[Bug 1863255] Re: Programs installed in Snap format do not detect the keyboard

2020-10-17 Thread Chris S.
I'm on snap 2.47 and chromium does not respond to the keyboard. It is version:
Version 86.0.4240.75 (Official Build) snap (64-bit)

System info:
Ubuntu 20.04.1 LTS (64-bit)
GNOME 3.36.3 with Wayland

Why am I on Wayland...? Not sure! I thought I stuck with X... Maybe
that's part of the problem.

Let me know if there are any other specs that would help.

In addition, I have noted many corrupt icons since switching to the snap
package. For example, the close button in the upper right that should
display as a simple X has some weird shaped whale looking icon attached
to the left side of it. When I go to save a file, the system icons I
have selected are not display, instead corrupted icons or no icons
display. I'm not sure if this is related to the keyboard issue, but they
both occurred after upgrading to snap.

2020-05-20 Thread Chris S.
1) This is the speaker in question: http://fugoo.com.au/fugoo-sport.php
2) Confirm - I can select the higher quality audio profile by going to settings
after the speaker is paired / connected.

[Bug 1846501] Re: qemu-system-x86 missing ssbd flag in UCA Ocata

2019-10-08 Thread Chris S
>From a users perspective this can be solved simply by not providing
updated libvirt/qemu package in the UCA repositories - the versions
provided in Xenial are sufficient to run nova, and are also going to get
consistent updates during the lifespan of the release.

If a newer version is really desired then ideally I would suggest it is
pulled from the next LTS release up, rather than one from a non LTS
release - the version requirements in openstack for functionality don't
change that much between releases, so there's plenty of warning, and
again patching of security updates is handled by someone else.

Upgrading to Queens is not something that is immediately available to
us, and would also require a double bump going via Pike, which I guess
may also have its own libvirt/qemu deployments which I fear may have the
same bugs. I appreciate that the control plane can be upgraded and use
"[upgrade_levels]" to maintain compatability, and the hypervisors could
potentially skip Pike (or maintain the held libvirt/qemu packages as I
have done for Ocata).

My actual aim is to transition to a kolla based deployment, but the
ocata image using Ubuntu binaries has the newer qemu and libvirt
packages, and so we will be unable to migrate our hypervisors until a
later release anyway with this issue.

Thanks for all the references and input here folks :)

[Bug 1846501] [NEW] qemu-system-x86 missing ssbd flag in UCA Ocata

2019-10-03 Thread Chris S
Public bug reported:

Specific package version qemu-system-x86==1:2.8+dfsg-3ubuntu2.9~cloud6

Upgrading to Ocata from Newton on Xenial results in a significant
upgrade to libvirt (1.3.1 -> 2.5) and qemu (2.5 -> 2.8)

Instances created in Newton have access to the SSBD CPU flag in QEMU,
however after the upgrade this feature is reported as missing, meaning
that live-migrations are not possible.

The libvirt 2.5 package depends on QEMU >= 2.8

The SSBD patch looks to have been applied upstream, but does not seem to
have made it in here:

For the time being I am working around this problem by pinning libvirt

are within the versions for Ocata listed here

[Bug 1694454] Re: Can't open gnome terminal

2018-03-29 Thread Chris S.
dino99: I tried what I said, and GNOME apps launch when logging out
fully from each session. So the issue only occurs when two DEs have been
logged in (even if the XFCE session is logged out), I assume with the
same username. So perhaps GNOME apps think they're launching in XFCE,
but since XFCE is closed, they don't launch anywhere.

It would appear the workaround for me would be to remote login with a
different username.

[Bug 1694454] Re: Can't open gnome terminal

2018-03-29 Thread Chris S.
dino99: I ran deborphan and bleachbit. Nothing major there.

The most recent change to this system was the setup of XFCE and XRDP for
remote login. If I restart the machine, I can launch the GNOME apps like
normal. To replicate the issue, I first have to remote login to XFCE (do
something, then log out). Then I physically go to the PC and try to use
a GNOME app in the GNOME DE. The XFCE and GNOME sessions use the same
username. So it appears the GNOME apps may be getting confused as to
which DE to use. But why just the GNOME apps and not everything else?

In order to set up the remote desktop, I modified the .xsession file to
be this:

#!/bin/bash
xfce4-session

This allows me to log in as the same user on the local and remote
sessions. Perhaps this is a bad practice, but it allows me to use my
tower PC (in the basement) on my laptop (upstairs). Perhaps this would
all work better if I set up a separate user (e.g., in the original
username group to access the same files) for remote access instead of
using the same username.

Still, I imagine if I log out of GNOME, log in remotely with XFCE, log
out of XFCE, then log in to GNOME, the issue may still persist. I will
try that now.

I can confirm this with a few apps, including gnome-terminal, nautilus,
"book", "documents", "calendar", dconf Editor, "disks", "disk usage
analyzer", and "logs", all GNOME apps.

Oddly, certain apps are just fine, like Gedit, System Monitor, and the

[Bug 1694454] Re: Can't open gnome terminal

2018-03-28 Thread Chris S.
Running any of the above apps via command / command line with "dbus-
launch" in front works.

In my situation, the only thing that's different in my setup is the
addition of XRDP for remote desktop, which is set to log in to XFCE
instead of GNOME to allow the two sessions to continue side-by-side.
This was set in the ~/.xsession file. I changed the file back to GNOME
session to test this, but it didn't help.

[Bug 1614634] [NEW] Gnome Control Panel does not detect Bluetooth USB adapter

2016-08-18 Thread Chris S.
Public bug reported:

I plugged in a working Bluetooth USB adpater, and the Bluetooth section
of the Gnome Control Panel does not detect it. It continues to say "Plug
in a dongle to use Bluetooth." I've tried other USB ports (this computer
is new within the last 2 months), but none detect the adapter. It's a
Sabrent USB adapter, found here:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00EAAAJWU/ref=pe_385040_30332190_TE_3p_M3T1_ST1_dp_1

I'm not sure if I need some additional drivers or not.

Ubuntu 16.04.1 LTS
Release 16.04

gnome-control-center:
  Installed: 1:3.18.2-1ubuntu6
  Candidate: 1:3.18.2-1ubuntu6

 *** 1:3.18.2-1ubuntu6 500
500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu xenial/universe amd64 Packages

I expected the Bluetooth adapter to allow Bluetooth to be turned on
after it was plugged in. I tried rebooting the machine with the adapter
plugged in and that didn't work either. Instead, nothing happened.

Here is a similar, if not the same, issue reported on RedHat:

[Bug 1037256] Re: Sorting items by names do not work properly

2016-01-03 Thread Chris S.
I'm having this problem right now. Ubuntu 15.10, Nautilus 3.14.2. Any
sort order I pick in the preferences does nothing in Icon View. I have a
desktop where this is not an issue, and I don't know what's different
about the two.

[Bug 653245] Re: Docky theme is absent!

2010-10-12 Thread Chris S.
Also, the docky theme has been removed from the codebase for quite some
time now (more than 7 months). Docky (the separate application
lp:docky) offers significantly more functionality, and in no way
interferes with Do. We suggest switching Do back to the classic theme
and using Docky (lp:docky) simultaneously.

[Bug 636636] Re: sync gupnp-vala 0.6.11-1 (universe) from Debian experimental (main)

2010-09-12 Thread Chris S.
A ffe should be granted for this because this version is listed as an
external dependency for GNOME 2.31.x, according to this page:
http://live.gnome.org/TwoPointThirtyone/ExternalDependencies, the
minimum version of gupnp-vala required is 0.6.11. Granting an exception
for this package would ensure that we maintain compatibility with other
GNOME packages, and meet the minimum expected requirements for shipping
2.31.x

[Bug 630524] Re: Sync gupnp-dlna 0.3.1-1 from Debian experimental (main)

An exception for this package should be granted because it is listed as
an official dependency of the GNOME 2.31.x series
(http://live.gnome.org/TwoPointThirtyone/ExternalDependencies). This
package is also a dependency of gupnp-vala, which I have also filed a
sync request for (lp:636636).

The impact to release and the distribution as a whole is minimal as
currently, no packages in the default install depend on any of the gupnp
stuff.

[Bug 630030] Re: Sync lxc 0.7.2-1 (universe) from Debian unstable (main)

2010-09-06 Thread Chris S.
I would very much like to see this synced as well as lxc 0.7.2 fixes a
very serious issue with using a physical ethernet interface for a
container. Before 0.7.2 a physical interface would not be released
once a container stopped, making it impossible to use that physical
interface with another container, or even the same container, until a
full system restart was performed.

[Bug 630030] Re: Sync lxc 0.7.2-1 (universe) from Debian unstable (main)

2010-09-06 Thread Chris S.
The full 0.7.2 release notes for lxc can be found here:
http://voxel.dl.sourceforge.net/project/lxc/lxc/lxc-0.7.2/RELEASE-NOTES

Some excerpts about the physical interface problem I was describing before:
* fix inverted network interface creation
* keep the name of the physical interface
* fix core dump when using physical interface
* Dont' try to remove a physical nic on error

[Bug 510934] [NEW] launchers do not show localized icon

2010-01-21 Thread Chris S.
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

Nautilus does not display the icon of a launcher properly. The Desktop
Entry Specification (here: http://standards.freedesktop.org/desktop-
entry-spec/desktop-entry-spec-1.0.html ) indicates that the Icon key in
a .desktop file is of type 'localestring', meaning that the localized
icon should be preferred.

To observe this, take a .desktop file, set Icon=gtk-cancel, and
Icon[locale]=gtk-apply. Nautilus will show the 'gtk-cancel' icon,
where gnome-panel will show the 'gtk-apply' icon.

using karmic, nautilus 1:2.28.1-0ubuntu3

Sidenote: this seems relevant:
https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/336679

But, I don't think the resolution of lp:336679 was the correct thing to
do, according to the fdo desktop entry spec.

Upgrade (using our ppa), as there is a new version available. If that
fixes your problem, then let us know. And if that doesn't fix it, can
you try building from source to see if that works? I'm using a more
recent (from source) build of Do and page up / down work fine for me.

That's because when you log in through GDM the keyring gets unlocked

Re: [Bug 444417] Re: gnome-do can't intellihide very well on multiple monitors of different sizes

2009-10-06 Thread Chris S.
How are your multiple monitors set up? What hardware are you using
(actually, what drivers, nvidia binary, catalyst, opensource)? I
think in all of the different drivers they will allow you to line up
where the screen edges are by dragging the monitor and aligning either
the bottom or top of the monitor to the other.

I have two monitors, the secondary of which is larger than the primary, so
there is some dead space below the primary monitor which I cannot see (but my
 mouse pointer can stray into).
Since Do is on the primary monitor, at the bottom, and set to Intellihide, I
can't summon it by moving to the bottom of the primary monitor, presumably
because that's not actually an edge.
Perhaps Do could try to be clever and notice that there is dead space there
and make its edge detection mechanism actually detect the mouse being in that
 entire dead space?

Re: [Bug 417051] Re: remove evolution dependency

2009-08-21 Thread Chris S.
We have already removed Evolution from the dependancy list for
do-plugins. This is actually a problem with the distribution
packagers. When building do-plugins it is possible to remove the
plugins that require external libs (like evolution, the google
plugins, etc), so we leave it up to the distro packagers to package
these plugins separately.

It might take a while for the packagers to do something about this, so
in the meantime you can always build from source (it's not that
complicated... really) and you won't be required to have evolution.

Stop by #gnome-do on irc.freenode.net sometime if you need help
obtaining / building the source.

Installing the aptoncd_0.1-1_all.deb is useless because the package

[Bug 377157] [NEW] support changing status in Skype

2009-05-15 Thread Chris S.
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: fast-user-switch-applet

This is a feature request to support changing status with FUSA in Skype.
Skype has a DBUS API that supports changing status.

Skype has a few extra status options, but those could be ignored (I'm
think of the Skype Me and Do Not Disturb statuses).

I've done a bit of work on the Skype plugin for GNOME Do, which can
change Skype status via DBUS, and I'd be willing to help anyone out who
wanted to implement this. I looked through the source and it seems like
something similar to pg_set_status could be written to perform the
appropriate action with Skype.

Thanks.

Re: [Do-plugins] [Bug 370965] Re: Pidgin plugin starts all new converations in AIM

2009-05-02 Thread Chris S.
You'll need to build do-plugins from source. If you are running
gnome-do from jaunty's repos, you'll need to branch at an earlier
revision, because we made some changes recently eliminating the plugin
repository. Branch at rev 586 (bzr branch lp-do -r 586). From there,
go into the source directory, and run
$ ./autogen.sh --prefix=/usr
$ make install

At that point, if everything went well, the pidgin plugin should show
version 2.0 in Do's plugin preferences window.

You'll more than likely need a bunch of extra packages to build
do-plugins. apt-get build-dep gnome-do-plugins is a good start. Best
advice is to just run autogen and chase dep's :)

We have a wiki page here listing some of the dep's
(http://do.davebsd.com/wiki/index.php?title=Installing_Do#From_Source).
That hasn't been updated for a little while though, so autogen may
complain about missing packages.

If you need any other help drop by our IRC channel, #gnome-do on
freenode and I'll be happy to help.

[Bug 294288] [NEW] restore shown when inappropriate

2008-11-05 Thread Chris S.
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

Ubuntu: Intrepid 8.10
Nautilus: 2.24.1 ( 1:2.24.1-0ubuntu1)

Nautilus shows an option to restore a file in the context (right-
click) menu when it is not applicable.

How to reproduce:
1. Create a blank file in any folder.
2. Right click - move to trash.
3. Open trash, right click on file - restore.
4. Go back to original folder when blank file was created, right click to bring
up context menu.
5. Context menu now shows an option to restore and move to trash.

The option to restore should not be applicable here because it was
already restored to the original folder. If you try to restore the
file, it will prompt about an error copying the file to the directory
because it already exists.

[Bug 111917] Re: tkinter exception when using pyraf

2008-10-15 Thread Chris S
Hi all,

It turns out this is related to internationalization in a Tkinter call.
A small change has been made to PyRAF so that this crash no longer
occurs. I am not sure who at STSCI originally fielded the Nicolas'
call. However, PyRAF users (on any OS) should be aware that running
tasks such as implot, splot, etc, which rely on terminal character
input, will be affected by LC_LANG and specifically (in this case)
LC_NUMERIC.

This is not a bug in Python or Ubuntu.

Hope that helps,
Chris

[Bug 256923] [NEW] include keytouch 2.4.1 in intrepid : serious bug fix

2008-08-11 Thread Chris S.
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: keytouch

Keytouch is still version 2.3.2 in the intrepid (and hardy) repos.
Unfortunately there is a serious flaw with this version of the program
that prevents the computer from shutting down. This is discussed in
great detail in the launchpad bug report for the package, here:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/keytouch/+bug/186713

It is also discussed in multiple forum threads:

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=846172highlight=keytouch+shutdown
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=800013highlight=keytouch+shutdown

critical bug, version 2.4.1.

Intrepid?
