[Bug 1548581] Re: using wacom tablet crashes the whole system in 16.04

2016-04-29 Thread Dusan
I noticed today this same bug. It is interesting that only plugging the
tablet doesn't crash the system, but when I move tablet pen to the field
(generate input) it immediately crashes and only reboot can unfreeze it.

Worked flawlessly on 15.10.

[Bug 1346687] [NEW] Ubuntu 14 KVM Guest I/O Elevator Non-configurable

2014-07-21 Thread Dusan Baljevic
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu 14.04 guest runs pretty much standard standard configuration: KVM
hypervisor, ACPI and APIC enabled, virtio disk bus, raw storage
format...

While running this project, I am also involved in testing SSD drives
across different Linux distributions and their support for discard
option (TRIM).

To cut the story short, Ubuntu-based KVM guest did not set any scheduler
on the boot disk vda):

# lsblk -io KNAME,TYPE,SCHED,ROTA,DISC-GRAN,DISC-MAX
KNAME TYPE SCHED ROTA DISC-GRAN DISC-MAX
sr0 rom deadline 1 0B 0B
vda disk 1 0B 0B
vda1 part 1 0B 0B
vda2 part 1 0B 0B
vda5 part 1 0B 0B
dm-0 lvm 1 0B 0B
dm-1 lvm 1 0B 0B

That is in stark contrast with other distributions running almost
identical KVM guest configuration (with the exception of the root file
system using BTRFS instead of EXT4 on SUSE).

Oracle Linux 6.5:

# lsblk -io KNAME,TYPE,SCHED,ROTA,DISC-GRAN,DISC-MAX
KNAME TYPE SCHED ROTA DISC-GRAN DISC-MAX
sr0 rom deadline 1 0B 0B
vda disk deadline 1 0B 0B
vda1 part deadline 1 0B 0B
vda2 part deadline 1 0B 0B
dm-0 lvm 1 0B 0B
dm-1 lvm 1 0B 0B

OpenSUSE 13.1:

# lsblk -io KNAME,TYPE,SCHED,ROTA,DISC-GRAN,DISC-MAX
KNAME TYPE SCHED ROTA DISC-GRAN DISC-MAX
sr0 rom cfq 1 0B 0B
vda disk cfq 1 0B 0B
vda1 part cfq 1 0B 0B
vda2 part cfq 1 0B 0B
dm-0 lvm 1 0B 0B
dm-1 lvm 1 0B 0B

Indeed, checking elevator capabilities for boot disk on Ubuntu KVM guest
showed:

# cat /sys/block/vda/queue/scheduler
none

Other Linux distributions show more options:

# cat /sys/block/vda/queue/scheduler
noop deadline [cfq]

As well, attempts to change the elevator on Ubuntu guest fail. For
example:

# echo noop /sys/block/vda/queue/scheduler

# echo $?
0

# cat /sys/block/vda/queue/scheduler
none

Setting it globally in /etc/default/grub and updating it via update-
grub2 fails too.

In the meantime, to automate check of elevators (schedulers) and discard
support for SSD drives and thin-provisioned volumes on Linux, I wrote
simple Perl script:

http://www.circlingcycle.com.au/Unix-sources/Linux-check-IO-scheduler-
and-discard-support.pl.txt

Part of the results on RHEL 6.5 server would look like:

INFO: I/O elevator (scheduler) and discard support summary
INFO: Hard Disk sdb configured with I/O scheduler cfq
INFO: SSD sda configured with I/O scheduler deadline supports discard
operation
INFO: Hard Disk sdc configured with I/O scheduler cfq
INFO: Hard Disk sdi configured with I/O scheduler cfq
INFO: Hard Disk sdh configured with I/O scheduler cfq

The Ubuntu KVM guest runs latest paches:

Linux ubuntu14-vm2.circlingcycle.com.au 3.13.0-24-generic
#47-Ubuntu SMP Fri May 2 23:30:00 UTC 2014 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

[Bug 648303] Re: After last update. When i open any folder by places on app. panel - any folder in menu, this action every time open Rhythmbox, but not any folder. Thanx

2010-11-28 Thread Dusan Dudomat
I have solved this problem with.
In ~/.local/share/applications/mimeapps.list file:

sudo gedit~/.local/share/applications/mimeapps.list

and adding two lines:

inode/directory=nautilus-folder-handler.desktop
x-directory/normal=nautilus-folder-handler.desktop

after saving this, working all fine.

[Bug 614367] [NEW] Can't launch Gnome terminal with keyboard shortcut

2010-08-06 Thread Dusan Maliarik
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-terminal

When I set a keyboard shortcut in Keyboard shortcuts preferences (or as
a compiz command with shortcut), and then try to launch it using this
shortcut, windows pops up for a fraction of second, then disappears. I'm

[Bug 614369] [NEW] Unable to remove kayboard switcher from gnome-panel

2010-08-06 Thread Dusan Maliarik
Public bug reported:

I'm unable (I don't know how) to remove kayboard switcher from gnome-
panel. I just upgraded to latest ubuntu, I never used this keyboard
switcher and it suddenly appeared in my notification area. I can't
remove it because it's not an applet, and I don't know how to get rid of
it. pgrep-ing for some random keyboard related terms gave no results.
How are users supposed to get rid of it if they want to?

If not, it should be. It's much easier for user to identify app/message

Does libindicate have an interface for this (icons) ?

[Bug 252661] Re: same preference for multiple pointing devices

2009-03-04 Thread Dusan Maliarik
You can disable touchpad while typing, and set timeout. So for example,
touchpad is disabled while typing, and it will reenable itself after 3
(you choose) seconds after keyboard inactivity. There is utility called
syndaemon for this, unfortunately there's no GUI for this. But it could
be part of new mouse configuration dialog, if somebody starts working on
this.

[Bug 252661] Re: same preference for multiple pointing devices

2009-03-03 Thread Dusan Maliarik
This is still issue and it is becoming more relevant each day. Vendors
of pointing devices (mouses) are switching to laser technology which
also make mouses more sensitive as they have higher resolution.

Again common case here is using notebook with mouse, where we need to
set treshold (sesitivity) for each one separately. It is possible to
solve this by setting values in xorg.conf. But if you are using
bluetooth mouse with no stable device file, it's even trickier.

I have to mention that XFCE has already done this in their mouse
settings dialog. (see attachment)

I can confirm this behaviour in hardy. I don't know if it caused by
gnome menu, but sometimes the panel refuses to hide, sometimes it helps
to click/focus it and then move focus away. then the panel hides. but
sometimes it won't help. this should be fixed as this is basic optional
behaviour one would expect from all panels, docks, etc.

I removed new symbolic link, restored old one, followed Alberto's
advices but I still don't have no shadows at all.

I am working on 64bit Hardy and kernel is still -16 on 64 bit. Is this
related to why new fix does not work here?

[Bug 186382] Re: [nvidia 169.xx] gtk window decorator somtimes draws decoration ugly or not at all

2008-05-13 Thread Dusan Popovic
Can somebody make step by step explanation for a newbee:

I did that ln command and it fixed my 'no shadows at all issue'. I don't
have hardy proposed enabled. It is enough to enable it or I must delete
link first? Thanks, I do want to test this :)

[Bug 186382] Re: [nvidia 169.xx] gtk window decorator somtimes draws decoration ugly or not at all

2008-05-13 Thread Dusan Popovic
Ok, I removed new symlink and returned old one from my backup so now I
have windows without any shadows again.

I do have envyng installed. Do I need to remove it first or this patch
works for for hardy with or without envyng? I am not sure about this but
would like to perform a correct test. Thanks.

Can we expect official fix soon?

[Bug 219499] [NEW] VirtualBox ose-modules-generic 2.6.24-16 kernel

2008-04-19 Thread Dusan Popovic
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: virtualbox-ose

In hardy RC there is 2.6.24-16 kernel set by default. Virtualbox ose-
modules-generic has support for -15 kernel making it very hard for
newbees to use this app.

Can you please keep ose-modules requirements in sync with active kernel,
I had to install -15 kernel too and use insmod as temporary fix.

Thank you.
