2009-10-23 Thread Brady Merriweather
Had the same problem. Even after first running gkksudo nvidia-settings.
it couldn't write to xorg.conf . Installed the binary install file form
nvidias website which compiled and worked around the issue.

OK, the envy thing gets it back to where it was in 8.10, one big desktop across
two screens. I don't know that it will survive a reboot because I can't save
the configuration. Of course, Ubuntu can run for months without rebooting.
There is a button to save it, but it won't let you unless you are root, and to
become root you have to call the thing from a terminal with the gksudo
(whatever it is called) command and I don't know what it is called. NVIDIA X
Server Settings is the title bar, but I doubt that is really it. If I try
that I just get this: p...@pete-desktop:~$ gksudo NVIDIA X Server Settings
p...@pete-desktop:~$ It asks for the password in between, but the NVIDIA X
Server Settings doesn't open. The xorg.conf does not reflect what is really
running: Section Screen IdentifierDefault Screen DefaultDepth
24 EndSection Section Module Loadglx Disabledri2
EndSection Section Device IdentifierDefault Device Driver
nvidia EndSection It should have all kinds of stuff in it about the dual
screens, twinview, xinerama and all that.

2009-04-09 Thread Brady Merriweather
work around:

1.installed the mini.iso for Ubuntu 8.04
2. when prompted to install packages, I skipped it and installed the minimal
install.
3. got to a prompt, logged in and installed the ubuntu desktop

sudo apt-get install ubuntu-desktop

4. edited the /etc/yaboot.conf and removed the following line:

append=quite splash

5. started desktop session

startx

proceeded with distribution upgrades

Problem seems to be with the slash screen, giving a scence to the end
user it's not working

Description of what I was doing..

Installed openmovieeditor attempted to run the application. noticed
the dependency of jackd wasn't installed (which it needs) installed
that.. Ran jackd as: jackd -v -d alsa -d hw then attempted to run it.
Let me know any other dump logs you need where they dump to. I can
grep it and post as a response. thanks!

Same:

This backtrace appears to be of no use.
This is probably because your packages are built in a way which prevents
creation of proper backtraces, or the stack frame was seriously corrupted in
the crash.

the problem are missing song lists on the 32bit under the games/data

[Bug 157300] Alsa Sound with AC97 Chipset Tends to have problems with multiple apps accessing sound.

2007-10-25 Thread Brady Merriweather
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: hal-info

For instance I will be using a website which has embedded flash on it.
listening to a stream. Then launch something like Warsaw. While playing
the game, the audio cuts out, and the stream I was listening to also
stops. With in minutes of possibly a new game starts, the audio in the
game begins, and the audio plays, but again fails back off.

I can then exit the game and attempt viewing another website stream, the
audio doesn't seem to be playing, though it indicates it is. Restarting
my session, resolves it until I again try to run multiple sources of
output.
