Installing fonts-symbola (2.60-1 on focal) does not fix the problem for
me.

Can be be reproduced by running:

git init testrepo

[Bug 1882375] [NEW] Cinnamon custom keyboard shortcuts don't work until logout

2020-06-06 Thread Daniel Pirch
Public bug reported:

Description:Ubuntu 20.04 LTS
Release:20.04
cinnamon: 4.4.8-4
cinnamon-settings-daemon: 4.4.0-3

Steps to Reproduce:
- on Cinnamon desktop, run cinnamon-settings
- go to Keyboard > Shortcuts > Custom Shortcuts
- add a custom shortcut, or edit the command or shortcut of an existing custom
shortcut

Expected behavior:
the shortcut should become active immediately

Actual behavior:
the shortcut does not work until you log out and log in again

This seems similar to bug #1243532, but I'm reporting this as a new bug
now because it is cinnamon-specific. Other shortcuts (e.g. Close Window)
are updated immediately, this only affects custom shortcuts. I think
this bug appeared in 20.04.

[Bug 379060] [NEW] dynamic playlist not refilled when tracks are manually removed from it

2009-05-21 Thread Daniel Pirch
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: amarok

Usually, amarok always keeps the dynamic playlist filled; tracks are
automatically added while it advances through the playlist, such that
there are always a certain number of tracks ahead of the currently
played track.

However, when the user manually removes not yet played tracks from the
playlist, no new tracks are added until the current track has finished
playing. The expected behavior would be that new tracks are appended
immediately. IIRC this used to be the case in amarok 1.4.

If _all_ future tracks are removed, amarok even stops playback
completely after the current track, instead of just adding more tracks
to the playlist.

Tested in jaunty/amarok 2.0.2

[Bug 378636] [NEW] timer applet uses completely incorrect duration

Steps to reproduce:

[Bug 282995] Re: [intrepid] New 'quick search' is unable to search for dashes '-'

2009-03-18 Thread Daniel Pirch
There doesn't seem so be any relationship between the search term and
the search results.

For example, typing libsdl1.2 into the quick search box lists 134 mostly
unrelated packages, typing libsdl1.2-dev even returns more than 3600
packages.

Typing more than one word will also confuse the search. For example,
searching for xchat gnome (without quotes) results in 1373 packages.

[Bug 344144] [NEW] Amarok, KTorrent not maximized anymore after reopening from tray

2009-03-17 Thread Daniel Pirch
Public bug reported:

When you close the KTorrent or Amarok window, the application itself is
not closed, but instead minimized to its system tray/notification area
icon, and can be restored by clicking on that icon.

However, if the window was maximized before, the window is not maximized
anymore after restoring from tray, but has the size it had before it was
maximized. The expected behavior would be that the window is maximized
again after reopening.

A workaround is to pseudo-maximize the window by resizing it to fill the
whole screen, but this exposes metacity bug #217941

Tested using Ubuntu 8.10 with Gnome/metacity.

I'm not sure who causes this bug (metacity, some KDE library or the
individual applications)

I can confirm this in Intrepid, I was about to report it myself.

This is especially annoying when you resize non-maximized windows to
fill the whole screen (for example as a workaround for bug #344144).
These windows appear similar to maximized windows except for the tiny
rounded corners, but trying to close them the usual way will result in
another window being closed.

[Bug 337664] [NEW] Ignored articles included in group's unread count

2009-03-04 Thread Daniel Pirch
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: pan

Unread articles that are ignored, for example after selecting Articles
Ignore Thread, are still included in the number of unread articles for
that group.

The expected behavior would be that these articles are not counted, and
that a group in which all unread articles are ignored is not highlighted
in the group pane.

The way it is now, you have to manually select Mark group read each
time you have read all articles of a group, just because there are
unread but ignored articles left, even if they are not displayed in the
header pane and pressing the next-unread-article-key has no effect. This
is annoying for highly frequented newsgroups that you check for new
articles a lot, but have some threads ignored.

[Bug 106199] Re: [feisty] 50% of cpu when a page is waiting to load

2007-06-20 Thread Daniel Pirch
I noticed that the following conditions must be met for the problem to
occur:

1. The tab with the slow loading file must be selected (mentioned above)
2. The tab bar must be displayed (with default configuration, the tab bar will
not be shown if there is only one tab)
3. The tab must be the first (leftmost) tab, although it sometimes also happens
in other tabs. I can let the CPU usage go up and down by dragging the
concerning tab to the left and back.

It doesn't seem to depend on add-ons or settings, I tested it after
renaming away my ~/.mozilla directory.

[Bug 110764] Lock icons hide file icons in List view

2007-04-28 Thread Daniel Pirch
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

The lock icon displayed on top of icons of read-only files and folders
covers the complete icon in the list view. This makes it impossible to
distinguish between file types and even between files and folders by the
icon, you just see a big lock icon for any read-only object.

It is the same at any zoom level (the lock scales with the icon) or
desktop theme (changes just the picture, not its size)

[Bug 109926] Re: past file on nautilus not possible

2007-04-28 Thread Daniel Pirch
I agree that this lack of white area in the list view is annoying. If
there are enough files to fill the window, it it not possible to get the
usual folder context menu. Of course, all its items (like Paste, Create
folder, Properties (of the _folder_), Open in Terminal) can be found
somewhere else in the menu, but the point is that they are not where
they use to be.

Moreover, it is a problem when drag-and-dropping into a folder full of
subfolders, because the dropped file will end up in one of the
subfolders. This could keep users from using drag-and-drop at all even
without subfolders, because they may expect some unintended action when
dropping something on a file.

It would be more intuitive if just the first column or (better) only the
icon and the filename were associated with a file for its context menus
and drop target, and everything else as white area with the containing
folder. This is also how the Windows XP Explorer works, BTW.

[Bug 71751] Re: Title bar and history bar inconsistency with actual folder view

2007-04-28 Thread Daniel Pirch
I can confirm this bug on a fresh feisty installation on an Athlon 64
3200+ (but i386 installation) system that is otherwise fast enough.
Although I have to press the key very quickly. It happens with real
directories anywhere on a normal ext3 file system, both using icon and
list view. In addition to the window title bar and the location bar,
also the status bar, the toolbar (go-up button disabled on root
directory), and the side pane (information and tree view) reflect the
state of having gone up only one level when the main view has gone up
two.

I can reproduce this not only by using the backspace key, but also using
the Alt+up shortcut or the go-up button on the toolbar.

[Bug 110502] Run Script Manager button in lyrics tab not working

2007-04-27 Thread Daniel Pirch
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: amarok

When no lyrics script is enabled, the lyrics tab contains a Run Script
Manager button, but pressing this button has no effect. Starting the
script manager from the menu works.

Using Amarok 1.4.5 on relatively fresh Feisty install.

Another confirmation here, also on Edgy upgraded from Dapper. Running
`XLIB_SKIP_ARGB_VISUALS=1 nedit' works.

[Bug 68134] segfault when key record window is manually closed

2006-10-25 Thread Daniel Pirch
Public bug reported:

The Hit a key window that is used to record key events has no cancel
button, so a user might try to manually close it using the close button
on its title bar. This causes xbindkeys-config to segfault.

[Bug 65708] Re: Fonts not shown in dialogs window

2006-10-23 Thread Daniel Pirch
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 62300 ***

Removing ~/.gtkrc-1.2-gnome2 (as mentioned for bug 62300) solved it for
me, without a need for a ~/.gtkrc.mine. The issue in xfontsel is also
gone, I don't know if it was related.

[Bug 65708] Re: Fonts not shown in dialogs window

2006-10-21 Thread Daniel Pirch
I upgraded from dapper to edgy a while ago.

elixxir's workaround didn't work here, apparently the helvetica font is
broken: when I run xfontsel and select helvetica (or any other adobe
font), the preview area of the xfontsel window is not drawn at all (the
previously selected font or parts of overlapping windows remain).

However, using the following ~/.gtkrc.mine works for me:

style user-font
{
fontset=-bitstream-bitstream vera
sans-medium-r-normal-*-12-*-*-*-*-*-iso8859-15
}
widget_class * style user-font

[Bug 65774] Re: gnome-chess: No text in menus

2006-10-20 Thread Daniel Pirch
I can confirm this bug, the only visible text uses a special large font
(Black and White); any other text in menus/dialogs is missing.
Probably related to #65708

2006-10-18 Thread Daniel Pirch
I can confirm that. I don't see any text, neither in xmms nor in any
other gtk1 application (linpopup, xdialog, bittorrent-gui). It seems to
be caused by some upgrade within the last few days.

[Bug 62091] poweroff/reboot hangs with boot splash and dual-head X setup (edgy)

2006-09-23 Thread Daniel Pirch
Public bug reported:

Since upgrading to edgy, the system hangs on every reboot or poweroff
(screen goes blank and nothing happens) if X was run with a dual-head
configuration, even if I stop X first and try to reboot from the
console.

I'm using the open-source radeon driver on a Radeon X300 card.

This seems to be related to the boot splash screen; the hangups don't
happen if I disable it by removing the splash kernel parameter.
