[Bug 322909] Re: future gnome-volume-control has many use case regressions with move to Pulse Audio
With a ThinkPad X60, to avoid distortion when the Master volume is at 100% the PCM volume must be at most 68% (-3dB), otherwise clipping occurs. Historically, I always lowered the PCM to this level. The effect is manifest using the Multimedia Systems Selector output test to produce a sine wave, that makes clipping obvious. With the new gnome-volume-control in Karmic, that means that clipping occurs way before 100% (68%, I guess), which makes the system sound like shit. Editing /usr/share/pulseaudio/alsa-mixer/paths/analog- output.conf.common, section [Element PCM], to change volume = merge to volume = ignore works around the issue. Thanks a lot Daniel for the hint. Otherwise I would have had to remain on Jaunty. -- future gnome-volume-control has many use case regressions with move to Pulse Audio https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/322909 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 138006] Re: Memory leak in Run Application dialog
I am the original bug reporter. I cannot reproduce the leak on Jaunty (gnome-panel 1:2.26.0-0ubuntu7). There is no clear relation between this bug and the linked upstream bug. The upstream bug reports a number of leaks detected with valgrind, without explaining what user actions produced it. Examination of the valgrind stack traces in the upstream bug report does not suggest that the run dialog was involved (disclaimer: I am not familiar with this code, I am just using programmer common sense applied to the function names present in the stack traces). This bug should be unlinked from gnome-bugs #475476 and closed immediately. ** Changed in: gnome-panel Importance: Unknown = Undecided ** Changed in: gnome-panel Bugwatch: GNOME Bug Tracker #475476 = None ** Changed in: gnome-panel Status: New = Fix Released ** Changed in: gnome-panel (Ubuntu) Status: Triaged = Fix Released -- Memory leak in Run Application dialog https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/138006 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 339081] [NEW] Disable hinting with luxi fonts
Public bug reported: The Luxi fonts look great when unhinted, but they are just ugly when hinted. Maybe there is no hinting data in the font itself and freetype has to do auto-hinting, I do not know. Since Luxi does not take well to hinting, hinting should be disabled. [Bug 96700] Re: neon-config --la-file points to non-existent file
Catone, thanks for submitting a patch, but I think it is a bad solution, for at least two reasons. First, it's an Ubuntu-specific hack as a conditional. I think it unlikely to be merged upstream. If it's not going to be merged upstream, we do not need the conditional. If we remove the conditional, the second problem becomes apparent. This patch makes neon-config lie. When provided the --la-file option, that would print the location of a .so file. There are really only two sensible ways to go forward: 1. Include the .la file in the Ubuntu package of libneon. Why is it even removed in the first place? 2. Trick question. There's actually only sensible solution that will fix the cannot build upstream tarballs. -- neon-config --la-file points to non-existent file https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/96700 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 85935] Re: quickcam with kernel 2.6.17-11
Okay, that's a bit elliptic. I helped Martin debug a problem with his Quickcam Messenger: He installed the kernel module following the instructions on this page: http://doc.ubuntu-fr.org/quickcam And got the quickcam working well. Then he installed a system upgrade (presumably the kernel upgrade to 2.6.17-11). After the upgrade, he needed to run the quickcam.sh script after each reboot to create the /dev/video* devices. Using the (previously installed) 2.6.17-11 kernel, the quickam module was loaded without problem. Observed behaviour: after upgrading to the 2.6.17-11 kernel, running camorama from camorama-0.18ubuntu1 produces the following error message could not connect to video device (/dev/video0) please check connection. Then running the quickcam.sh script from http://home.mag.cx/messenger/source/qc-usb-messenger-1.6.tar.gz created the /dev/video* devices and allowed camorama to run successfully.
