Re: [Bug 390170] Re: System randomly restarts

2010-08-02 Thread Clive Rodeo
Hi Fabio, thanks for the follow-up. There have been no further problems
like this one in Lucid. It seemed to settle down after the Karmic
release.

There has been an occasional problem with Compiz (I assume... I haven't
been able to reproduce it).

After leaving the puter idle for some time I have returned to find all
running applications and open windows on the first desktop, and the
graphics running in standard mode (no wobbly windows, no rotating cube,
sliding desk top changer etc.). It requires a reboot to reset the
enhanced eye candy.

I haven't had the time to research bug reports. Maybe if it happens when
I'm in a sufficiently pissed off mood I'll try and fix it, but I'm time-
poor.

Kind Regards,
Daz

To: darrellsto...@yahoo.com.au
Received: Sunday, 31 January, 2010, 9:53 PM

As of karmic the stv06xx from staging seems to support this camera too,
so the qc-usb driver got dropped. Since I'm using lucid with a mainline
kernel I can only talk about that, but there it gets listed in hal
correctly as v4l device. So there is no need to report it upstream and
if this gets confirmed for karmic, then this report could be finally
closed.

So could someone with karmic please try:
hal-find-by-capability --capability video4linux.video_capture
and check if this lists your quickcam. This will probably only show something
like
/org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/usb_device_46d_840_noserial_if0_video4linux
then check if values after usb_device, (46d_840 in my case) match the
device id of your cam under
lsusb
Bus 003 Device 002: ID 046d:0840 Logitech, Inc. QuickCam Express in my case

But this driver seems to have its own set of problems, too. Only the
first frame is captured and then it seems frozen, but those problems are
out of the scope of this bug report.

If anyone could check whether this bug still exists that would be great.
This then probably should be forwarded to the kernel bug tracker.

Koen Beek [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: There are a few strange things in
your sources.list file

line
deb http://www.getautomatix.com/apt/ gutsy
seems to be missing a parameter (main ?) - on the other hand you coudl also try
to comment this line

you can look at what automatix give as an example
http://getautomatix.com/wiki/index.php?title=Sources.list#Ubuntu_7.10_Gutsy_i386_and_AMD64

lines
deb http://tw.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ feisty-backports main restricted
universe multiverse
deb-src http://tw.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ feisty-backports main restricted
universe multiverse
seem to link to feisty in stead of gutsy

I suspect the error is cause by the malformed automatix line which is
missing the main parameter at the end of the line
