When I type gio open /full/path/to/file.pdf in terminal, then the PDF is opened properly with evice. I could not install upstream kernel 3.15 properly. I got a lot of errors, the kernel was installed, but when I booted with upstream kernel it didn't recognize wi-fi adapter. This podcast feed http://feeds.feedburner.com/americhka/oBlg works fine, while the two feeds I have indicated above don't work. With 12.10 and fgrlx I could play Steam Trine 2 , with 13.04 and xorg radeon driver I can't, the game freezes randomly. That was because I was using fglrx which doesn't support my Radeon HD 4650. @Omer, I run unity which has a horizontal panel on the top of the screen. The panel has an area for notifications. @Omer I have downloaded Skype 4.0 from skype web site, not installed it from repository because repository contains old version of Skype. I assume that by default Skype is using systray for displaying messages. I don't have any unity-skype integration packages installed. I don't understand which menu you are talking about.
