I experience the identical problem, but with TP-LINK TL-WN722N (Atheros)
WiFi USB stick.

[Bug 237760] Re: External harddrive failure, ehci_hcd

Yes, this problem still persists.  I observe the same USB 2.0 failure
mode under Hardy Ubuntu 8.04 LTS:  persistent reset high speed USB
device using ehci_hcd messages.

This failure occurs for all of:
2 Gb Memorex TravelDrive
250 Gb Western Digital Passport WD2500XMS
750 Gb Seagate 3.5 External ST3750640CB-RK

Adding options usbcore autosuspend=-1 to /etc/modprobe.d/usb-core-
options (followed by sudo update-initramfs -u) is a reasonable
workaround.  However, it still requires unplugging of USB devices during
reboots.  A better fix still would seem to be in order.
