[Bug 1551385] Re: No sound on ASUS Xonar DGX Soundcard (16.04)
Grateful thanks to Valentin Crone for the workaround. I ran alsamixer in the terminal, selected Analog Output by right-arrowing and then Multichannel by up-arrowing, and now my sound works. I doubt whether this would ever occur to the non-technical user! It deserves to be more widely known. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1551385 Title: No sound on ASUS Xonar DGX Soundcard (16.04) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/pulseaudio/+bug/1551385/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1551385] Re: No sound on ASUS Xonar DGX Soundcard (16.04)
Fresh install of 16.04 on hardware that ran 14.04 faultlessly. 14.04 has sound, 16.04 not. The problem seems not to be at the driver level: the same drivers (snd_hda_intel, snd_oxygen) are allocated to the same hardware devices as seen whith lshw -C sound. In the sound settings, the output devices are Digital Output (S/PDIF), Analogue Output and Headphones. [Bug 886580] [NEW] lightdm freeze
Public bug reported: Until yesterday I was using 11.04. Unity worked fine with GDM. Then I installed 11.10. After boot, lightdm puts up the greeter OK. If I select Ubuntu-2D (Unity 2D) from the login box, then after a 30-second wait I have a usable Unity desktop. However, the network indicator falsely states that networking is disabled. If I log out, lightdm freezes (I get the text- mode screen with checking battery state etc). When I examine the process list, it seems that there are two lightdm processes, one of which is preventing the other from restarting. If I kill them, lightdm restarts. If I try to log in using Unity-3D, however, there is a long wait before the desktop appears. I get no launcher bar on the left - not even when I press the windows key. Nor does the rightmost logout widget appear on the top bar. I have a similar problem on logout - no greeter appears and I'm left in an unresponsive text mode screen. If I kill all the lightdm processes and start gdm, everything is fine. I can start Unity-3D and indeed any other desktop with no problems. And it's much, much quicker. [Bug 322277] Re: evince stuck Loading... some pages in a .ps containing images
I came upon this problem when using efax to view received faxes. Like the original reporter of this bug, I was hamstrung by the confidential nature of the data, but I've managed to reproduce the problem using some scans that are definitely neither confidential nor subject to copyright. The problem is reliably triggered by the output of the efix program (a companion to efax), which converts .pnm and others to .ps. The attached file contains four .pbm files which, when combined into a .ps with the command $ efix -ops *.pbm cruel.ps produce the test data. The sample .ps file attached renders perfectly correctly with gv. A suggested temporary workaround for this problem is to install and use gv (ghostview) instead of evince. ** Attachment added: Image files demonstrating the bug http://launchpadlibrarian.net/42657532/evince-bug.tar.gz -- evince stuck Loading... some pages in a .ps containing images https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/322277 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 427625] Re: privoxy not start at boot - karmic
Still a problem here (up to date with kernel 2.6.31-14) on one of two installations. I wonder if it's anything to do with peculiarities of the hardware, and in particular the problem occurs on a pretty fast box (boots in under half a minute). Workaround was to rename /etc/rc2.d/S20privoxy to /etc/rc2.d/S30privoxy - not happy with this, but it fixes the problem. [Bug 189389] Re: gpilot-applet crashed with SIGSEGV in g_main_context_dispatch()
Adding to #5 and replying to #6: this occurred when removing a duplicate gpilot-applet icon from the GNOME panel. Specifically, multiple such icons were appearing. On removing one of them, the selected icon disappeared immediately; after about a second, the remainder disappeared at the time of the crash. This was provoked by a mis-configuration, brought about as follows: under Jaunty, the gpilot-applet does not display on the GNOME panel. Hence, I added the applet, saw no feedback, and thinking (wrongly) that I had done something wrong, I repeated the operation. I then installed Karmic on top of the Jaunty install. When booted, GNOME under Karmic displayed all the duplicate applet icons. Debug traces were supposedly uploaded using Apport. However, when I had removed all gpilot-applet elements from the GNOME panel, the crashes desisted and I cannot now reproduce the problem. All related Apport data in /var/crash now deleted by the system. [Bug 328127] Re: gnome-keyring-daemon returns Agent admitted failure to sign using the key.
I upgraded to Jaunty last night, and now I have this problem (2.6.28-11-generic #42-Ubuntu SMP Fri Apr 17 01:58:03 UTC 2009 x86_64 GNU/Linux). Unlike the previous commenter, I was getting no request for my password to unlock the keyring. Having read through the comments on bug #328445, I found that a temporary workaround - which will work for all processes, is to ascertain the value of SSH_AUTH_SOCK. On my system it has the following value: $ echo $SSH_AUTH_SOCK /tmp/keyring-nWDqUT/socket.ssh This file doesn't exist. However, there is another directory in /tmp called ssh-gPkVBp3144 and this contains just the file agent.3144. If I execute $ ln /tmp/ssh-gPkVBp3144/agent.3144 /tmp/keyring-nWDqUT/socket.ssh Then SSH authenticates fine. -- gnome-keyring-daemon returns Agent admitted failure to sign using the key. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/328127 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 298545] Re: cheese webcam : no video display and hangs
I hope that the attached data, read in conjunction with these comments, will aid diagnosis. It may be that the fault does not lie with Cheese. Cheese worked OK for me in the early alphas of Intrepid, then stopped working with the symptoms described above. The first thing I noticed was that it took an abnormally long time before the animated paw-print image disappeared, and it seemed to be opening the camera device twice. A significant breakthrough came when I tried to change the capture resolution to the minimum. As usual, Cheese went into a futex-wait and refused to respond further. However, when I restarted it, it worked OK, displaying low-res camera information and taking snapshots. I increased the resolution in steps until at 320x240 it packed up with a futex-wait. The attachment contains the following files: cheese1.out: result of cheese --verbose --gst-debug-level=3 2cheese1.out cheese2.out: ditto, but I changed the resolution (successfully) to 176x144 (next-to-lowest resolution). envdata.txt: data about the environment, versions etc. It seems to me that cheese is no longer able to cope with the data stream except at the lowest resolutions. ** Attachment added: Debug output from cheese, version info http://launchpadlibrarian.net/20130069/cheese.tar.gz -- cheese webcam : no video display and hangs https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/298545 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

(What a joy to see my CPU registers for the first time! It was nice to see some old friends and meet some new ones; I haven't run a debugger since working on the Intel 286!) Some additional notes, which I hope will be helpful: a) I have two Intrepid 64-bit installs, both kept very up to date, and the problem is manifest on both. b) in the course of testing, on one occasion I managed to navigate two links in yelp OK; then, on clicking back, I got the futex hang-up. c) Once I had a crash with SIGSEGV in malloc(), but alas the browser wouldn't get started; hopefully apport uploaded something anyway. d) in order to produce the attachment, once yelp hung up, I detached with ctrl-Z and returned to the gdb prompt. [Bug 276508] Re: [intrepid] [Atheros AR5211] ath5k driver inoperative, wpa_supplicant never completes connection
I edited /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist to blacklist the madwifi proprietary drivers ath_pci and ath_hal, and removed the blacklist on ath5k. Then I rebooted. Yes! It works! lspci confirms ath5k is now acting as the driver and iwconfig confirms that I have a wlan0 virtual device. Perhaps the problem resulted from a conflict with the previously-installed madwifi drivers. Now to test whether the connexion survives a standby...! -- [intrepid] [Atheros AR5211] ath5k driver inoperative, wpa_supplicant never completes connection https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/276508 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 278893] [NEW] yelp info:sed hangs on navigation to new page
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: yelp Using Intrepid, system up to date. Hopefully full report a problem information automatically annexed hereto. [Bug 276508] Re: [intrepid] [Atheros AR5211] ath5k driver inoperative, wpa_supplicant never completes connection
I originally had madwifi-hal running with Hardy; when I installed Intrepid Alpha 6 as an upgrade, it continued to work fine until my next restart, when ath5k was substituted. Much time spent trying to remove ath5 with modprobe -r, but this would not work and I had to blacklist it. I don't think that the two drivers could have been simultaneously loaded, but if not, then I hold ath5k responsible for seriously confusing my hardware (AR242X on Acer 5620Z). With ath5k the device was configured as wmaster0 and was inaccessible to iwconfig et al. With madwifi-hal-0.10.5.6-r3861-20080903 (logical device ath0), at first it responded to iwconfig etc. but would not transmit or receive. I tried booting into Vista (spit!); again the network interface seemed functional but would neither transmit nor recive. Eventually I tried powering right down and restarting. That got it going. (Other sufferers with a dead AR242X would do well to follow the instructions at madwifi.org and to blacklist ath5k for the time being.) -- [intrepid] [Atheros AR5211] ath5k driver inoperative, wpa_supplicant never completes connection https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/276508 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
