Hi All, No LSB modules are available. Distributor ID: Ubuntu Description:Ubuntu 17.10 Release:17.10 Codename: artful Spent a few hours trying to resolve the issue; I managed to resolve it by doing the following. ls /etc/ | grep *blue* if bluetooth folder exists then change IdleTimeout on input.conf to value 0 as seen below: # Set idle timeout (in minutes) before the connection will # be disconnect (defaults to 0 for no timeout) IdleTimeout=0 if bluetooth dir does not exist under /etc then execute: apt get install tlp I also disabled TLP (power management) by editing /etc/default/tlp , example of change in file below: # Set to 0 to disable, 1 to enable TLP. TLP_ENABLE=0 I restarted both Network-manager and bluetooth by executing: systemctl restart network-manager bluetooth I of course am under the opinion that running the these two commands resolved the issue: sudo apt get install tlp #installed tlp and editing the tlp conf file under /etc/default/ and turning it off. Let me know what the issue is a result of; it will be interesting to know root cause or how power management might be affecting bluetooth. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1589008 Title: Bluetooth freezing video playback In Ubuntu/Kubuntu 16.04 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1589008/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Yes i see a lot of user using docks lately and having Launcher in "always hide" mode. It kind of beats the purpose what Unity tried to do and in my opinion did until Ubuntu 12.04. [Bug 930148] Re: Dodge windows is down but what about making the launcher autohide only on maximised apps ?
After using Ubuntu 12.04 for some time i don't find any real benefit that would be directly connected with removal of Dodge Windows and Unity 3D in Ubuntu 11.10 offered user better experience. I hope at least developers are happy now because they don't have to spend any more time working on the feature? Always hide mode was never a real option and now sure we can look at launcher all the time on the desktop and the fun thing is that if user uses wallpaper of certain color then the whole launcher turns in some fugly color and when user maximizes program window not only the launcher is still there the fugly color is "fun" to watch too, probably the result of the fact now the developers have more time to work on things that matter the most to the users? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/930148 Title: Dodge windows is down but what about making the launcher autohide only on maximised apps ? [Bug 930148] Re: Dodge windows is down but what about making the launcher autohide only on maximised apps ?
@Danillo If script would be implemented in third party "tweak tool" then before that multi screen support should be implemented. Next natural step would be implementing something like this inside Unity. Script is more like "proof of concept" and something that can be tested in real world on how exactly this idea would work. I use the script and i can't imagine i would not be able to use Unity like this anymore and that is why i shared my script for other to use. But i don't think it's optimal solution. -Probably detection of maximized windows could be done differently. -Somebody with experience in Unity/Compiz development could implement something like this to be "bulletproof" in all scenarios not just Single Screen / Multi Workspaces. -Moving the icons on desktop and produced "flickering" is not optimal. Icons should not change position but i can't control that with my script. In past Unity 2D used "strut" but it does not anymore and in Unity 3D it would not work anyway. Icons on the desktop should always stay in "newer hide" mode. -There is one question on how should windows behave when launcher hides/shows. I think they could behave exactly the same as they do in "never hide" mode. User could manually move the window inside launcher area when launcher is hidden but when using "aero snap" and other Compiz windows alignment features they should respect "never hide" mode. This would probably take away a lot of complexity in the code and "flickering" of resized windows too and it makes sense too. If u maximize at least one window then there isn't much sense in "tiling windows" in front of it. But if developers don't have much troubles in implementing different behavior then sure why not. There always is another (tiny) fact. Users actually would like to use this mode and i do believe users want something like this by default. And of course old "Dodge Behavior" would work too. I am willing to help further but ATM i don't have necessary skills to make anything beyond this script. I see the script has got some "media attention" and maybe i can trade "some fame" for "some love" from somebody making this happen inside Unity. Imagine the one that pulls this off well be famous! :D -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/930148 Title: Dodge windows is down but what about making the launcher autohide only on maximised apps ? [Bug 930148] Re: Dodge windows is down but what about making the launcher autohide only on maximised apps ?
I thought about this again and i think "manual method" could work but basically two thoughts prevailed. -Dodge Windows was unique feature of Unity Shell used by many users and that alone is big enough reason not to remove it. -I use my script to hide the launcher when at least one windows is maximized. If i achieved this in few days time and it is robust and works reliable then there really isn't any excuse this could not be easily implemented and maintained in Unity. This two options are the way to go. In the end i hope you won't "insist" just to "insist" this should not be available by default and common sense will prevail! -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/930148 Title: Dodge windows is down but what about making the launcher autohide only on maximised apps ? [Bug 899858] Re: regression in gvfs to connect/browse using obex
"sudo hciconfig hci0 sspmode 0" This was not needed (on fully updated Precise). "gvfs-bin_1.11.4-0ubuntu2+jml1_amd64.deb" I assumed this package was uploaded twice and just used the first one. Installation of packages went without any problems and then i rebooted the PC. I tested all 3 GUI options: -Browse Files on Device ... -Browse files ... -Bluetooth Settings ... -> Devices -> Browse files They all worked the same way and opened up Nautilus with mounted device in root folder of device. I tested: -Copy to Desktop -Drag & Drop to Desktop -Move to Desktop -Copy from Desktop and paste to folder on device -Drag & Drop from Desktop to folder on device -Cut from Desktop and paste to folder on device Everything worked fine and i had to confirm every step on the device. When moving files from Device -> Desktop i was asked to allow deleting file from device after the move was made. Basically everything works fine. Then i tested opening files on the device. Pictures, PDF and text files everything opened normally on Ubuntu. The only exception i found was .odf file. Probably LibreOffice related BUG. Problems i noticed was: 1.) If you want to paste file to device and wait too long "Not authorized" error occurs. I think this is normal behavior but maybe interval should last few seconds longer. 2.) If file on device is of the same name as file on the location it will be sent this will fail and "Another operation in progress" error will occur and nothing i mentioned above will work after that. Solution is to unmount the device in Nautilus and start again. 3.) If opening file directly from device in Gedit this does work but saving the file will fail. This is just something i noticed and it's probably Gedit related. Basically everything works fine and i hope to see this fix in regular updates soon! [Bug 930148] Re: Dodge windows is down but what about making the launcher autohide only on maximised apps ?
I am happy with my script it does the job but "i have one KISS solution for the masses" that i thing it could work: On single monitor environments: 1.) "Tap" somewhere on empty space or predefined "spot" on the Launcher puts the Launcher in autohide mode. 2.) "Tap" again and voila it's in never hide mode. Easy stuff isn't it? I know this is done manually but i think it could work good for most scenarios user wants. The only issue i see is should the icons on the desktop move or not. I think they should not or/and i will leave this to debate. On multi monitor environments: 3.) "Per Launcher" setting could be used if Launcher would be used on all displays or fourth option would be used: 4.) One launcher only on primary display with option 1 and 2 available. "so basically you want to dictate to those of us who actually use multiple workspaces as an organizational tool, how we use them?" Yes my thought exactly of what you tried to do and I hope you see it now. I just had to turn the table. "I asked you a simple question in an effort to try to understand your point of view how do you use multiple workspaces that is different than having only one?" I gave you a simple answer: "I doubt users don't want a list of all windows of opened application from all workspaces and rather do that manually. Switch between workspaces and play hide & seek." If you can't understand this then fine you can't. "you reply by evading, changing the subject or trying to otherwise prevent more options from being possible for those of us who want them why are you on this bug?" No i gave you simple answer ten times in a row and you just can't comprehend it. And i am here because this new behavior is regression for multi workspace environments. "I'm here hoping to have 12.04 be usable for my needs" And up until 12.04 it was usable for me. Now it's not anymore because i don't see any point in playing hide & seek. Multi workspace environment just don't have any point if the Shell doesn't know anything else than what is going on on single workspace. This new behavior is basically BUG or regression call it what ever you want to call it for multi workspace environment perspective. "I'm trying to understand other ways workspaces can be used" I don't, because i do understand what application spread should do in multi workspace environment. It should show windows from all workspaces not hide them. "my impression is that you don't have any use for the extra layer of organization that having more than one workspace provides" Well you are wrong. I just don't use PC for limited predefined number of tasks and i don't think often how exactly my task should be placed across different workspaces. I have button for this that i press you know and it does the job for me and doesn't hide things i expect to see from me. That's all. "it appears that ubun is trying to cater to a different set of users than had been the base the real question is how to have a product that pays the bills & grows" I doubt users don't want a list of all windows of opened application from all workspaces and rather do that manually. Switch between workspaces and play hide & seek. That's all. But i said before and i will say again and i think the specification mentioned for future Unity release confirms this. This is basically first step to single screen/single workspace support and does not have much to do with this how you or i use multiple workspaces. [Bug 689733] Re: Application icons should only display windows from the current workspace in the window spread
"Ego could you describe what you mean by using workspaces more dynamically?" Pressing the button on the launcher and to have all opened instances of the same application summoned in front of me. The way it worked until Ubuntu 12.04. I don't feel the need doing that instead of the Shell and to think where exactly windows are opened and i usually start after each boot with one workspace and based on my needs of that time extend the workspace and by no means i think what the "structure" of tasks on specific workspace should be i rather do something more useful instead and when i want to find the window i expect i will find it by pressing the button and not by having "mind map" printed in front of me on paper or set as wallpaper... I see we will get new behavior in the future release: http://design.canonical.com/2012/03/task-switching-in-ubuntu-and-a -introduction-to-the-spread/ I see that workspaces will be disabled by default. Kind of expected yes, but when enabled i found this: "The user want to get hold of the Inkscape document which was previously displayed on their external display. The user double-clicks on the Inkscape icon in the Launcher to show the application spread:" "As there are no Chromium windows on the current workspaces to bring into focus, the Workspace Switcher is invoked, offering the option to either switch to an existing Chromium window, or create a new one:" This is OK but: -If one instance of the application is already opened on current workspace then i guess user will get the result from this "fixed bug"? -If two or more will be opened on current workspace application spread will occur but only for the windows from the current workspace? Too bad I wouldn't mind if application spread would list windows from other workspaces too. [Bug 689733] Re: Application icons should only display windows from the current workspace in the window spread
I think user should not have to think where exactly windows are opened. Shell should do that instead of the user. I use different workspaces: - Sometimes different workspace is used for separate task. -Sometimes i just use different workspaces because i just want to have windows maximized on some of them. Then i would not switch workspace just to open terminal to look at something quickly would i if i would have "terminal group" on other workspace? -Sometimes i have different tasks on different workspaces and for each task group different programs are used but still they could repeat them self across different workspaces but be used for different tasks? Then i would have to do a lot of thinking where something i opened is wouldn't i? - What i am saying is thinking in a way only "one scenario" is used when workspaces are used is not true. There are a lot more scenarios used when workspaces are used. My solution to this problem would be: 1.) Use bias sorting by default for everything (Alt + Tab and Window Spread and inside Alt + Tab groups of the same program too). Everything should be "bias driven". 2.) Use more clear visual distinction of windows on the current workspace and from other workspaces. -Position: Windows from other workspaces would always be at the end. -Size: Windows from other workspaces should be half sized. This would prevent clutter to. -Color: Windows for current workspace would have orange edge and from other workspaces they would be gray. Both bias sorting and color distinction is something already implemented in Unity AFAIK and it does work. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/689733 Title: Application icons should only display windows from the current workspace in the window spread To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ayatana-design/+bug/689733/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

It should act as never hide mode and only hide the launcher when at least one window is maximized. If in the future somebody would decide "aero snap" should use launcher area too and windows should resize then great if not OK too but probably there would be some pressure form users to add some complexity? But this decision is something that can still be made in the future if this mode does not get completely removed but until then it would work just as never hide mode does and only hide the launcher when at least one window is maximized. [Bug 930148] Re: Dodge windows is down but what about making the launcher autohide only on maximised apps ?
I wanted to see this proposal by my self and test it on my PC and with some help of fellow Ubuntu users i managed to do this: http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=11743771&postcount=6 Properly configured Bash script started at session login (Startup Applications) that detects maximized windows and hides/shows the launcher accordingly. This solution only works on single screen/workspace but it demonstrates this proposal! If i would have enough experience i would probably try to use data from Window manager. Both Metacity and Compiz have support for detecting maximized widows (_NET_WM_STATE, ATOM[])? http://standards.freedesktop.org/wm-spec/wm-spec-1.3.html Will this still be there when migration to Wayland is done? Bit to technical for me yes. Two things i think this implementation should consider: First: Launcher should act the same as Dodge Windows does it should detect maximized windows "per screen/workspace". I don't know how this is done but "per screen/workspace" detection is a must. Second: What happens when launcher hides? 1.) I don't think launcher should Dodge to Windows that are not maximized. It should act exactly the same as never hide mode does and only be hidden when one or more window(s) are maximized. There is nothing hard to understand here for the user it does exactly what it is supposed to to if it does this reliably? 2.) Desktop icons should not jump to the edge. They should stay exactly in the same position from never hide mode. 3.) This one is a bit tricky. What should happen to the windows on the desktop. Should they be moved around on triggering hide/show and should they be "positioned inside launcher area" when launcher is hidden and "aero snap" is used? Maximized application should never minimize inside launcher area. They should always respect never hide mode. For "aero snap" i don't know. If it's trouble then no user should not be able to position open windows with "aero snap" inside launcher area. It should act the same as never hide mode does. And this solution brings another benefit. It was asked in this topic if this will be implemented: https://bugs.launchpad.net/unity/+bug/930148/comments/15 Useful feature isn't it? Suggestion i made this would already be implemented? User would not be bothered with settings. If user wants the whole screen just press maximize button else there is nothing wrong if the launcher is on the screen. True? And please don't say user will get confused if Unity Shell will not be d*mb. It will be "d*mb enough" when he tries it but later on if he choose to use it he will start to like this mode and be bragging to his/her friends about it! -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/930148 Title: Dodge windows is down but what about making the launcher autohide only on maximised apps ? If the users are so confused about Dodge Windows alike functionality why do we the users want it so bad? Usually the users that complain the most about Ubuntu are doing it because they will not use Ubuntu and they need excuse and they will still find it. I tested a bit these new "single workspace" approach. I see two problems: User has to know where open windows are and switch to that workspace/screen. This leads to a lot off unnecessary seek/hide operations and additional burden on the user. User selects Quit in Quicklist and it closes all running instances of application across all workspaces and there is no indication some open instances from this group of application exist because user can't summon them all on working space. The only way to find out is to switch among all available workplaces to find out if there are any opened windows belonging to this group of applications. [Bug 689733] Re: Application icons should only display windows from the current workspace in the window spread
That would be great! Ability to summon all opened instances of the same application in working workspace and to switch between them fast is superb and if this ability won't be lost in Unity Shell and it will stay supported i would really appreciate it. Now if only Dodge Windows alike functionality would not be lost (entirely) and would exist as the third supported option. Unity Launcher being switch on/off if at leas one windows is maximized and in all other situation to act exactly the same as Never hide mode does (simplified approach that enables both "lean code" and "lean Unity Shell too"...
[Bug 689733] Re: Application icons should only display windows from the current workspace in the window spread
Wasn't this addressed with biass alt-tab sorting setting? I respect different opinions and i usually find arguments are valid on both sides when strong opinions emerge about something. Couldn't biass alt-tab sorting be improved? For example it could be removed and replaced with option Only show windows for current workspace? It is hard to just agree on removal of flagship feature. Past few days two were removed. Dodge Windows and this one. For average user (not just first timer) these loses turns Unity Shell in Shell: -That doesn't use available workspace as good as it could and it did until now. -That doesn't allow fast work flow trough different workspaces and screens like it did. This is why in my opinion strong opinions emerged. Great value, being lost.

@Michał Gołębiowski yes, i am trying to figure out which package is doing this. i will report once i get it pinned down. @Tom Rauthe i have purged all ubuntuone packages, did a reboot, and it DID fix the emblems. maybe try another reboot. if that doesn't work, try to change to another icon theme, then back to the Humanity theme...that might do it. -- Entire Hard Drive Marked as ubuntuone-synchronized https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/450112 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 450112] Re: Entire Hard Drive Marked as ubuntuone-synchronized
@Michał Gołębiowski same here: flash drive, external/internal hard drive, cd/dvd, all have iPod icon. i don't think there is a separate bug for this..nothing came up with a search for "ipod icon", "filesystem icon", or "osx icon". switching to a different icon theme takes care of the ubuntuone checkmark emblem, but it does not solve the iPod icon issue...so i think it is a totally separate bug. -- Entire Hard Drive Marked as ubuntuone-synchronized https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/450112 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 450112] Re: Entire Hard Drive Marked as ubuntuone-synchronized
I can confirm that the most recent update causes this. There was an update to the human icon theme and after a reboot, the ubuntuone checkmarks appeared. also, it shows up on the other partitions in the HDD (for example, my OSX partition also has all the checkmarks). there are other mess-ups in the icon theme: the CD/DVD Drive icon shows an iPod, along with my OSX partition icon.
