[Bug 319553] Re: No Wired Internet Connection in 8.10

2009-01-27 Thread CrownDude
Hi Brian,

I did what you said both with and without the first 2 lines in my
interfaces file and also with and without changing managed=false to true
in my nm-system-settings.conf file, but still nothing. When my
interfaces is like it is now (file attached) and managed set to false it
says device is unmanaged when I click on my network app.

[Bug 319553] [NEW] No Wired Internet Connection in 8.10

2009-01-21 Thread CrownDude
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: network-manager

I have a Dell Latitude D630 laptop running Ubuntu 8.10. When I was
running 8.04 I had no problem connecting to the internet via my work's
ADSL line. I just plugged it in and that was it. My laptop has a
internal 3G card and since 8.10 it is a dream to connect via 3G, but not
with ADSL. When I plug it in the network manager starts doing it's
thing, and then says it is connected to auto eth0 but I can not ping
the router, Google, or anything. I've tried to get help in forums and in
#ubuntu, but couldn't get it sorted out. I've also filled a bug report
before, but I might have not done it properly. It also seems like I'm
not the only one having this problem.

If you need any information or reports, please ask? I would really like
this being sorted out as it has been going on since installing Ibex at
the end of October 2008.

Here are some outputs that I hope will help:

[Bug 319553] Re: No Wired Internet Connection in 8.10

2009-01-21 Thread CrownDude
That thread make me really appreciate proper forums! Everything is so
messed up there, or is it just me?

I don't have a eth0 in my interfaces file. I tried to check the
manages=false to true in /etc/NetworkManager/nm-system-settings.conf and
add auto eth0; iface eth0 inet loopback to my interfaces file, but
nothing.

Am I missing something?

[Bug 296256] [NEW] No wired internet connection in Ibex

2008-11-10 Thread CrownDude
Public bug reported:

My 3G internet connection works perfectly, but when plugging a wired
network's cable in it detects it and tells me I'm connected, but I can't
access the internet. I pinged google.com but still nothing. According to
the help forums it seems like a lot of people are having this problem,
but there is not fix, so I guess it must be a bug?

[Bug 289455] Re: Repository not Updating

Hi Tomasz,

So you want me to change the server back to South Africa and main and

Thanks.

[Bug 289455] Re: Repository not Updating

2008-10-27 Thread CrownDude
I changed it back to the main and Server for South Africa
respectively, but got the same problem. Then I played around with it a
bit.

I let it choose the best server again, that happened to be a server in
Europe and it worked. It also found about 10 MB of updates. After that I
manually chose the ubuntu.mirror.ac.za server in South Africa, which
reloaded fine, but had no updates. I also tried the ftp.leg.uct.ac.za
server, but that took so long to update that I canceled it. Then, I took
the best server option again, and this time it chose a mirror in
Botswana, that has about 20MB of updates. Note that I didn't not
download any of those updates yet. Should I or should I wait for the
local server?

So, in other words: The main and South African servers (excluding
ubuntu.mirror.ac.za) is not working. Does the fact that updates differ
from server to server mean that they are still busy updating?

Thanks.

Thanks. I'll do that. Another thing I noticed is that when updating
after changing the server to a working one, the software sources windows
does not close, although everything is grayed out. When clicking on the
X it wants to reload again. The only way to get out of this is to say no
to the reloading request. I just installed Ubuntu on a friends laptop
who is a Linux virgin! lol! The windows not closing issue happens on my
computer his. I know this is not part of this bug, I just don't want to
create another bug request if its not necessary. What do you think?

Thanks Alan,

As someone who has been using Linux for a while I find this shocking
though. I have a BIOS password running aswell, but if I compare it to

Is it all distro's thats like this? And don't you think this should be
changed?

Also, doesn't encryption reduce performance?

[Bug 219192] Re: [hardy] livecd: keyword persistent results in busybox and (initramfs)

2008-05-11 Thread CrownDude
I'm using the new initrd that was posted here and got it to work. But
the problem is it only works when it wants to! Sometimes it just doesn't
want to boot up and gives a hell of a lot of file error while starting
up, or the persistency disappears. One of the directories that I'm
suppose to be copying to my flash drive is the disctree directory. But I
don't have that. It is not on the CD. Am I the only one with this
problem?

Also, once this actually works, will I be able to put files on the flash
drive home directory to use when I run Ubuntu from it?

Thanks.
