[Bug 397466]
For those that haven't yet noticed, looks like Kubuntu 14.04 LTS has this working: PAM KWallet git20140410 New single sign-on capabilities for the password manager KWallet. [Bug 1165420] Re: Unable to access indicators from HUD
Ok with the latest saucy builds 13.10 the hud is not searching the indicators yet. Hopefully it will be fixed in time for 13.10 because it's very useful to search diodon and other indicators. [Bug 1042824] Re: Doesn't include indicator-messages items anymore since the GMenuModel-port
Ok, the workaround for me is to restart unity after I've booted. So boot and autologin. Unity+indicator-multiload+indicator-cpufreq indicators+rsibreak+clipit+dropbx all autolaunch. [Bug 625793] Re: Keyboard layout automatically changes + 100% CPU usage [updated]
@Al Zhukov, I use g-s-d 2.32.0-0ubuntu3 version from Karl's PPA as well and I still have this bug with Different Layouts for different windows enabled. But the frequency of bug is much lower - now I see it once per day (actually I catched it 3 times after g-s-d ubuntu3 version installed). I restarted the system, and restarted g-s-d, so I don't think it's my mistake. Little update - If I kill g-s-d while bug appears and quickly start it again, the layout switching still continue. If I wait some time(~20 secs) before starting g-s-d again - the switching gone away. (using g-s-d 2.32.0-0ubuntu3 now) And, I agree with some of the previous posters - that's the *stopper* bug for everyone who use more than one layout. -- Keyboard layout automatically changes + 100% CPU usage [updated] https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/625793 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I can't use gnome-terminal hotkeys(in particular Ctrl+Shift+C and Ctrl+Shift+V) after update, Do not confirm. Still work for me with gnome-settings-daemon 2.32.0-0ubuntu3 Menu layout switching works(but still issues with menu labels sync). Will wait a couple of hours for the bug. As a quick resume on confitions (at least, on my experience): For the unpatched version, bug triggers on: 1) Occasionally - when 'Different layouts for different windows' option is enabled. 2) Under heavy system load(swapping, etc) - no matter, enabled or disabled the 'Different layouts..' option. And for the patched version (2.32.0-ubuntu2, at least): 1) Only under heavy load (with option 'Different layouts..' enabled in my single case). So, I'm pretty sure that occasional switching is gone away, but will test it more. -- Keyboard layout automatically changes + 100% CPU usage [updated] https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/625793 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

New update with video of the bug. I was running the system with 'Use different layouts for different windows disabled for a 5 days and everything was fine. So, to reproduce the bug I've enabled this option again and continued my normal work. The bug have appeared in a half of an hour and I captured it on the video with pocket HD camera. [Bug 625793] Re: Keyboard layout automatically changes
Yes, not only indicator text/flags does switch, but also layouts are switching, so if you have, for example two layouts - English and Russian, with letters 'q' and 'й' on the same key - and want to enter 'qq', the output will be 'qйqййqqййqйqq`. The indicator image(I use country flags images) also change it's image about 10-30 times per second, sometimes faster, sometimes slower - I guess it depends on system CPU usage. When the option 'Separate layout for each window' is disabled, the bug doesn't occur. (I tested it on two machines with latest Maverick beta). [Bug 629444] Re: 100 percent cpu usage and keyboard layouts switching automatically
I found three duplicates of this bug: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-input-evdev/+bug/636619 https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/630347 https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/indicator-application/+bug/633346 In my case(Maverick 10.10, latest updates) I have three layouts(en, ru, uk) and sometimes(once per hour or two) keyboard indicator starts cycling between layouts very fast. It makes impossible to enter any text, so I'd mark this as high importance bug. The gnome-settings-daemon eats a lot of memory(from 100 to 800 Megs from my observation) and use CPU heavily (up to 100% on one processor). Solution is to kill it and restart. I'll try to disable Separate layout for each window option as suggested above and check if it helps. -- 100 percent cpu usage and keyboard layouts switching automatically https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/629444 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 636619] Re: keyboard layout switching goes crazy
I've installed Maverick Beta on two machines and has this annoying bug as well. I have three layouts, and after some time the layout indicator start cycling layouts, as described in the top post. The gnome-settings- daemon eats 80-90% CPU. I also noticed CPU usage increase for indicator- application-service, but cannot tell for sure now. But when I kill both this processed and restart gnome-settings-daemon, the things return back to normal state. I tried to run gnome-settings-daemon with --debug and --no-daemon mode, but didn't get any suspicious output when this bug starts. -- keyboard layout switching goes crazy https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/636619 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 224636] Re: Asus brightness keys only toggle between the lowest two levels
My x5dij laptop has no light sensor like the asus m50. I've done the 'debugging' Scott Howard suggested in bug #368506, first without restarting video kernel module. keyevents reported by xev: keycode 232 = (keysym 0x1008ff03, XF86MonBrightnessDown), state = 0x0 keycode 232 = (keysym 0x1008ff03, XF86MonBrightnessDown), state = 0x0 keycode 233 = (keysym 0x1008ff02, XF86MonBrightnessUp), state = 0x0 keycode 233 = (keysym 0x1008ff02, XF86MonBrightnessUp), state = 0x0 I think this is what's supposed to be. Though in contrast to e.g. the letter keys, both events are reported instantly and not on key down/key up. That's the case with all Fn+ - keys. The events reported by acpi_listen are a bit strange: key brightness up produces: video LCDD 0086 hotkey ATKD 0011 007e and brightness down: video LCDD 0087 hotkey ATKD 0020 00fa for the brightness down key, every press that is precedes by the same keypress produces two hotkey-events: video LCDD 0087 hotkey ATKD 0020 00fb hotkey ATKD 0020 00fc That's not the case for brightness up. Over all I suppose this can't be our problem. So it may be a gnome- power-manager problem. The command dbus-monitor --session type='signal',interface='org.freedesktop.PowerManagement.Backlight' produces output only for the brightness down-key: signal sender=:1.25 - dest=(null destination) serial=102 path=/org/freedesktop/PowerManagement/Backlight; interface=org.freedesktop.PowerManagement.Backlight; member=BrightnessChanged uint32 0 And the output of gnome-power-manager --verbose --no-daemon is in the attached file. After reloading the video module, the behaviour changes to the following (beside brightness keys working): xev doesn't report the keyevents anymore. acpi_listen only produces ATKD events, and obviously the right ones showing change of brightness over the whole scale: hotkey ATKD 0020 005d hotkey ATKD 0020 005e hotkey ATKD 0020 005f hotkey ATKD 0020 0060 hotkey ATKD 0011 000b hotkey ATKD 0012 000a hotkey ATKD 0013 0009 hotkey ATKD 0014 0007 hotkey ATKD 0015 0005 hotkey ATKD 0016 0003 hotkey ATKD 0017 0002 hotkey ATKD 0018 0002 hotkey ATKD 0019 0002 hotkey ATKD 001a 0001 hotkey ATKD 001b 0001 hotkey ATKD 001c 0001 hotkey ATKD 001d 0001 hotkey ATKD 001e 0001 hotkey ATKD 001f 0005 hotkey ATKD 001f 0006 hotkey ATKD 001f 0007 hotkey ATKD 001f 0008 hotkey ATKD 002e 0001 hotkey ATKD 002d 0001 hotkey ATKD 002c 0001 hotkey ATKD 002b 0001 hotkey ATKD 002a 0001 hotkey ATKD 0029 0001 hotkey ATKD 0028 0002 hotkey ATKD 0027 0002 hotkey ATKD 0026 0002 hotkey ATKD 0025 0003 hotkey ATKD 0024 0005 hotkey ATKD 0023 0007 hotkey ATKD 0022 0009 hotkey ATKD 0021 000a hotkey ATKD 0020 0061 hotkey ATKD 0020 0062 hotkey ATKD 0020 0063 dbus-monitor doesn't show any output and gnome-power-manager --verbose --no-daemon doesn't either. -- Asus brightness keys only toggle between the lowest two levels https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/224636 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 368506] Re: display brightness asus; function keys not working
This bug isn't a duplicate of bug #224636. The laptop mentioned there has NVIDIA graphics and an ambient light sensor that messes up with brightness settings. The asus x5dij and b80a have no such sensor and use the Intel GMA 4500MHD. Therefore I unlinked the bugs. I posted some debugging information erroneously in #224636 that I'll repeat below. The conclusion I draw from them: 1. The bug is a kernel / video driver bug and has got nothing to do with gnome-power manager. (It occurs with kubuntu as well) 2. It still occurs with Karmic Alpha 2 Also theres the output of dmidecode, lspci and uname attached. As Scott did yesterday, I'd appreciate if a member of the kernel team can take a look at this bug again, since we're now sure it's a kernel bug. Now the debugging information (only the hotkey-troubleshooting, not for gnome-power-manager, see #224636): Gnome-power-manager and gnome-settings-daemon are killed. Keyevents reported by xev | sed -n 's/^.*state \([0-9].*\), keycode *\([0-9]\+\) *\(.*\), .*$/keycode \2 = \3, state = \1/p' : keycode 232 = (keysym 0x1008ff03, XF86MonBrightnessDown), state = 0x0 keycode 232 = (keysym 0x1008ff03, XF86MonBrightnessDown), state = 0x0 keycode 233 = (keysym 0x1008ff02, XF86MonBrightnessUp), state = 0x0 keycode 233 = (keysym 0x1008ff02, XF86MonBrightnessUp), state = 0x0 (In both cases the two events are reported instantly, not on key down / key up.) This is before reloading video module. After that xev doesn't report keyevents anymore. acpi_listen events are strange before reloading: key brightness up produces always (except for the counter, of course): video LCDD 0086 hotkey ATKD 0011 007e and brightness down: video LCDD 0087 hotkey ATKD 0020 00fa for the brightness down key, every press that is precedes by an brightness down keypress produces two ATKD-events: video LCDD 0087 hotkey ATKD 0020 00fb hotkey ATKD 0020 00fc That's not the case for brightness up. After reloading the events seem ok, as I am really able to access the whole brightness scale. LCDD events are absent: hotkey ATKD 0020 005d hotkey ATKD 0020 005e hotkey ATKD 0020 005f hotkey ATKD 0020 0060 hotkey ATKD 0011 000b hotkey ATKD 0012 000a hotkey ATKD 0013 0009 hotkey ATKD 0014 0007 hotkey ATKD 0015 0005 hotkey ATKD 0016 0003 hotkey ATKD 0017 0002 hotkey ATKD 0018 0002 hotkey ATKD 0019 0002 hotkey ATKD 001a 0001 hotkey ATKD 001b 0001 hotkey ATKD 001c 0001 hotkey ATKD 001d 0001 hotkey ATKD 001e 0001 hotkey ATKD 001f 0005 hotkey ATKD 001f 0006 hotkey ATKD 001f 0007 hotkey ATKD 001f 0008 hotkey ATKD 002e 0001 hotkey ATKD 002d 0001 hotkey ATKD 002c 0001 hotkey ATKD 002b 0001 hotkey ATKD 002a 0001 hotkey ATKD 0029 0001 hotkey ATKD 0028 0002 hotkey ATKD 0027 0002 hotkey ATKD 0026 0002 hotkey ATKD 0025 0003 hotkey ATKD 0024 0005 hotkey ATKD 0023 0007 hotkey ATKD 0022 0009 hotkey ATKD 0021 000a hotkey ATKD 0020 0061 hotkey ATKD 0020 0062 hotkey ATKD 0020 0063 ** Attachment added: bug_report_files.tar.gz http://launchpadlibrarian.net/29199248/bug_report_files.tar.gz -- display brightness asus; function keys not working https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/368506 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 399675] [NEW] brightness keys on Asus x5dij
Public bug reported: The brightness keys on my Asus x5dij show the following behauviour: Instead of of changing brightness over the whole available scale, they just toggle between the first two values possible. The values in /sys/devices/virtual/backlight/acpi_video0 are: brightness: 0 or 1, respectively actual_brightness: 0 max_brightness: 13 However, it's possible to change the brightness by hand by writing to /sys/devices/virtual/backlight/acpi_video0/brightness or the /equivalent /proc-file. A workaround is unloading/reloading the video kernel module, but after this the brightness-changing-OSD doesn't appear anymore and I guess there may be other issues, at least it's not the elegant way ;) Don't know what package to file against. This happens on my Asus x5dij, too. However, i think the issue with the brightness-keys has nothing to do with gnome-power-manager, since I incidentally discovered a workaround (see #399675). Also, setting the brightness by writing to /sys/devices/virtual/backlight/acpi_video0/brightness works perfectly. I assume the flickering occurs because before every brightness change the value is first set to the darkest and then to the desired one. [Bug 283652] Re: after backuppc server upgrade from hardy to intrepid, windows backups all fail
Ok - here is the fix/problem for this: The new version has the new smbclient package. backuppc(both versions shipped with 8.04 and 8.10) by default backs up smb pcs using /usr/bin/smbclient -N for INCR FULL and Restore commands. The new smbclient package if you use the -N switch it does not pass the password through hence the backups fail. Looks like that change from the old smbclient to the new one. FIX: Either smbclient package needs to be changed (that -N passes the password command still) or the default config.pl file shipped with the latest backuppc on intrepid needs to be modified and the -N of smbclient portion removed. Sorry to ask a question here, but why does the status say fix released when as far as I know the bug is still valid? Shouldn't this bug be reopened and confirmed? ps. [Bug 162371] openoffice opening files over network
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: openoffice.org When opening a file with konqueror or nautilus I think, you can not open up office documents over the network. A simple fix is to do the following: Look at your MIME settings in konqueror. There you will find that openoffice documents are set like: ooffice -writer %U if you change that to ooffice -writer %f the file will be copied to a temp directory before its opened. If it changes, konqueror is smart enough to ask if it should upload the new version. Why is this not the default? A bug has been reporting ages ago and yet this is still the case? Isn't this a one minute bug fix? Can it be done please? :) Thanks ** Affects: openoffice.org (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- openoffice opening files over network https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/162371 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
