[Bug 1832414] Re: Removing document files spam from cups

2022-04-09 Thread DanieW
Today 2022-04-09, I also saw this on my Rocky Linux (updated) after a
reboot after a crash, but "systemctl stop cups" and then "systemctl
start cups" as root, resolved the issue. Sorry I have no more info than
that. ; cups-2.2.6-40.el8.x86_64, Linux 4.18.0-348.12.2.el8_5.x86_64 #1

[Bug 1277675] Re: Flickering screen on mouse movement on RV370 [Radeon X300/X550/X1050 Series] on 13.10 Ubuntu

2014-02-11 Thread DanieW
I would like to get unity back or an alternate menu system so that I can access
my menus (even of the applications) again.
Now even in normal login lightdm session=ubuntu I don't have menu, launcher and
dash.

Starting panel but without launcher and menus:

[Bug 1277675] [NEW] Flickering screen on mouse movement on RV370 [Radeon X300/X550/X1050 Series] on 13.10 Ubuntu

2014-02-07 Thread DanieW
Public bug reported:

What happens:
On the normal login screen and thereafter the desktop the screen would flicker
often when the mouse or windows are moved.

I use Ubuntu profile (not flashback like previous bug report - Please
see https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/lightdm/+bug/1250729 ).

Work around - sort of:
A way around it is to select Advanced option during boot and then recovery mode
and then continue to normal login.
Then I don't experience flickering but also no gnome-panel and unity and dash
and app Launcher. I have to start gnome-panel and any apps from Ctrl-Alt-t
terminal.

info (from lshw) and what more can I give you?

[Bug 1250729] Re: Pre-Ubuntu 13.10 user (with cjkv) can not login with lightdm (ibus)

2014-02-07 Thread DanieW
In response to Gunnerś comment:
It's fine with me that you write a new flickering bug, if you prefer to do so.
In any case it seems like the info necessary to describe how to reproduce the
login issue is no longer available, so then - as you say -
we leave this bug unresolved with a won't fix.

[Bug 1250729] Re: Pre-Ubuntu 13.10 user (with cjkv) can not login with lightdm (ibus)

2014-02-06 Thread DanieW
Hi Gunnar

Yes, you are right. My initial problem was a flickering very often whenever I
move the mouse.
Then after an upgrade I could not login anymore with that account. Therefor the
swapping of usernames.
Then I also swithed to flashback to eliminate the flickering.
I now just want to use a standard Ubuntu login without flickering. (i.e. not
resorting to flashback or whatever and rescue mode)
I don't know what is exactly wrong, but am prepared to help to sort it out as
much as I can.

What I did after creating a new user: If I remember right, I copied over
my data to the new user home folder and changed its name to the original
name and had all hidden files/folders removed/backedup

I believe the problem is still the video driver and or settings. (btw
the screen size is 20 and the rescue login screen is in a lower res.)

OK?
(I just ran the update now again and will let you know if there is any
improvements.)

[Bug 1250729] Re: Pre-Ubuntu 13.10 user (with cjkv) can not login with lightdm (ibus)

2014-02-05 Thread DanieW
After latest updates (2014-02-05) it is again worse.
In order to bypass flickering login screen and then desktop I startup Ubuntu
Advanced and recovery mode and then continue to login - then no flickering but
now also no gnome-panel and no menus.
Ctrl-Alt-t gives terminal from where I can run FF and TB etc. and eventually
sudo shutdown -h now ...when I need it / if I need it.
{I have added some hardware info on my site link above ... for those interested}
This is not nice
How can I start the menus again in flashback? gnome-panel gets my panel at
least up.

2013-11-17 Thread DanieW
After reading comment #11 on
https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/lightdm/+question/215407,
I try on a su session.
danie@weer:~$ sudo apt-get install gnome-session-fallback
[sudo] password for danie:
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
Package gnome-session-fallback is not available, but is referred to by another
package.
This may mean that the package is missing, has been obsoleted, or
is only available from another source

E: Package 'gnome-session-fallback' has no installation candidate
Thus as long as session = gnome-fallback in .dmrc I won't be able to
login, right?
How can I change that?

still same problem -

when I have used the driver 8168 from Realtek it has worked before (should
still work) but when I use the 8169 (current)
driver it does not and I want to use both NICs.
See previous efforts at #60 above.
Kindly waiting for a response of what information anyone would require to help
with this. I just have to little knowledge at the moment to fix it myself.

[Bug 347711] Re: Realtek RTL8111/8168B PCI Express Gigabit Ethernet controller Unstable on Jaunty

2011-07-13 Thread DanieW
Yes, that RealTek driver worked nicely (.. for eth0), installation was very
easy: sudo bunzip2 r8168-8.024.00.tar.bz2 ;  sudo tar xvf r8168-8.024.00.tar;
cd r8168-8.024.00/; sudo ./autorun.sh
 but it did
Check old driver and unload it.
rmmod r8169
Build the module and install
[: 48: r8168: unexpected operator
Backup r8169.ko
rename r8169.ko to r8169.bak
Depending module. Please wait.
load module r8168
Completed.

and unfortunately I still need r8168 to work for my other NIC. (eth4)
I rename the .bak back again to .ko but modprobe r8169 says:
FATAL: Module r8169 not found.
So, I am now stuck here. (It also is not in blacklist in /etc/modprobe.d/

[Bug 347711] Re: Realtek RTL8111/8168B PCI Express Gigabit Ethernet controller Unstable on Jaunty

2011-07-10 Thread DanieW
This is getting worse.. Now with Natty 11.04 I can not even get it to work by
rebooting to Windows, disable and enable the NIC again and then reboot to
Ubuntu (like with 10.10) to have a working NIC. Driver with Fedora 10 or 11 was
much more stable.

2011-05-23 Thread DanieW
I also have it and don't have an encrypted file system.
And my system states: You are using Ubuntu 10.10
- the Maverick Meerkat
But I do have mounted windows partitions...
and also get
 gvfs-info -f ~/.gvfs/mount
Error getting info: Error getting filesystem info: No such file or directory

[Bug 14135] Re: Grub Install Failure

2007-11-21 Thread DanieW
We had a live CD installed Ubuntu 7.10 (feitsy) on a SATA (over a
previous dual boot FC6) - succesful (also the booting). But after I
allowed an automatic kernel update grub could not boot Ubuntu, only XP.
The problem was in /boot/grub/menu.lst Ubuntu is actually on sda3
(found by inspecting the mount points after booting the live CD) but all
the links in grub pointed to (hd0,0) instead of (hd0,2). After
correcting this all was fine again.
