Hi Chao,

Your report is useless here, hence I've removed your attachment, sorry.

* If you know the package name of your "input method" program, please
execute somthing like "ubuntu-bug your_package_name_here" from the terminal.
* If you, unfortunately, don't know that, please execute "ubuntu-bug -w"
from the terminal and follow the instruction (close the intro message
box and click on the window of your "input method" program etc.)

[Bug 994921] Re: 'ubuntu-bug /var/crash/app.crash' (and even more so, 'apport-cli -c /var/crash/app.crash') should still allow manual bug filing in stable releases

2014-04-14 Thread Bob Bib
Martin Pitt:
 We really want crashes to go to http://errors.ubuntu.com only for stable
 releases.
 Launchpad isn't suitable for these
 ...
 privacy problems (stable users are much less prone to be able to decide
 whether a report might contain sensitive data)
 ...
 we eventually want to move to errors.u.c even for the development release

IMHO, errors.u.c should be a little more open for collaboration,
as it may give some useful info (e. g., crash backtraces to catch some rare
bugs)
for upstream projects developers,
but at the same time it should somehow protect itself from sensitive data leak.

 scalability (Launchpad doesn't deal well with hundreds of duplicates,
 and a bug tracker isn't meant to).
 ...
 As you found out, there is still a way to do this manually
 upon request of a developer, but we don't want to make this any easier.

More to say, AFAIK,
a vast majority of packages stored in Ubuntu repos are NOT really maintained by
dedicated persons,
but are actually just auto-synced from Debian repositories
(sometimes with minimal changes to make them buildable on Ubuntu),
so, unfortunately, there's NO much help from reporting problems with such
packages here on Launchpad.

So it looks like the advanced Ubuntu users should better look at Debian
 actual upstream projects for non-essential Ubuntu packages bug
reporting.

Re: [Bug 812394] Re: Disable hibernate option by default

2013-09-18 Thread Bob Bib
IMHO, it's much more productive to open a new bug like Please enable hibernate
in Ubuntu, Hibernate doesn't work in Ubuntu etc.
than posting complaints to this one;

the current bug report is a suggestion to DISABLE the hibernation in
Ubuntu;

if you make a YES vote (Does this bug affect you?) for this bug, you
support DISABLING hibernation in Ubuntu,
and not taking it back to function ;)

[Bug 405120] Re: resume from suspend doesn't work (powers off instead) for Acer Aspire 3810T

2013-05-22 Thread Bob Bib
Paul Olaru,

the current bug has nothing to do with yours:
it relates to the buggy emulated keyboard controller, not HDDs,
and there were no kernel panics, just power-offs (or reboots, as someone
reported).

next time, please read the bug description carefully before replying :)

Re: [Bug 927501] Re: synaptic crashed with SIGSEGV in RGWindow::windowCloseCallback()

2013-05-03 Thread Bob Bib
LAZA:
 @Bob:

 Thanks for the suggestion, but since Precise(?) Apport does not work as
 expected and does not report crash files!

Oh, it looks like your Apport problem is already known as #994921, and you can
make a vote for it;
try to apply the workaround, then reboot and try to report your Synaptic crash,
this time it should work.

 So i had to do it by hand...

 New Bug:
 https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/synaptic/+bug/1175890

Manual attaching of unprocessed crash files is not a good approach though:
Launchpad's Apport retracing service doesn't seem to be able to process them
directly.

 Synaptics crashed after uninstalling old kernel packages.

 Crash report is attached.

 ** Attachment added: _usr_sbin_synaptic.0.crash

 https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/synaptic/+bug/927501/+attachment/3662734/+files/_usr_sbin_synaptic.0.crash

Generally, you should report a new bug and let the Apport system to process the
crashdump,
instead of attaching a HUGE crashdump to the old bug reports.

I suggest you to report a new bug, post the new bug number here, and
then remove this crashfile.

Good news: the i8042 reset fix
(commit 1729ad1f4f9e167ade84ca8b5269695c42351160)
has been cherry-picked into Linux 3.2.35:
http://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/v3.x/ChangeLog-3.2.35

If I'm correct, Linux 3.2.35 is now in precise-updates:
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux
Thus, it seems that a Precise task with a Fix Released status
can be finally added to the current :)

[Bug 990761] Re: acroread 9.5.1 is not installable on Ubuntu Precise amd64 system

2013-02-11 Thread Bob Bib
** Description changed:

+
+ Adobe Reader is missing from Ubuntu Raring  Quantal;
+ meanwhile, Adobe Reader 9.5.3 has been released upstream,
+ see bug #1106447.
+
+
  The acroread_9.5.1-1precise1_i386.deb package cannot be installed on a
  x86_64 Ubuntu 12.04 where i386 is enabled as a foreign architecture,
  because it depends on acroread-common and acroread-
  common_9.5.1-1precise1_all.deb does not satisfy this dependency.

  This can be reproduced using aptitude, synaptic, apt-get, and dkpg. For
example:
  $ apt-get install acroread-common
  ...
  $ apt-get install acroread:i386
-  Reading package lists... Done
- Building dependency tree
+  Reading package lists... Done
+ Building dependency tree

  Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
  requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
  distribution that some required packages have not yet been created
  or been moved out of Incoming.
  The following information may help to resolve the situation:

  The following packages have unmet dependencies:
- acroread:i386 : Depends: acroread-common:i386 but it is not installable
+  acroread:i386 : Depends: acroread-common:i386 but it is not installable

2013-02-11 Thread Bob Bib
There's no acroread 9.4.7 in Ubuntu Precise (12.04).

Ubuntu Precise has acroread 9.5.1, but it's packaged in a wrong way, see
bug #990761.

Meanwhile, Adobe Reader 9.5.3 has been released upstream, but it has not
made its way to Ubuntu yet, see bug #1106447.

[Bug 948667] Re: gnome-panel crashed with SIGSEGV in gtk_widget_pop_verify_invariants()

2013-01-27 Thread Bob Bib
Alistair Buxton:
 My bug was just marked duplicate of this one, but doesn't match with the
 description posted on the upstream bug.
 So, is my bug really a duplicate?

If I understand it correctly, automatic duplicate bug marking is done based not
on the bug description, but on the crash backtrace results (i. e., the program
internals leading to crash).
The same code bug may be triggered by different conditions.

Your bug #1076830 doesn't contain a coredump retrace, and therefore is not very
informative.
If you can reproduce it -- report it properly, with a coredump attached.
(If apport doesn't allow you to report the crash to Launchpad, please look at
the bug 994921).

  ftp://ftp.adobe.com/pub/adobe/reader/unix/9.x/9.5.3/enu/
  (though I don't recommend users to install the upstream DEB package directly,
as its packaging quality is quite poor).

  It's also a good idea to include Adobe Reader Asian font pack into the Ubuntu
package:
- ftp://ftp.adobe.com/pub/adobe/reader/unix/9.x/9.5.3/enu/
+ ftp://ftp.adobe.com/pub/adobe/reader/unix/9.x/9.1/misc/

  As for now, the freshest Adobe Reader version found in Ubuntu repositories is
an outdated acroread 9.5.1-1precise1, and it's not only outdated, but also has
some serious packaging errors:
  1) it has some incorrect dependencies, which make it non-installable on amd64
systems due to multiarch problems (see bug #990761);
  2) the source package contains not only Adobe Reader 9.5.1 English version
inside, but also obsolete 9.4.2 German, French and Japanese versions (needs
some research, can result in some security problems etc.).

  For Ubuntu Quantal Raring, Adobe Reader seems to be completely missing
  from Ubuntu repositories, i. e. partner repository.

[Bug 1078103] Re: Still no acroread for 64 bit precise

2013-01-26 Thread Bob Bib
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 990761 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/990761

Carl,
1) your 'sources.list' file is really a little bit messy, so consider cleaning
it manually or with 'software-properties-gtk' tool (uncheck / delete all the
garbage, then check the needed repositories);
2) well, acroread installation problem is known as bug #990761, so this is a
duplicate.
