[Bug 1645325] [NEW] audacious tracklist staying focused

2016-11-28 Thread Aristotelis Mikropoulos
Public bug reported:

When using audacious, tracklist window should stay focused / on top z-index
when you drag and drop a track into it. This is, for example, default behavior
on Winamp on Windows, but doesn't happen on Audacious on Ubuntu. I think it is
extremely handy to happen. Current behavior is, when you drag the track from a
Nautilus window, it gets focused and it overlaps and hides the tracklist
window, making it necessary to manually put them in non-overlapping places.
I reported this to audacious developers and they pointed out that although it
is a good idea, there is nothing they can do, and I should report it as a file
manager bug/feature request.
Thank you.

[Bug 952108] Re: [Precise] Nautilus: memory leak

2013-04-02 Thread Aristotelis
@ sandiglioanno-gianni

  Desktop Background Image changing (Webilder)

Are those test runs you provided with this app turned off? I know you
already said that there seems to be no relation between the wallpaper
changer and RAM usage, but a number of users _have_ reported similar
issues with Variety, which is also a background switcher. Again, just
playing devil's advocate here (I am experiencing the issue without any
wallpaper changer running in the background.)

[Bug 171579] Re: Make inkscape remember dialogs window status

2013-03-26 Thread Aristotelis
I have installed the latest inkscape-trunk build from the stable PPA and
this option does not appear to be included, yet. Can someone please tell
me what version I have to install to benefit from this fix? I am running

2013-03-26 Thread Aristotelis
Nevermind that, I found it. For future reference: You have to install
the latest build from the Inkscape Trunk PPA
(https://launchpad.net/~inkscape.dev/+archive/trunk). Be careful though,
as these are bleeding edge releases.

I hope this fix will arrive in the stable builds soon.

[Bug 716147] Re: cursor disappears on one screen of dual monitor setup

2013-03-19 Thread Aristotelis
I have a similar problem on Ubuntu 12.04.2 LTS. Only that in my case the
cursor doesn't disappear on one monitor but takes upa corrupted form
(sometimes a line, other times a duplicated cursor). I would supply a
screenshot but strangely enough the cursor appears perfectly fine in
screengrabs and screencasts.

I am using AMD's proprietary Catalyst 13.1 and the 3.8 kernel but I've
had this problem since Ubuntu 11.04.

[Bug 1125052] Re: Laptop cooling fan stops suddenly after a period of use.

2013-03-17 Thread Aristotelis
I have had this problem for a long while both on Ubuntu 12.04 LTS and
Ubuntu 11.04. Notebook fans would occasionally stop working despite high
workload and only continue working after the CPU heated up to 95°C. No
issues of that nature under Windows.

I recently installed the latest kernel (3.8.2-030802-generic) on my
system and haven't had any instances of the fans stopping since.
However, as I've only been running this kernel for two weeks I cannot
provide any conclusive evidence as to whether the bug is gone or not.
Back in the day it would sometimes take a few weeks for the issue to
reappear.

[Bug 869793] Re: Nautilus is very slow when opening folders with many files

2013-03-16 Thread Aristotelis
This bugs persists with Ubuntu 12.04.2 LTS. I cannot fathom how an issue
as drastic as this in a system component as crucial as the file manager
after seven years has yet to be resolved. How can PCmanFM and Dolphin be
this lightning fast compared to Nautilus?

I am not one to complain about bugs in FLOSS software as I know the
volunteer time and effort that goes into developing it. This, however,
is a core part of the Ubuntu and GNOME experience we are talking about
and fixing the slow down should be one of the top priorities both for
Canonical and the GNOME foundation.

[Bug 460733] Re: Transmission BitTorrent doesn't honor speed limitation preferences

2013-02-27 Thread Aristotelis
I don't get why this bug is marked as invalid. At this moment
transmission neither honours the regular nor alternative speed limits.
And it's not about fine-tuning, either. As you can see in the attached
screencast the actual download rate is so far off from the configured
setting that this has to be a bug. The depicted rates also correspond
with the total rates reported by the System Monitor.

Unless somebody can show definitively that transmission is not honoring
its own speed limits then I think this should probably be marked
invalid.

I hope this screencast will be proof enough to remove the 'invalid' flag

[Bug 1064329] Re: High CPU load (above 50%) on Xorg process when browsing low graphic intensive sites

2013-01-19 Thread Aristotelis
I can confirm this bug but I'll have to disagree with Karl. This problem
seems to be unrelated to the DE in use as I am experiencing it on
Openbox, LXDE and Unity.

I can easily reproduce this bug by accessing any type of HTML5 website.
Here are some examples:

http://fff.cmiscm.com/#!/main
http://sidigital.co/
http://www.whitehouse.gov/issues/preventing-gun-violence

As for CPU load when moving around windows, the CPU usage does seem to
be higher than necessary (~15% on LXDE at the specs outlined below). Is
this how it's supposed to be?

Some additional information:

- reproducible both with FF and Chrome
- mean CPU load on HTML5 website ~30% with Core i5 @ 2.66GHz
- graphics: AMD HD5650 Mobility Radeon on FGLRX (Catalyst 12.6)

[Bug 1060580] [NEW] Dragging and Dropping files and folders lags due to launcher icon fade out

2012-10-02 Thread Aristotelis
Public bug reported:

What I expected to happen:

Being able to seamlessly drag and drop a file or folder to any
destination.

What really happened (See attached screencast):

Initial lag when starting to drag the icon. Lag lasts as long as it
takes the launcher to fade out all icons except the nautilus home icon.
As soon as this fade out process is complete, dragging the icon works
flawlessly again.

Other notes:

This worked fine initially.

[Bug 969860] Re: fglrx uses 100% CPU when screen turns off (spinning in glXWaitVideoSyncSGI or glXSwapBuffers)

2012-09-10 Thread Aristotelis
Just a small heads-up:

Activating Force full screen redraw (buffer swap) on repaint caused a
significant increase in CPU load with regular usage on my system. That's
why I had to go back to deactivating the automatic screen switch
entirely.

In the course of doing so I discovered another bug in that the automatic
screen lock does not work as long as the display isn't turned off. Has
anyone else experienced something similar here?

[Bug 607560] Re: jbd2 writing block every 5 - 10 seconds, preventing disk spin-down and making noise

2012-08-22 Thread Aristotelis
I used Eugenel's debugging method nr. 2 (find) and correlated it to the
iotop outputs. The attached file includes listings of the recorded hard
drive activity both while idling and while having Google Chrome open.

I think I may have identified the culprit in my case. What's common to
all entries is hard drive writing activity in /dev/ati/card0. if you
look at the last intervall (15:25:30-15:26:40) you'll find that it's the
only recorded change. Thus we can assume that most of the jbd2 I/O
activity in the previous intervalls can be attributed to the same
location.

Two questions:

1.) Any idea why I can't access /home/ari/.gvfs despite being in a
root shell?

2.) Does anyone know what /dev/ati/card0 is used for? Can't open the
file with gedit.

Thank you in advance.

[Bug 1001405] [NEW] on startup-ed pidgin's window does not restore

2012-05-18 Thread Aristotelis Mikropoulos
Public bug reported:

I have set Pidgin to start on login (startup app). Its icon shows on the
launcher and it has a white arrow left of it (so it states a window of
Pidgin is opened somewhere, probably minimized). But when I click on
that Pidgin icon, nothing happens, Pidgin's main window does not
restore anywhere. I cannot even find it with Super+W. This gets fixed if
I quite Pidgin (right click - Quit, on the icon) and rerun it. I have
also set Skype as a startup app, but it doesn't have any problems (maybe
because it has a status icon on the horizontal upper panel?).

[Bug 1001058] [NEW] can't find apps after minimizing them

2012-05-17 Thread Aristotelis Mikropoulos
Public bug reported:

After I unlocked some applications from the launcher (Google Chrome,
LibreOffice Writer, LibreOffice Impress, etc), the icons of some of them
e.g Google Chrome and LibreOffice Writer don't show on the launcher,
even after I run them (e.g from dash). So, when I minimize them I can't
find them to restore their windows because their icons aren't on the
launcher, so I lose them. I can only get back to them with Super+W. That
happened with most of the applications I unlocked, but not all (e.g not
with LibreOffice Impress).

Now it happened with audacious, without it ever even being locked on the
launcher, let alone me ever unlocking it from there. It seems it doesn't
have to do with the applications being unlocked from the launcher.

[Bug 1000427] [NEW] auto-hide lancher does not work

2012-05-16 Thread Aristotelis Mikropoulos
Public bug reported:

Hello. I am on a fresh install. System Settings - Appearance -
Behavior - Autohide Launcher: ON does not work. It does not hide the
launcher (it never does no matter where the cursor is). It just makes
the launcher's background transparent. My maximized windows do not show
at their full, the launcher is always above them, hiding their left
part. I tried this http://askubuntu.com/questions/9865/how-can-i
-configure-unitys-launcher-auto-hide-behavior/43708#43708 which did not
work (did not make the launcher hide or auto-hide) but at least it made
my maximized windows not to go under the laucher but to limit themselves
until the launcher (so I can see them).

[Bug 672732] [NEW] [Realtek ALC663] No sound from external speakers

2010-11-08 Thread Aristotelis Mikropoulos
Public bug reported:

I can play sound from the pc (laptop: ASUS G50VT) speaker but not from
the external speakers. They work in Vista, though. I have checked and
tried everything but nothing works. Until I tried to tweak with HDA
Analyzer, and found by luck, that by going to Node[0x0c] AUD_MIX and
unticking Mute from Val[0] and Val[1] make my external speakers work.
But I can't make that option permanent (every time I reboot I need to
run HDA Analyzer again). Please, tell me a way to make this setting
permanent, or try to fix that bug (as I found the solution, all you have
to do is make it permanent and release it ;). Thank you very much, in
advance :-)

[Bug 653274] Re: Plymouth doesn't show Kubuntu or Ubuntu logo with Nvidia proprietary driver

2010-10-13 Thread Aristotelis Mikropoulos
If somebody adds vga=xxx to the kernel command, what happens when a new kernel
is released as an update and they install it?
The old kernel command is not used any more and they have to add vga=xxx again,
on and on.
Also, how come this has gotten Fix Released? I mean, it still affects me.
I have a 1920x1080 resolution, what video mode would be good for me? (I can't
find my resolution to the tables)
Thanks.

[Bug 626296] [NEW] Keyboard layout indicator cannot be removed

2010-08-29 Thread Aristotelis Mikropoulos
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

Hello.
I have added a second keyboard layout to my system, and since then, a keyboard
layout indicator has appeared on the system tray. Since I want to be able to
change between keyboard layouts only with a key combination I have set
(Alt+Shift), I don't want the current layout being shown on the system tray.
However, there is no way to remove that indicator from the tray (left click
just switches between layouts and right click does not provide an option for
removing that indicator from the panel). So, it would be really nice if an
option for removing that indicator, would be added.
Thanks a lot, in advance.

ProblemType: Bug

[Bug 599755] [NEW] Copying files to usb pauses after each one being copied.

2010-06-29 Thread Aristotelis
Public bug reported:

I am using ubuntu 10.04 x86_64. I'm having a certain problem while copying from
my internal HDD (ext4) to usb stick (fat32). At first I get a fair speed
(15-20MB/s) for the first half of the file and then it slows down but not
significantly or in an annoying way...
The actual problem and my question is that when file transfer window informs me
that 100% has been transfered and 0 seconds remain, the window remains there
for about 30 seconds, depending on the size of the file, and it won't let me
safely remove my usb stick when i try to. I also realized that when copying
multiple files, copying is paused after each file being copied. For example, if
I try to copy three files 100 MB each, so 300MB max, I get the first 100MB
transfered normally (as the window informs me) then a pause like nothing is
going on, after approximately 20-30 seconds it continues normally to second
file, pause after that and finally i get the third copied and pause again,
before the nautilus window with the transfer bar goes away.
System is fully functional during this time but it seems to me that a task is
being done to the background, like OS is verifying copied data, or something
like that, because the time of this pause varies according to filesize.
I've been using same usb flash drives with several OS, including previous
ubuntu releases, on same machine, so I think it's not hardware problem. I also
believe that it's not the effect from caching files before actually copy them
to unit, as I don't encounter same behavior to other external storage devices.

[Bug 363872] [NEW] Unable to activate driver

2009-04-19 Thread Aristotelis Mikropoulos
Public bug reported:

Hello.

$ lspci | grep nVidia
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation NV31M [GeForce FX Go5650]
(rev a1)

I just upgraded to Jaunty RC. At my first boot, I was forced to use
low-graphics mode. I, then, rebooted in recovery mode and selected the
xfix option. That worked, as after a reboot, my normal screen resolution was
in use. But I was suddenly using the nv, open source driver, instead of the
proprietary one (I was using at Intrepid). I tried to open System -
Administration - Hardware Drivers (jockey-gtk) and saw 2 options (the same I
was seeing when I was using Intrepid): nVidia 173 driver [Recommended], and
nVidia 96 driver. (Note that after the upgrade to Intrepid I had to switch to
the 173 driver, from the nvidia-glx-new, due to some serious Xorg changes). I
clicked on the first choice and hit Activate. I, then, saw a small untitled
window saying Downloading and Installing the driver and a gauge, that finally
reached 100%. Then, that small untitled window was closed. But, the driver was
still not activated.
I also noticed that if I follow the procedure I described above, and then
reboot, I get the low-graphics mode, again (I don't get that if I reboot
without following the above procedure). That makes me think that the driver
gets partially installed, for some reason.
Looking forward to a soon answer/fix, ;-)
and thanks, in advance.

and a desktop, both running Ubuntu Hardy Heron 8.04 LTS.

Personally, I think this bug is very important, because, people who want
to make the change from other (proprietary) operating systems, to Linux
(and especially Ubuntu), are really discouraged, when they hit on bugs
like this. I know this, from facts I have seen with my eyes, and it was
very sad.

[Bug 282681] [NEW] Create New Wireless Network problem

2008-10-13 Thread Aristotelis Mikropoulos
Public bug reported:

When I click on the Network Manager tray icon, and I choose Create New
Wireless Network, I am asked for a Network Name, and a Wireless
Security. I give them, and then I press Connect. But nothing happens,
apart from the Network Manager icon turned into a wireless quality
displayer, with 0 full bars (all bars empty). When I put the cursor on
that icon, I get the following message: Wireless network connection to
'(unknown)' (0%). It seems it doesn't work.

I run Ubuntu 8.04 on a DELL Latitude D800, with an Intel Wireless Pro
wireless card, driven by the ipw2200 driver, with no problems.

[Bug 249283] Re: Workspace Applet should display workspaces without affecting them

2008-07-17 Thread Aristotelis Grammatikakis
I agree but maybe there should be an option to display the workspaces in
rows or columns without affecting them in any other way. As it is, I
can't use it, because I would miss the cube of compiz, Expo displays
them vertically (thus not taking advantage of my wide-screen) and to
have the spaces in columns instead of rows doesn't make sense in a
vertical panel configuration.

[Bug 249279] Re: Window List doesn't display labels vertically

2008-07-17 Thread Aristotelis Grammatikakis
I apologize for having made a serious mistake in the description:
it is not the Window Selector (the one that presents them in a menu) but the
Window List applet which creates buttons along the panel.

** Summary changed:

- Window Selector doesn't display labels vertically
+ Window List doesn't display labels vertically

** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: gnome-applets

- The Window Selector Applet keeps the display of the labels of windows
+ The Window List Applet keeps the display of the labels of windows
horizontally even on a vertical panel, making it useless in that
configuration as names are not visible save for the first character or
  two.

[Bug 249426] [NEW] Rearrangement of Custom Menu categories

2008-07-17 Thread Aristotelis Grammatikakis
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

The categories presented by the Custom Menu applet Applications,
Places, System should have an option to automatically arrange
themselves differently or allow so in the Menu Editor. For example, when
in vertical orientation, it makes more sense to place Applications and
the icon at the top, Places under it and System under that following the
flow of the horizontal placement (more common to less commonly used).

[Bug 249282] [NEW] Window Selector should display icons

2008-07-16 Thread Aristotelis Grammatikakis
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-applets

The Window Selector applet should display the icons of
applications/windows either in combination with text labels or alone.
Such an option would be very useful in small panels or vertical panels
where space is limited and would also help visually identify the
applications/windows quicker.

[Bug 249283] [NEW] Workspace Applet should display workspaces without affecting them

2008-07-16 Thread Aristotelis Grammatikakis
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-applets

The Workspace Applet should only display workspaces, not create, delete
and sort them, unless maybe there is an option to do so. When changing
the orientation of a panel that contains the applet from horizontal to
vertical, the user will want to display the workspaces vertically,
without sorting them vertically in virtual space. For example, Compiz
would render them vertically in Expo and the Cube wouldn't work, where
the user would like to keep them horizontally and only display them
vertically.

[Bug 243484] [NEW] windows preferences don

2008-06-27 Thread Aristotelis Mikropoulos
Public bug reported:

I use Ubuntu 8.04, GMOME 2.22.2, Compiz-Fusion and Emerald.
System-Preferences-Windows do not apply at all, while using Compiz-
Fusion and Emerald, because they only affect Metacity and GTK-Window-
Decorator. So, I have to use emerald-theme-manager to adjust my windows
preferences (e.g. behavior on title bar double-click). I just would like
to say, that System-Preferences-Windows should detect the window
decorator that is being used, and configure the current decorator's
options, or at least, just launch the corresponding option-setter
program (e.g. emerald-theme-manager if Emerald is detected, or the
default that is being launched now, if GTK-Window-Decorator is
detected).

this is, obviously, not a solution.
