[Bug 1899971] [NEW] Problematic dependency on python3-apport causes all Python invocations to install apport hook
Public bug reported: This would be no big deal if python3-apport just sat there until it was used (which it would never be on my system, since I removed apport). However, whenever python3-apport is installed, it unconditionally sets itself as sys.excepthook in Python3. The decision to have xserver-xorg depend on python3-apport basically means that every user who runs an X server will get this exception hook in Python whether they want it or not. And having python3-apport as the Python exception hook is not exactly harmless; it can still cause issues. My relatively minor but annoying issue is that I see deprecation warnings every time I get an error traceback, because python3-apport uses some deprecated code. I can imagine worse issues should there be an error in python3-apport; it could cause massive headaches and confusion for users who have no idea what's causing it. I'm not sure there is any point to have this dependency in the xserver- xorg package; it doesn't seem like those scripts will ever be run unless apport is installed and detects a crash, and apport already depends on python3-apport. I made a nice equivs package to allow myself to uninstall it, and as far as I can tell X and its applications still run fine. This is for Fossa, package version 1:7.7+19ubuntu. ** Affects: xorg (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1899971 Title: Problematic dependency on python3-apport causes all Python invocations to install apport hook To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1899971/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1513692] Re: package man-db 2.7.4-1 failed to install/upgrade: triggers looping, abandoned
I think that giving more of a warning about these Upgrade problems would be a great kindness to average users. [Bug 1574349] Re: gitlab install fails on missing gem file
This is a pretty serious bug: it's in an LTS release, breaks a completely clean install, and the workarounds involve going around the package manager and negating the distribution. [Bug 1207023] [NEW] USB headset cannot be selected in settings on 1st plugin
Public bug reported: I am running Ubuntu Quantal (12.10). I have Logitech USB headset. The firts time I plugged it into a USB port, the System Settings/Sound/Output panel immediately showed the device and allowed it to be selected. However selecting it did not change the flow of audio, which was still emitted from the internal speakers. Also, closing the settings panel and opening a new one showed both devices but had the internal speakers selected. So it seems to me there are two problems: a) The settings panel is failing to set the default sink in PulseAudio, but not detecting the failure or not handling it, e.g. with a visible error message. b) PulseAudio does not automatically switch to the USB headset when it's plugged in. Following advice on the Internet, I found the following workaround: 1. remove or move aside ~/.pulse/probably two bugs: 2. leave the USB headset plugged in 3. log out and log in again After this, I can plug the headset in and successfully manually select it for output and input using the settings panel. It's still not automatically becoming the default. So this works around problem a) not problem b). The headset appears in lsusb as Bus 001 Device 021: ID 046d:0a01 Logitech, Inc. For example gnb@enki 582 ls -l /usr/lib/libX11*.so* lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 15 2009-07-12 03:53 /usr/lib/libX11.so - libX11.so.6.2.0 lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 15 2009-06-18 18:45 /usr/lib/libX11.so.6 - libX11.so.6.2.0 -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 971436 2009-02-03 03:41 /usr/lib/libX11.so.6.2.0 gnb@enki 583 ls -l /usr/lib/libbfd*.so* -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 948232 2009-02-11 03:13 /usr/lib/libbfd-2.19.1.so lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 16 2010-01-21 16:18 /usr/lib/libbfd.so - libbfd-2.19.1.so The upshot is that everything works fine just after the ggcov package has been built, but after the next time binutils is upgraded the ggcov executable can no longer start. Upgrading to ggcov 0.8.4 will appear to fix the problem, but only because the package has been freshly compiled against the current binutils. Actually the problem will re-appear when binutils is upgraded again. The true solution is to link against libbfd in a way which survives binutils being upgraded. To achieve that I would recommend upgrading to the ggcov 0.8.4 release plus these two commits: http://ggcov.git.sourceforge.net/git/gitweb.cgi?p=ggcov/ggcov;a=commitdiff;h=aa80fb7f94d40225e18932674d911b126bea1234 http://ggcov.git.sourceforge.net/git/gitweb.cgi?p=ggcov/ggcov;a=commitdiff;h=d44654466b8b2967e9f659d01545cde757d53dd4 and John will want this commit too http://ggcov.git.sourceforge.net/git/gitweb.cgi?p=ggcov/ggcov;a=commitdiff;h=a3d89646b37deae1d30e74ff38a285e762fce831 and you will want a deb packaging equivalent of http://ggcov.git.sourceforge.net/git/gitweb.cgi?p=ggcov/ggcov;a=commitdiff;h=1b10d86e1d5e7646383b7a17adb99b7198e53942 -- Greg. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/713811 Title: ggcov can't open exisiting shared libs To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ggcov/+bug/713811/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 518533] Re: Unable to mount location Not Authorized after nautilus upgrade
I can confirm this issues still exists in a clean install of 12.04 LTS using FreeNX. I did find that if I hook a keyboard and a mouse up and log in locally, I can access the usb thumb drive normally. However, over FreeNX it says something like Access Denied - Unauthorized. I can also access the drive over FreeNX after I have accessed it locally. Since I mainly use the system remotely, I did find a way to access the thumb drive over FreeNX without it being too much of a hassel. I made a DiskUtil.sh script where I do not have to type in my sudo password every time: #!/bin/sh echo yourSudoPassword | sudo -S palimpsest When in the graphical Disk Utility, I can mount the usb drive and then click on the link on the right hand side that says Mount Point: Mounted at /media/Transcend and it will open up and I can copy to and from the drive normally. Note that even mounted, I cannot access the files through Nautilus at the mount point. I have to click the link in palimpsest or it will not work. But hey, at least I can access my thumb drive remotely. And for the record, I know that script file is not the best way to do that, but I tried several ways to do it correctly and they didn't work for me...so yeah, there is a script file somewhere on a system that has my password in it. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/518533 Title: Unable to mount location Not Authorized after nautilus upgrade To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/518533/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

i also have the asus u56e-* i really like ubu 10.04 because cube effect worked... but it doesnt work very well the disable mouse button doesnt work or any special volume keys... etc etc... my final solution was to try out 12.04 which works really really well with gnome 3.4 (looks great) right out of the box except the intel wireless problem which i posted a solution to here on this bug report somewhere... the solution disables some sort of bluetooth thats built into the card... you still cant use the cube effect correctly on this version btw :( when you pass a window to another view with the quick keys it reverts back to the original screen and then it flashes on every desktop every time you rotate the cube. all in all try out 12.04 instead it should be more stable for you -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/876147 Title: Intel Corporation Centrino Wireless-N + WiMAX 6150 (rev 67) not working after upgrade to 11.10 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/876147/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

source: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=136749 Here's what I found. Apparently there is some inerference from an attribute within the driver having to do with Bluetooth. I did this. # modprobe -r iwlwifi # modprobe -v iwlwifi bt_coex_active=0 Try to connect. I just installed xserver-xorg-video-ati and now it looks like it's loading the driver successfully, regardless of radeon.modeset - I tried both 0 and 1 and they are looking good. [Bug 655099] [NEW] White Screen instead of desktop after 10.10 update (ATI Mobility Radeon 7500 card)
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-ati I have upgraded an IBM T41 laptop from UNR 10.04 to 10.10 beta. Upgrade ran fine. After rebooting, I see the splash screen, and eventually the screen goes white. It does this over a few transitions, most likely in the time between X starting and having the desktop loading (I have auto logon enabled). Once it is all white, I can Ctrl-Alt-F1 to the terminal. Since then I have disabled auto login but same result. I have also removed Unity (I use UNR and the T41 doesn't have a 3d graphics card), and have the same white screen. Only after removing xserver-xorg-video-radeon, can I get to the Ubuntu Desktop (in 16 colour glory). Since then, the forums have helped me and it's been resolved by changing radeon.modeset from 1 to 0 in the boot - works fine now. Note: T41 has an ATI Radeon Mobility 7500 graphics card. [Bug 580224] Re: pybridge doesn't start
Stefan is correct: the string comparison assumes the first character of twisted.copyright.version to be in range '2'..'9'. (In my defence, Twisted was at version 2.x when I wrote that code.) A quick fix is to comment out the following lines of /usr/games/pybridge (lines 48-50): # import twisted.copyright # if twisted.copyright.version TWISTED_REQUIRED: #raise SystemExit, Error: Twisted Core %s+ required % TWISTED_REQUIRED For the PyBridge packages in Debian/Ubuntu, the version checking performed by /usr/games/pybridge (lines 27- 67) is unnecessary, since the dependency data is embedded into the .deb files. -- pybridge doesn't start https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/580224 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 527838] [NEW] Usb device nodes in /dev/bus/usb are not created
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: udev I'm running an igepv2 board with the omap3530 soc. On boot udev does not create the /dev/bus/usb nodes and so lsusb doesn't show any devices etc. This is a regression from jaunty and I've traced the problem to /lib/udev/rules.d/50-udev-default.rules In jaunty the line reads: SUBSYSTEM==usb, ENV{DEVTYPE}==usb_device, NAME=bus/usb/$env{BUSNUM}/$env{DEVNUM}, MODE=0664 In karmic it is: SUBSYSTEM==usb, ENV{DEVTYPE}==usb_device, MODE=0664 Replacing the karmic line with the jaunty line fixes the problem for me in karmic. [Bug 475704] Re: Karmic desktop livecd constant kernel ACPI exception messages: AE_LIMIT, Returned by Handler for [SystemIO] 20090521 evregion-424
I do not have the skill set to offer any valuable advice here, but wanted to throw in my two cents. I discovered that I was having this problem quite accidentally. I was trying the locate the reason that my computer freezes 2 minutes into a recording and just started looking at logs. I do not know that my problem is related to this issue, but my point is that I would never have known this was occurring if I had not stumbled upon the logs. Could be a bigger problem than is realized and users just do not know it is happening. I am running Mythbuntu 9.10 all updates. I did not start having the freezing problem until a couple weeks ago, January 29 to be specific. Just FYI. -- Karmic desktop livecd constant kernel ACPI exception messages: AE_LIMIT, Returned by Handler for [SystemIO] 20090521 evregion-424 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/475704 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 223146] [NEW] Internet time updates sporadically
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-applets When the clock is set to Internet time, it appears to update every second. However, since a centibeat != a second, the clock appears to lurch forward, then stop, occasionally missing a centibeat. Instead, it should update about every 0.864 seconds. [Bug 59266] Re: Cannot connect to http://localhost:631/admin
This bug also affects CUPS in the Feisty beta (2007-03-25). From a default CUPS configuration, changing the server settings through the port 631 web interface, results in loss of connectivity to the server. A manual /etc/init.d/cupsys restart is required to restore access. The error log suggests that the cupsys user does not have the required privileges to bind to port 631: E [25/Mar/2007:16:30:29 +0100] Unable to bind socket for address 127.0.0.1:631 - Permission denied. E [25/Mar/2007:16:31:19 +0100] cupsdStartBrowsing: Unable to bind broadcast socket - Permission denied. This bug has been reported before (as #37986) and seems to be present in Dapper and Edgy. -- Cannot connect to http://localhost:631/admin https://launchpad.net/bugs/59266 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 69707] OpenOffice hangs forever after choosing Save As Docbook
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: openoffice.org In OpenOffice, open a document, or begin a new one. You can make the test as simple as you wish. I just typed the word test on the page. Then, click File Save As, and for File Type choose Docbook. OpenOffice begins saving. In fact, the status bar at the bottom goes all the way to 100%. But it never finishes saving. The program hangs. If you click the X at the top right of the window, the system tells you that openoffice isn't responding and that you must force quit. When you do, there is not even a partial file in the place that you were trying to save. I have tried this with the same results on a Dell Dimension T600, Toshiba Satellite, and Dell Latitude D600. My friend tried it on the same hardware (Latitude D600) but with SuSE Linux 10, and it worked: ?xml version=1.0 encoding=UTF-8? !DOCTYPE article PUBLIC -//OASIS//DTD DocBook XML V4.1.2//EN http://www.oasis-open.org/docbook/xml/4.1.2/docbookx.dtd; article lang=en-USsect1titletest/title/sect1/article ** Affects: openoffice.org (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed -- OpenOffice hangs forever after choosing Save As Docbook https://launchpad.net/bugs/69707 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 52396] Re: Could not get/set settings from/on resource.
I have this same error (Could not get/set settings from/on resource). System sounds play, but CDs and sample video and audio files do not. I use Dapper and have gstreamer-0.10-alsa. Maybe I need to change the setting for the sound card. The Device Manager says I have an Aureal Semiconductor Vortex 2, but I really have a Yamaha 724. But I do not know how to change the driver in Ubuntu. Reassigning to alsa-lib and ubuntu-audio team, maybe they have an idea on it. Well? It's been more than two months. I fixed it! On the command line, enter: gstreamer-properties A window for the Multimedia Systems Selector pops up. For Default Output Plugin, change it to ESD - Enlightenment Sound Daemon.
