[Bug 492568] Re: CTRL key not pased through when mouse app has checked show position of pointer is checked

2010-10-17 Thread Don Manyette
Hi Fabio,
The only explanation I can offer is that I am running 10.04.1 with the proposed
updates enabled. I have reproduced the condition this morning, and it is
repeatable. I hope the two attachments make it through.

[Bug 492568] Re: CTRL key not pased through when mouse app has checked show position of pointer is checked

2010-10-17 Thread Don Manyette
Hi Fabio,
Well, perhaps it has been fixed in that newer version. While it no longer
matters to me, because the only time it caused a problem was when I was running
Wine, and Photofiltre under Wine required it for some functions. But I do
believe that other folks could have a problem with it. And I have confirmed
it, again and again. It the locate function is enabled, the CTRL click
does absorb the CTRL key, but apparently ONLY under certain conditions. This
makes it even more strange. Because as you found, the CTRL+ALT+F1/F7 did
seem to work properly, but it is definitely absorbed in Evolution's address
selection, and that is a function that I DO use a lot, because my idiot ISP
will not allow mailing lists over 7 addresses, because they claim it is spam
prevention. So I don't really need it, but I'm sure some other conditions will
need it for other folks. I might add that dirty word Windoze does NOT absorb
CTRL key, as back when I was running Windoze, I did use Photofiltre, and it
worked properly.

[Bug 492568] Re: CTRL key not pased through when mouse app has checked show position of pointer is checked

2010-10-16 Thread Don Manyette
Hello Fabio
My error, I'm afraid. The original complaint was generated on a different
machine, and with Wine loaded. I no longer use wine, and so I tried a shortcut
on the terminal. Obviously, I was wrong. Your Ctrl+Alt+\F1/F7 proves that you
are correct, and the Ctrl Key is passed through as it should be. Sorry for the
misinformation.

2010-10-16 Thread Don Manyette
Hi Fabio
I'm afraid you can't close it. For a demonstrastion, enable the cursor locate
function, then, in Evolution, try to select some names for a new E-Mail. In
your address list, try and select some names by clicking on one, move down a
couple, and try to select another by using CTRL click. It shouild mark both
names, but it does not! Sorry

[Bug 654328] [NEW] md5sum program failing on multiple file downloads

2010-10-03 Thread Don Manyette
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: coreutils

Lucid 10,04.1 with all current and proposed updates. Specifically I
suspect the proposed coreutils package.

Assuming 10,04.1 Lucid files are still using the MD5SUM checksums, I
have downloaded 5 different files (CD DVD) and all checksums have
failed. I have never had this happen befor, even on a single file, much
less 5. Note that I am using the pre-released coreutils package
7.4-2ubuntu3. I even retried one file and had the bittorrent
(transmission) verify the downloaded file, and the checksum still came
up drastically different. Suspect the new coreutils download.

the dslreports site will not load the java applet at all. What am I
missing here. I'm assuming that I don't need to reload java just
because of a new blank profile? = = = Don

[Bug 325157] Re: I could not empty the trash folder

2010-05-31 Thread Don Manyette
While I cannot be certain, at least on my machine, it appears that one
of the recent downloads (perhaps one of the lib files) has cured this
problem. It was consistent on my machine, and now it has not appeared
for 5 days. Perhaps a poll of others affected could confirm or deny?

[Bug 519131] Re: Latest two versions of grub-common do not honor shift key.

2010-02-10 Thread Don Manyette
Specifics are as follows:
Karmic with all latest updates, and repo's set to all the proposed updates as
well. This loaded the kernel subversion 20. Found that the shift key no
longer entered the grub menu at boot time. Narrowed problem to grub-common,
which at this time had 3 versions available in synaptic. They were:
1.97-beta4-1ubuntu5 (karmic-proposed)
1.97-beta4-1ubuntu4.1 (karmic-updates)
1.97-beta4-1ubuntu3 (karmic)
Of these three possible files, the top two would not honor the shift key. When
I forced the bottom version of those three, the shift key was honored properly,
and all else now works well.

I'm very much a newbie, so I hope I've furnished the info you require.
If not, please ask. E-Mail in profile if it helps.

[Bug 491585] [NEW] Authentication box does not place cursor as do all other authentication boxes in Karmic

2009-12-02 Thread Don Manyette
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: software-center

the cursor in the correct field. The software center does not. (I
always start typing, then have to go back and place the cursor
correctly!)

[Bug 491585] Re: Authentication box does not place cursor as do all other authentication boxes in Karmic

2009-12-02 Thread Don Manyette
Hi Alex, I had no idea that it would be different under different
systems, but yes, it is consistent and reproducible. I admit I can't
imagine what would make that kind of difference. If it helps any, the
laptop is an Acer 5570Z, with a dual core T2080. If I can furnish any
further info, please just ask. E-mail is in my profile. But it is minor
and cosmetic.

[Bug 491585] Re: Authentication box does not place cursor as do all other authentication boxes in Karmic

2009-12-02 Thread Don Manyette
Hi Alex, well the plot thickens. I tried it on my desktop which is also
running 910 on a Intel Pentium IV. It also places the cursor correctly,
so this seems peculiar to my machine or processor. I do not have a clue
where this is leading, but I'm willing to try anything you can suggest.

[Bug 424693] Re: samba install error

2009-09-10 Thread Don Manyette
Hi Chuck, - I'm afraid I can't be of much help, since I've had to do a complete
reinstall of the system since that time, due to some other problems. And I
have not yet tried to install samba because the other problem has obviated the
need for the networking I was trying to accomplish.
I can try to install samba again if it will help in this matter. Would that be
of any help? - Don

Hi Chuck, Oooppss! I find that before I did the re-install, I did save

have attached it here. I will add I made several attempts at this, but
I'm pretty sure this was the latest one before I gave it up. Hope it is

This low volume problem appears to be prevalent on many laptops,
including my Acer with an intel chipset. However, jaunty does not have
a modprobe.d file. Can someone suggest another workaround where the
