[Bug 1393899] [NEW] LVM devices not created during boot
Public bug reported: During bootup, I get errors to say that the kernal cannot mount the filesystems that are on an LVM. When I choose M for manual recovery, it shows that no LVM devices have been created under /dev/mapper/* or /dev/dm-* It is easy to fix, and resume the boot by running vgchange -v -a y but it is annoying that the system will not boot without manual intervention, and if it happened to a less knowlegable user they would be stuck. [Bug 1055658] Re: Under load, libvirt fails to start VMs concurrently
I have tested the patch on a KVM cluster at my emplyer and based on a day or so of testing under heavy load, it fixes the bug for me. The cluster consists of 7 machines each running up to 8 VM jobs in parallel. Most are varous windows versions but some are Ubuntu Lucid. Each job runs for arround 2 minutes, before being killed and a fresh VM booted in it's place, so we have thousands of KVM invocations per day. Before we saw arround 5% of jobs would fail due to Libvirt errors. (mostly from get_domain_by_name from the perl bindings) This was reduced to 1.5% by making multiple retrys on the API call untill it worked. It now looks like the faliure rate is down to zero with the new version of libvirt. [Bug 734325] Re: Natty: Users should be able to easily turn off (disable) global menu
I agree with Roger Binns. This bug is not invalid. Like him I have my desktop spread across multiple monitors, and on that setup, a global menu would be a user interface disaster. It is a long way to move the mouse pointer from the window I am working in to the top of the screen. Global menus might make sense in the case of a single, fairly small screen (eg a netbook), but in the case of a power user with multiple large screens it is not a workable solution. At this point in the Ubuntu release cycle, I would normally be running the beta on a spare laptop, and looking forward to upgrading on final release day in a few weeks time. [Bug 611619] [NEW] Xorg crash when viewing a large PNG file in firefox
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg When viewing this PNG file in firefox: http://www.lightbluetouchpaper.org/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/pspvc2.png Or the page it is linked from: http://www.lightbluetouchpaper.org/2010/07/28/passwords-in-the-wild-part-ii-failures-in-the-market/ (Which appears to have the same image embedded but not scaled) firefox triggers an X-server crash. [Bug 222626] Re: ext3 partitions on external usb drives can only be written to by root
This looks to be the same problem as bug #121900 I would say it is a bug, and that it is incorect for the system to enforce the mandatory access control. The user has physical posseson of the USB drive, and even if he does not have root on the current ubuntu system, he could easily put it in another system that he does have root on, such as a live CD. [Bug 408077] [NEW] nvida Xorg binary drivers conflict with oss ati driver
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-ati I think there is some sort of undocumented conflict between the ati driver above, and the closed source nvidia drivers. My current version is 1:6.12.1-0ubuntu2 My system previously had an nVidia 9600 graphics card in it when I installed Ubuntu Januty. Today I replaced that card with an ATI x1650 graphics card. [Bug 408077] Re: nvida Xorg binary drivers conflict with oss ati driver
I know that the nvidia GL libaries conflict with the system ones. My point is, that the power of the debian packaging system should sort that out for me automatically by having an explicit conflict set so that when I install the ATI driver the nvida one is automatically purged. That is how conficts are supposed to work in debian packaging. What I don't want to do is spend an hour investigating when it could be done automatically, and I don't want the next person who swaps out an nvida card for an ATI one to go through the same pain either. ** Changed in: xserver-xorg-video-ati (Ubuntu) Status: Invalid = New -- nvida Xorg binary drivers conflict with oss ati driver https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/408077 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 262403] Re: [intrepid] System fails to start with linux 2.6.27.1.1
Bug has gone away. I did a dist-upgrade last night on my laptop, and it updated a big list of things, including the kernel to 2.6.27.2 (package linux- image-2.6.27-2-generic). When I rebooted with this new kernel everything worked. To confirm if it was the old kernel that was at fault, I rebooted with the offending 2.6.27.1.1 kernel. That worked as well, and I have no idea why. My first thought was that there was some other, non kernel package at fault, but if that was the case, then why did the 2.6.26-5 kernel boot OK. Perhaps the 2.6.27.* series of kernels had a dependency on another package (udev or suchlike?) that was broken for a time, but the 2.6.26.* kernel did not have that dependency so was unaffected. Anyway, you should probably mark this bug as invalid or suchlike, seeing as I am no longer able to reproduce this. -- [intrepid] System fails to start with linux 2.6.27.1.1 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/262403 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
