[Bug 1668148] Re: Booting installer in EFI mode with existing bios mode hd crashes

2018-07-11 Thread Chris Chambers
Re comment 23, Thank you Steve.

Yes, from what you say of changes made i agree the problem this end will
be solved. So i will have another go at installing 18.04 but will wait
till 18.04.1 And i will have a go at UEFI boot and to enrol the
broadcom-sta-dkms module that you say is possible. A new learning
curve for me!

Thanks.

[Bug 1668148] Re: Booting installer in EFI mode with existing bios mode hd crashes

2018-07-08 Thread Chris Chambers
I have this problem to and my setup is a bit different and i do not see
a similar setup mentioned here.

My disc is GPT partitioned, UEFI is disabled and i boot/install in BIOS
mode but Ubuntu (Lubuntu) is the only OS installed. That is because off
a BCM4312 wireless chip which i need compile a module for, no binary
available. Short off getting that compiled driver signed i must disable
UEFI and use BIOS mode.

Disc is partitioned; / , swap , /home , no bios-grub or EFI partition.

Four attempts to install 18.04 all failed. Problem as noted above.
Installed 16.04 no problem other than install media does boot as UEFI
and the messages 16.04 installer gives are a bit succinct! but going
back one stage does fix and install works good.

During the 18.04 install attempts NO warning messages received.

Best Wishes Chris

[Bug 438150] Re: [karmic] Network-manager fails to reconnect to 3G network

2011-05-04 Thread Chris Chambers
I would like to confirm bug exactly as first posted. Affecting Lubuntu
10.10 AND now 11.04.

nm-applet will connect my Huawei E1750 modem on the UK 3 3g network.
I live on a boat on the UK inland waterways and am mobile.
If i suffer a dissconnection due to a weak signal nm-applet will not reconnect
if i regain the signal and it always reports disconnected
Kill all nm-applet and disconnecting the modem then AFTER a few moments
restarting nm-applet and replugging the modem in and it will reconnect if
signal strenght is good.
The sakis3g script works perfectly well so it is not a hardware problem

[Bug 459054] Re: ubiquity partition step does not show some hard drives

2010-01-31 Thread Chris Chambers
Same here. Ubiquity during manual partitioning master hard drive is not
seen at all and slave hard disc is referenced as sda. Installing anyway
and the system will not boot, grub comes up with error 15.

I rebooted into Karmic live CD and then Hardy live CD and ran cfdisk and
gparted from both. None of the 4 are showing the master hard disc and
all reference the slave as sda.

I had been wanting to try Karmic and installed to spare hard discs. I
have reverted to my normal single hard disc with Hardy and cannot test
further.

Best Wishes to you.

Regret unable to further test this. I have changed distro's to Arch. I
seem to remember never getting over this problem until resorting to re-
install an earlier version of Ubuntu, probably an LTS.

[Bug 335859] [NEW] Panel clock, calendar, weather applet wishlist.

2009-02-28 Thread Chris Chambers
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-applets

This is wish list.

Any chance of also being able to configure the gnome panel
clock,calendar and weather applet as follows;

On a separate movable window that will be shown on the desktop by default when
just booted up,but under other windows
if any other window opened.

This will help those, such as myself with a poor memory, who forget to
click the clock applet to show reminders etc.

Best Wishes to you Chris
.
PS,This applet is the best around for its purpose and it would really be nice
to have things this way and in effect
show it off a bit more.

[Bug 323004] [NEW] Metacity will not maximise over whole screen depth.

2009-01-29 Thread Chris Chambers
Public bug reported:

Cycling through minimise,un-maximise and maximise buttons the metacity
window falls short of the available screen depth.Dragging the window to
increase depth has no permanent affect either.

Workaround is to change the screen resolution and then back to what
was. This fixes the problem for a day or two when the metacity window
when maximised takes up all available screen depth.

[Bug 208073] Re: GDMsetup error if you try change the login window.

2008-03-29 Thread Chris Chambers
Unable to submit crash report there isn't one.
Reinstalled GDM which fixed problem here until reboot when it returns, still get
'CRITICAL: Error...' if sudo gdmsetup run from terminal.
Any amend to gdm from gdmsetup also produces a slow shutdown and 'LIBHAL
shutdown failed' error message. This corrects itself after reboot and i get a
normal shutdown.

Can accept this may be an oddity to do with this machine only and if so
apologies for submitting an bug report. But i am not certain it is.Best
Wishes Chris.

exactly;

gdmsetup[6151]: CRITICAL: Error opening file: no such file or directory

After repeating this many times the GUI will pop up and seems to work OK

to Gnome.

Hi Pedro,

Further to my last email;

changed screen resolution and started GSM,same problem,it has returned,
process screen flashing on/off.Took screenshot which is now attached.
quit GSM from monitor tab as no window border again.

since then tried different resolutions and turning visual effects on/off
but unable to repeat the problem although sometimes the window border is
there sometimes not.

Best Wishes Chris.

2007-10-18 Thread Chris Chambers
Hi Pedro,

Received your email and did the following ,

started Gnome System Monitor and checked the process tab, display
flashing on and off whenever the mouse cursor is over the process
screen.i.e same as previous.closed off GSM.

turned off visual effects and started GSM again, checked process tab and
all is normal,no flashing. What is more the window border is visible
including top panel so close window button is available.

turned visual effects back on and Gnome System Monitor is still OK,all
as normal,no probs.

vga card is ATI Radeon 7000 VE.

unable to take a screen shot of the problem as it is fixed however going
to try changing display resolution and couple other things to see if i
can get the flashing on/off back.if i can will try to take a screen
shot.

Best Wishes Chris.
