[Bug 116784] No frequency scaling on Asus F3Jp (Core2Duo)

2007-05-25 Thread Ben Hodgetts \(Enverex\)
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: linux-image-2.6.22-4-generic

This bug looks like the same issue as the HP laptops but after seeing
DMesG I think it's a different issue. This is the output from DMesG when
I try and load the acpi-cpufreq module:

As well as the generic device not found message in the terminal.
Oddly enough after a suspend it let me load the module but this didn't unlock
any modes in the Gnome CPU frequency scaling monitor applet.

[Bug 96754] Re: Atheros 5212 NIC Fails to Connect in Feisty

2007-05-08 Thread Ben Hodgetts \(Enverex\)
I'm having the same problem with an Atheros PCMCIA 5212 A/B/G card too.
If you tell network manager to connect to that network then it just
seems to continue scanning anyway and doesn't connect (it's only a few
meters from the AP). If you disable roaming and set it to use that AP
manually (despite its distance from the AP only shows up as 46%
strength) it stops scanning but still doesn't connect. Although if you
check iwconfig Rx invalid nwid appears to be climbing at just over one
per second.

I can confirm this. When I install Feisty on my laptop with a Mobility
Radeon 9000 and first boot, X fails to start and if you look at the log
file it says no screens were found. If you check the /etc/X11/xorg.conf
file you'll find it's completely blank (!!). Deleting this file (and
letting X figure everything out itself) or using reconfigure works, but
this is odd and would likely scare people away if they couldn't get a
GUI after installing the OS. I've used the same CD to install to my
desktop (with an nVidia card) and it was fine then and I've reinstalled
on that same laptop with the same issue just to confirm it wasn't a

[Bug 110403] Very poor 2D performance with radeon XOrg driver

2007-04-26 Thread Ben Hodgetts \(Enverex\)
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-ati

I have an ATi Radeon Mobility 9000 (M9) in my laptop and the 2D
performance (not using Beryl or composite at all) is quite awful, the
general window redraw is rather slow and unresponsive. Oddly enough 3D
performance is fine, it's just 2D that runs badly. If there's any
particular output that anyone wants then I can provide it, but I can't
think of anything. I've had XOrg people look at the X logs but there's
nothing there that says anything is wrong or shows why there should be
any form of slowdown.

2007-04-26 Thread Ben Hodgetts \(Enverex\)
Got a little carried away with the cats there didn't you :P

Ok, this is a fresh install of Ubuntu 7.04 on the laptop. I've been
through Gentoo and Debian on it too so that should give you some idea of
how long I've been fighting it (and how many different configurations
I've tried in that time too). Oh, another example of its slowness is the
Ubuntu login screen. You actually get to watch it draw the tiles for the
background and it takes a second or so to actually render the entire
backdrop (the brown thing).

Anyway, here are the files.
If you spot anything obvious I wouldn't get your hopes up as I said I've tried
lots of different things already and this is a bog standard new install now.

Thanks for looking and hope something is spotted.

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: hpoj

Upstream development for HP multifunction devices has now been overtake

you proably want to use hplip instead.

Should read:

Upstream development for HP multifunction devices has now been overtaken
by the hplip package, if you are running a USB or jetdirect interface
you probably want to use hplip instead.

(overtaken and probably).

** Affects: hpoj (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: Unconfirmed

[Bug 74736] Re: wine setup.exe for epson printer driver fails

2007-01-13 Thread Ben Hodgetts \(Enverex\)
Wine doesn't support device drivers or programs that expect to interface
directly to device drivers and at this stage it isn't planned to ever
support it.

Sorry.
(can someone mark this bug as invalid please)

[Bug 38527] Re: wrong path for desktop files

2007-01-13 Thread Ben Hodgetts \(Enverex\)
This is fixed upstream now as of... 0.9.27 I believe it was. Links are
now created in ~/.local/apps/Wine.

[Bug 71193] Re: Gwget crash

2007-01-12 Thread Ben Hodgetts \(Enverex\)
I can confirm this, I was trying to use it earlier and it's just...
buggy as hell. It crashes almost at random (if you try and do anything)
and one time actually took down Gnome-Panel with it. This isn't specific
to Ubuntu though, it acted the same on Gentoo, I think it may just be a
really badly coded app. I recommend using KGet in the meantime, works
great (seems to have a few more features too which is nice).
