Same problem here as Brendan_P, as part of Gnome 3 the calendar appears
off the top bar when you access the calendar, when it downloads from
Google I have events in multiple time zones and hence the crash.

Yes, yesterday I was having exactly the same problem with Libre Office
Calc, RC6 and the 3.2 kernel -- off the top of my head release 17, in
the end I booted the previously installed 3.2 kernel and had no issues.

[Bug 818830] Re: [Sandy Bridge] serious power regression from kernel 3.0.0-6 to 3.0.0-7 (rc6 disabled)

2012-01-12 Thread Brad Heap
I am on Kernel 3.2 in 11.10... using the 12.04 Kernel Package.

My grub config is set to:
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT=quiet splash pcie_aspm=force i915.i915_enable_rc6=1

This has restored a lot of battery life and dramatically dropped the
temp the cpu is running at. But it still half that of Windows 7 on the
same machine.

It is odd that I also have a Dell 15R (N5110) Ubuntu 11.10 x64 and
comment 492 worked for me, but the above poster with the same hardware
it doesn't. Is it possible that one of us is missing additional
synaptics packages or something?

Cancel that previous message I didn't go into the tools folder

I believe this problem is the same as:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/760142

In the comments of that bug report there is some links to some kernel
patches that are suggested to work.

I have yet to try the patches as I don't want to risk having no mouse on
my primary laptop... yet...

In the meantime I have turned down the mouse sensitivity etc... it means
the mouse is slow to move around the screen... but errant clicks are
less common.

[Bug 730225] Re: grub-install trashes the ntfs partition that starts at sector 63 if one or more sectors in the embedding area is occupied by Adobe FlexNet

2011-04-02 Thread Brad Heap
Yesterday I upgraded my 10.10 x64 to the beta of 11.04 x64 using update-
manager.

Upon reboot got error in grub about missing xputs and dropped into grub-
recovery.

I have followed the instructions here about reinstalling grub:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1581099

Upon reinstalling grub the error about flexnet appears and when you
reboot you are dumped back into grub-recovery.

I cannot boot into Ubuntu as when I followed the instructions in the
above thread typing 'insmod linux' resulted in an error about not being
able to find memset.

To get back into windows I ended up purging grub via chroot through a
live cd, and then installing lilo and recovering my windows MBR (see
page two of the thread linked).

My next option would be to trash the sector that flexnet was on but as I
use Adobe CS3 products under windows I am reluctant to do this.
