Do you mean via the 'Subscribe to bug mail' option? I can only subscribe
myself, or a team I administer - so I guess if I wanted to subscribe

[Bug 1334676] Re: Applications have a dead open dbus connection (since image #96)

2014-06-27 Thread Brendan Donegan
So the bisect concludes:

1.) Install image #95
2.) Update qtubuntu-sensors to 0.1+14.10.20140624-0ubuntu1
3.) Run the autopilot test. You will see the following errors happen quickly:

10:48:20.537 ERROR proxies:410 - Introspect error on
:1.140:/com/canonical/Autopilot/Introspection: dbus.exceptions.DBusException:
org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NoReply: Message did not receive a reply (timeout by

for :1.138: DBusException(Could not get PID of name ':1.138': no such name,)
10:48:21.565 INFO _launcher:368 - waiting for process to exit.

4.) Update ubuntu-application-api2-touch to 2.1.0+14.10.20140624.4-0ubuntu1
5.) Run the test again. The errors no longer appear, but the hang is now
present.

[Bug 1330107] [NEW] SystemUpdate Autopilot tests need to be reworked

2014-06-14 Thread Brendan Donegan
Public bug reported:

First a quick note, this is more a reminder for myself then something
that urgently needs to be fixed. It looks to me like the SystemUpdate
tests in particular need to be reworked. Some points:

* The test for searching state assumes that it will have to wait for the
Searching state to be reached, but it's possible the searching state is already
completed when it waits.
* All the tests assume no updates are present, there are no tests for when
updates are present. We should fake an updates backend to test this.

[Bug 1321211] Re: No contacts shown in dialer or messaging apps

I think a simple unit test could be created for this - although a high

[Bug 1322250] [NEW] No available apps in the App scope

2014-05-22 Thread Brendan Donegan
Public bug reported:

There are no Available Apps in the Click scope. This is the case after
connecting to the network, logging in to Ubuntu One and even rebooting
the device. Browsing the web works so the connection is definitely
there. The Ubuntu One account is also in the list of Accounts in System
Settings.

[Bug 1302615] Re: [FFe] [UIFe] Checkbox GUI needs to be able to send test results to Launchpad

2014-04-08 Thread Brendan Donegan
** Description changed:

We propose to add a new feature to the Checkbox UI, which will allow the
user to send their test results to the Launchpad Hardware Database
(https://launchpad.net/+hwdb/+submit). The UI will be changed to ask for
the users Launchpad email address at the end of testing. After
submitting they will see a response indicating whether submission was
succesful or if some error occured.

N.B. This reinstates a feature that was in Checkbox in previous
releases, but was removed during Trusty development due to re-
implementation of the Checkbox core and UI.

This feature is considered beneficial as it will mean users will
continue being able to send test reports to Launchpad, which may at a
later date be used for currently undefined purposes (a past use has been
to drive the Ubuntu Friendly database).

The visible UI changes (warranting a UIFe) are in checkbox-gui, but in
order for this feature to work fully, the following syncs will need to
  be done from Debian:

  - plainbox 0.5.3
  - checkbox-ng 0.3
  - plainbox-provider-checkbox 0.4

Testing that has been performed as of now:

  - Package builds
  - Package installs on Trusty
  - Submit to Launchpad feature works, and no noticable regressions occur

[Bug 1302646] Re: Lenovo IdeaPad Yoga 13 - pm-suspend-hybrid causes system to crash

2014-04-05 Thread Brendan Donegan
File this one down to a case of impatience. It turns out it does work
(eventually) on both kernels I ran. It seems to take a bit longer on the
current one, but it does eventually enter hybrid sleep. What's
confusing, and I might file a seperate bug for, is that the screen
initially blanks, then comes back - but the user is not able to interact
with the system - it appears frozen. This lasts long enough that more
impatient types like myself may be tempted to hard power off their
system.

Hi Colin,

Close it now, this laptop is deceased - unless you think someone else
with the same model is going to come along and provide the info.

Thanks,

[Bug 1302646] Re: Lenovo IdeaPad Yoga 13 - s3-hybrid test causes system to crash

2014-04-04 Thread Brendan Donegan
** Project changed: fwts = linux (Ubuntu)

** Description changed:

  When I try running:

- sudo fwts s3 --s3-hybrid on my Ideapad Yoga, it simply freezes. The
- whole system is unresponsive. This is a pretty new 'Intel(R) Core(TM)
- i7-3537U CPU @ 2.00GHz' so I would have thought it was supported, but
- even if not, it should not crash, rather the test should be skipped.
+ sudo pm-suspend-hybrid, it simply freezes. The whole system is
+ unresponsive. This is a pretty new 'Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-3537U CPU @
+ 2.00GHz' so I would have thought it was supported, but even if not, it
+ should not crash.
+
+ It seems it is supported though. /sys/power/disk contains sleep as a
+ supported state.

[Bug 1276209] [NEW] Add users to the Canonical - Staff group if they are a member of the ~canonical team in Launchpad

2014-02-04 Thread Brendan Donegan
Private bug reported:

It's not a huge deal, but it's always confusing when Canonical staff
can't access hardware and certificate pages in C3 even though 'Canonical
Staff' are supposed to have read access to everything. It usually takes
a little while to figure out that:

1.) 404 errors are due to permissions
2.) The permission required is Canonical - staff
3.) This permission needs to be granted manually
4.) Where and how this is done (/admin - Access Groups)

Let's just put a user in the Canonical - staff group when the register
as long as they are a member of the Launchpad group ~canonical.

[Bug 1256998] [NEW] cursor is not visible (sometimes) after suspend/resume on Lenovo Ideapad Yoga 13

2013-12-02 Thread Brendan Donegan
Public bug reported:

Often, after suspending and resuming this system, I that the cursor is
not visible. If I move the trackpad then I can see the cursor having an
effect on the UI (hover effects trigger for example), but at no point is
it visible. This can only be cured by logging out and back in from
lightdm. I have never seen this behaviour on other hardware.

Maybe - I noticed that just after booting scaling_max_freq was 2534000,
but it dropped down soon after. I can provide the same logs as before
again and you can check them to make sure that a.) I enabled ignore_ppc
properly and b.) it had the expected effect. Sound ok?

[Bug 1250401] Re: [Dell Inspiron 5737] brightness could not be controlled by the indicator applet System settings - Brightness and Lock but sysfs works

2013-11-12 Thread Brendan Donegan
The problem here is that the gsd-backlight-helper code used by the
brightness applet prefers to always use 'acpi_video0' or whatever
backlight device has type 'firmware'. This means that it will update
/sys/class/backlight/acpi_video0/brightness, which does not work. Our
test code will update the intel_backlight device, which does work but is
meaningless because the OS doesn't use that same interface. Bottom line
is that this is probably a firmware issue (but could possibly be a
kernel issue). That's my $0.02
