Rendering of SVG's with linked images causes nautilus to hang

2010-01-26 Thread Antonio Roberts
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

I created an svg in Inkscape that contains a linked jpg image. If you
move the linked image, as Inkscape/SVG creates an absolute link to the
image, when nautilus tries to render it it can't find the image and then
freezes.

To reproduce:
Create an svg in Inkscape, add in but don't embed an image. Save to somewhere.
Move the linked image
Go back to the folder containing the svg and watch as it tries to create a
thumbnail preview

2010-01-18 Thread Antonio Roberts
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gtk-recordmydesktop

When I start recording my computer starts slowing down quite a lot. I've
set the frame rate to 10 and even 5 frames per second, don't have Compiz
effects enabled and still it's going sloppy. My computer stats are Dell

[Bug 247136] Re: Text tool creates invisible 'artifacts'

2009-12-18 Thread Antonio Roberts
I just tested this on Ubuntu 9.10 with Inkscapea 0.47 and it still
happens. I couldn't get artifacts to appear on the desktop background
but the thumbnail still had them.

Interestingly in 0.47 you can select all of the empty text boxes with
ctrl + A but not using the mouse cursor.

Should this be something that Vacuum Defs should take care of?
