[Bug 745960] Re: Cannot boot GRUB on Intel Mac after installing to LVM
My original report was on a Mac. I was able to reproduce the issue consistently at that time. I was never able to reproduce the issue on a x86 VM. I don't believe a test on an x86 VM answers the question here. I would leave this incomplete until someone has time to test this on real hardware, preferably some type of hardware that previously had the problem, or at least something that uses GPT. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/745960 Title: Cannot boot GRUB on Intel Mac after installing to LVM To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu-release-notes/+bug/745960/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 872405] Re: Swap partition smaller than RAM (entire disk install)
It's a bug because it's done that way on every other Ubuntu flavor, on the same machine. There is a clear and obvious pattern and one of them is doing something different and unpredictable. [Bug 856826] Re: 'guided resize' partioning leaves Mac unbootable
Seems to also occur when doing an in-place upgrade (from Oneiric to Oneiric). I started from a working Oneiric system (from ubuntu-oneiric-desktop- amd64+mac.iso from 2011-10-11) which was installed with "guided: entire disk" partitioning (i.e. using ext4). I booted ubuntu-oneiric-desktop-amd64+mac.iso from 2011-10-12 and chose the upgrade option. [Bug 872405] [NEW] Swap partition smaller than RAM (entire disk install)
Public bug reported: Installing kubuntu-oneiric-desktop-amd64+mac.iso (2011-10-11) with 'guided: entire disk' partitioning, a swap partition of 2GB is created, despite the machine having 4GB of RAM. This is a MacBookPro6,2. This is unique from bug 760336, which refers to the debian-installer and has limited disk space. Here the machine has a 298GB disk. [Bug 855871] Re: Grub install fails after manual xfs partitioning
That's interesting, because it is not necessary to create any additional partition when I do manual partitioning with an ext4 filesystem. I've posted some install logs about that in bug 856763 . I still believe this bug here to be unique because it causes grub to fail to install, which does not occur e.g. with reiserfs. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/855871 Title: Grub install fails after manual xfs partitioning To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubiquity/+bug/855871/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 856763] Re: Mac cannot boot from reiserfs
Also, when I do try to manually create the efi partition (in case it's not automatically created) I get: The efi file system creation in partition #3 of SCSI1 (0,0,0) (sda) failed. In this case I tried to create an xfs filesystem, rather than a reiserfs, but the failure occurred while trying to create the efi partition. So, I believe that it belongs in this bug report. [Bug 856826] [NEW] d-i 'guided resize' partioning leaves Mac unbootable
Public bug reported: After installing with ubuntu-oneiric-alternate-amd64+mac.iso (ISO from 2011-09-21) this MacBookPro6,2 is not bootable. I used the 'guided resize' partitioning option to split an existing ext4 partition to make space. The original system was working fine and the resulting partition table, after the install, looks reasonable (two ext4 partitions, two swap parititons, and a bios_grub partition). This would appear to be a regression. If I remember rightly, this worked correctly in Oneiric once before. [Bug 855871] Re: Grub install fails after manual xfs partitioning
In another installation, also with xfs, I left a 1-2 GB unpartitioned space at the beginning of the disk (plenty of space for the bios_grub partition), but grub again failed. In another installation, I also tried the same patition layout as the original bug report (first 4GB swap, 1-2 GB unpartitioned, ~300 GB root partition) with ext4 rather than xfs and the bios_grub partition was created correctly and the system boots as expected. I'm trying to narrow down whether the problem occurs due to deciding where the bios_grub partition gets placed, but it seems to only occur with xfs.

[Bug 855871] [NEW] Grub install fails after manual xfs partitioning
Public bug reported: I chose the manual partitioning option. I first created a new partition table. Then I created a 5 GB swap at the beginning of the disk (RAM is 4GB) I left a 1 GB gap in the middle of the disk, unpartitioned, to not use up the entire disk. Then I created a 300-something GB XFS partition at the end of the disk. Installation continues until grub tries to install and fails. Grub says that it has failed. I opted to continue without installing the bootloader. Upon finishing the installation, ubiquity also crashed, which is what this apport report caught. Re: [Bug 838676] Re: [installer] "Choos a picture" screen too narrow
The bug isn't that it needs to have three columns, the bug is that it looks like it's trying to have three columns. I.e. the excessive white space makes it look like something in the layout is broken. Just increasing the padding between the columns would probably be sufficient. [Bug 837681] Re: Automatic partitioning corrupts GUID partition table (GPT)
Fix confirmed for parted-2.3-6ubuntu2 Thanks for asking, Colin, but this is just a test machine, made for breaking. Just wanted to try gptsync.
