Thanks all. I downgraded packages from raring-proposed, reinstalled ia32-libs
and all is good.
Thanks again.

[Bug 1079940] Re: [Sony VAIO VPCS137GG] Laptop suspend fails

2013-01-09 Thread Damian Beltrami
Hi Christopher,

I really do appreciate your assistance but I have tried a number of these
kernels and we are getting no where.
I am seriously considering going back to 12.04.

Laptop suspend is an essential function and it is disappointing that it
continually breaks with each new release. There are alot of users (on
many different machines) experiencing the same problem. In my case, my
keyboard backlighting is also not working.

I also don't understand why this bug is still tagged as incomplete.
What do I have to do to make it complete?

Many thanks,
Damian.

However the laptop will not resume after suspend.

[Bug 1079940] Re: [Sony VAIO VPCS137GG] Laptop suspend fails

2012-11-18 Thread Damian Beltrami
No. I have always been able to suspend and resume. The last few
releases has seen the issue appear at release time but it has been
addressed shortly after.

Frankly, Suspend/Resume is a critical function and it is disappointing
that it continues to be an issue with each new release. I note that
there are a number of other users, on different hardware, impacted by
this issue also.

Thanks for your ongoing help Chistopher.

[Bug 1079940] Re: [Sony VAIO VPCS137GG] Laptop suspend fails

2012-11-17 Thread Damian Beltrami
HI Christopher,

I tested with 3.7-rc6.

I can boot but, again, Unity does not load (no launcher or top panel).
Also my input devices do not work (no response to keyboard, mouse responds but
freezes) so I cannot use the system.

I closed the lid on the laptop and there is no response from the system.
At least the previous mainline kernel build activated the suspend
process. So I would say this version has regressed even further.

I'd like to note that with each previous 2-3 releases of Ubunbtu I have
installed, Suspend has been broken (and then fixed shortly after
release) so I would say there must be a known issue that continues to
regress with each release.

Thanks,
Damian

2012-11-16 Thread Damian Beltrami
Hi Christopher,

I tested v3.7-rc5-raring.

I cannot test fully as my display drivers (nouveau or Nvidia drivers)
and/or Unity do not work properly. Unity does not load although I can
run applicatons (no window manager controls)

However, the laptop does suspend properly with this Kernel.
Unfortunately I was not able to resume from suspend (this may be related
to the display driver issues)

[Bug 951242] [NEW] Laptop does not suspend on lid close

2012-03-09 Thread Damian Beltrami
Public bug reported:

I have a Sony Vaio S (VPC137GG). Ubuntu suspends from the menu but does
not suspend when the laptop lid is closed. The Power Settings are
correct (ie. set to suspend on lid close).

This same issue occurred for me during the 11.10 beta phases and was
fixed before the 11.10 launch. Hopefully the same issue has recurred
and can be addressed.

[Bug 804595] Re: Sony Vaio VPCS132FX/B Ambient Light sensor does not work

2011-10-24 Thread Damian Beltrami
This is still a bug.

The fix I posted appears to set backlighting on when keys are pressed
(and switches it off after the set delay time). The ambient light
sensor does not appear to work (ie. in a fully lit room, the keyboard
still lights up).

I am certain this is a kernel regression. It worked fine prior to the
3.0 kernel release.

[Bug 804595] Re: Sony Vaio VPCS132FX/B Ambient Light sensor does not work

2011-10-23 Thread Damian Beltrami
Seems like this is a kernel issue, with users of other Distros
experiencing the same problem.

A fix is:

Added file sony-laptop.conf with single line:
options sony-laptop kbd_backlight=1
to /etc/modprobe.d/ and it seems to work fine now.

As per http://www.fedoraforum.org/forum/showthread.php?t=268249

[Bug 849110] Re: Regression: keyboard backlight hotkeys no longer work

2011-10-19 Thread Damian Beltrami
Another issue with the workaround is that the backlight does not obey
the ambient light sensor. That is, the backlighting always comes on
regardless of whether there is sufficient light detected or not. While
not ideal, this is better than no backlight at all!

Hi Luke,

Yes - had drums (I'm pretty sure) and the login sound after upgrade to
Oneric. I believe this regressed somewhere around the Beta 2 upgrade.

I have sound through normal apps and I can find the login sound file and
play it but if I try to run the command that plays the login file
(canberra-gtk) manually I get a failed to load module error

Still not working on my Sony Vaio S (11.10 Beta 2).
Always worked with 11.04 and stopped working somewhere between Beta 1 and Beta
2.

There are no keys on the Sony to switch this on and off (to my
knowledge). The keyboard backlighting is activated on keypress and if
the ambient low detected is low (I believe).
