[Bug 1885459] Re: Nautilus does not ask for ssh login credentials

2020-06-29 Thread Elias Aarnio
This is a false alarm, at least partly. If username is defined like
sftp://u...@some.server.org, everything works OK. It is likely that in
the live USB test case the server I use checks username from LDAP. As I
did not specify user name and the default "ubuntu" was used, connection
got denied. On another test server I did get the user/password window
even when I did not specify username as above.

[Bug 1885459] [NEW] Nautilus does not ask for ssh login credentials

2020-06-28 Thread Elias Aarnio
Public bug reported:

When trying to connect a server using ssh:// or sftp:// no user/password
information is asked and I get error saying "Access Denied".

Expected behaviour: user/password would be asked.

I tested also with 20.04 live USB - same behaviour.

Same erroneus action also when trying to use Déja-Dup over SSH: no login
information is asked -> Access Denied -message.

SSH connection to the same server using CLI works OK on both installed
system and Live session.

[Bug 10910] Re: Default page size for printing is letter

2015-10-15 Thread Elias Aarnio
I tested my hypothesis above. I made a Live USB stick with space to save
settings and updates. I used ubuntu-14.04.2-desktop-amd64.iso. After
changing languge settings to finnish and installing all localization
files I opened Firefox for the first time. Paper size in firefox was
letter, not A4 as it is supposed to be.

Then I changed the variable print.postscript.paper_size to iso_a4 in
Firefox config, closed and reopened Firefox and checked if the paper
size change persisted. It did, also it was still A4.

After that I did sudo apt-get update followed by sudo apt-get upgrade.
After that and restarting Firefox the paper size was still A4.

I think this proves my guess was wrong.

There is something else that changes the paper size _back_ to letter
size from A4 because this happens to me quite often.

[Bug 10910] Re: Default page size for printing is letter

2015-10-14 Thread Elias Aarnio
The bug still exists in Thunderbird (not sure about Firefox). Every time
Thunderbird is updated the paper size is changed to letter even if the
user uses locale for which the right size is A4.

Check out this:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=889088=12423297#post12423297

Could it be the case that when Thunderbird update is installed, update
process does not check at all what is 1) in the locale or 2) what value
Thunderbird config variable print.postscript.paper_size has? This would
explain the nasty behaviour.

I would really love to see this fixed. This is again a good example how
really important things are just broken. When a fresh Linux user bumps
into things like this, he/she is very likely to go the proprietary way.

A year and a half and no solution. This is sad.

It is not a bug in Flash Player. If you read through all the reports you
see that the settings freeze problem is not a problem with Gnome desktop
for example. IMHO the bug is in Unity.

Try installing Gnome desktop, package gnome-shell. That did the trick im
12.10.

Christopher Barrington-Leigh kirjoitti 8.4.2013 17:19:

Installed gnome-shell on my latest 13.04 laptop. Logged in using gnome
fallback -- no effects. Flash dialog DOES NOT WORK still.

I can tab through the buttons in the flash dialog, e.g. to highlight accept.
Pressing space or enter does nothing.
If I then click on Accept, it simply becomes unhighlighted.

This is true under default Unity and under gnome fallback.

(Desperately in need of a workaround)

[Bug 865672] Re: Adobe Flash Player Settings dialog does not respond to mouse clicks

2013-04-02 Thread Elias Aarnio
As Unity 2D has been removed from 12.10 there is a need for another
workaround. I found out that the flash player settings dialog works in
Gnome classic (No effects) -session in 12.10 64 bit Ubuntu.

Does this not hint that the problem is in 3d acceleration?

In any case this is a bug that IMHO must be fixed before leaving the
working desktop alternatives out of the distribution. This bug means
that Ubuntu is inusable for people who host or attend with voice and
camera web conferences held with Flash based software like OpenMeetings
or Adobe Connect.

Adobe has really bad reputation for supporting Linux. This is a bug
where FLOSS community can show that it is not that bad the other way
around.

[Bug 1088383] [NEW] Network manager does not not autoconnect 3g in 12.04

2012-12-10 Thread Elias Aarnio
Public bug reported:

There is a selection in Network Manager mobile settings saying connect
automatically. Before this setting has really done what it says:
connected a mobile connection automatically.

In 12.04 this is broken: user has to connect manually. The I believe
this is a mistake and the setting should connect the computer to 3g
network right after boot/login.

The version on NM I am using is 0.9.4.0-0ubuntu4.1

Distro version: Ubuntu 12.04.1 LTS

There are workarounds like this one: http://www.thefanclub.co.za/how-to
/how-auto-connect-ubuntu-1204-gsm-mobile-broadband-connection-on-boot-
startup-service

There should be no need for workarounds if Network Manager would work
like it is supposed to. The wanted behaviour, autoconnect, has been
working in previous versions.

[Bug 620325] [NEW] Missing translations in OpenOffice

2010-08-19 Thread Elias Aarnio
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: openoffice.org-l10n-fi

There are some missing translations in OpenOffice.org v. 3.2.0.10 on
Lucid. For example the popup menu View - Zoom is in English in totally
Finnish system. See attached screenshot.

The reason for this would be good to find. The problem does _not_ exist

1) in Fedora 13 + openoffice.org-core-3.2.0-12.25.fc13
2) in OpenOffice.org version 3.4. official test packages
3) Latest Debian unstable with OOo 3.2.1

Also dialogs.po file that contain the texts has been translated by the
OOo localization team.

This fault can be replicated using german, estonian and swedish
translations. The zoom menu is shown in english. Therefore I do not know
what package is the actual reason for this behaviour.-

These facts hint that there is a problem how OOo translations are
handled by Ubuntu. Is there something I could do to track this down?

Should the translations in Ubuntu be from official sources?

[Bug 129631] Re: Firefox differs from Mozilla version in Feisty, Edgy

2007-08-02 Thread Elias Aarnio
Paul,

Thank you for your reply. You are absolutely right in saying that the
browser detection routine of this particular software vendor behaves
strangely.

However, here is something bug-like. If the reason of the malfunction is
that the User Agent strings of both some versions of Ubuntu Firefox
packages and debian Iceweasel packages are faulty in the way that they
do not follow the specification given by Mozilla, we should take care
that the person / persons who generate these strings know about this
episode.

I need some help locating them. It is even better if someone promises to

The faultyness of the User Agent string is described in bug #48316 as
Yamal brought up.

[Bug 129631] Firefox differs from Mozilla version in Feisty, Edgy

2007-08-01 Thread Elias Aarnio
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: firefox

There is a dissimilarity between the Ubuntu (and Debian) versions of
Firefox (IceWeasel) and the original Mozilla binary.

Symptom: There is a map service at
http://80.248.160.121/vakkasuomi.paikkatietopalvelu/
The page generates only a failure message in Finnish. The page cannot be opened
with Firefox versions packaged with Feisty or Egdy. This has been tested with
running LiveCD-versions (Feisty, Edgy) and desktop installations (Feisty). The
version used in desktop testing is 2.0.0.5

The odd thing is that the service on the page mentioned above works with
the Firefox 2.0.0.5 binary downloaded from the Mozilla pages on the same
platform where the Ubuntu version does not work. This has been tested in
Feisty. I tested I tested with Debian 40r0, too: it does not work.

The problem is not Java related. Some functionalities of the service require
Java but the map view should open even if Java is not installed. When trying to
open with Feisty or Edgy the contents of the page is not opened enough to
launch a Java console that pops up OK on other occasions.

This problem seems to be inexistent in RPM-based distributions: everyone I
asked says the page is working. The page also works with Gutsy test version and
Dapper.

It seems there is something both in Ubuntu and Debian FF packages that
differs from the Mozilla binaries in such a way that the map service
(link above) does not work. My concern is to get this public service
usable for Ubuntu users.

Yamal, thank you for your input. This seems to be the correct reason and
your analysis that this behaviour has to do with bug #48316 is correct.

[Bug 91582] Re: Firefox 2.0.0.2 spontaneous crash while filling form, Beryl

2007-03-16 Thread Elias Aarnio
Hello,

I have tried to reproduce the crash but I have not been able to
reproduce it. Not when using Metacity nor Beryl.

I was typing text into a text box like this at http://forum.ubuntu-
fi.org/. The browser had been open for hours and at least 5 minutes with
the other open tabs untouched. I do not know what kind of refresh
intervals these open pages in tabs have. The crash could be caused by
some of these pages as well.

I have MediaPlayerConnectivity 0.8.3 and Wizz RSS Reader 2.1.7
installed. I have no themes installed.

About plugins (Finnish localization but I think it is understandable as
it is standard output):

Please ask for more if there's some information I can give.

[Bug 91581] Firefox 2.0.0.2 spontaneous crash while filling form, Beryl

2007-03-12 Thread Elias Aarnio
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: firefox

While having 5 other tabs open, Firefox crashed while filling a text
form at http://forum.ubuntu-fi.org/. The addition installed is
MediaPlayerConnectivity. None of the tabs contained any streaming
content, though.

I am using SVN version of Beryl from Trevino´s repositories so this
could be caused by Beryl.

Please ask for more detailed information. This is my first bug report on
FF.

[Bug 23917] Re: gksudo GnomeUI Warning

2007-02-09 Thread Elias Aarnio
I managed to create this situation into a perfectly working system. I
installed mediawiki1.7 from Ubuntu repositories and all the depending
sw. After that the system was not able to run sudo nor gksudo commands.

Also, I installed MediaWiki 1.7 and the depending sw with Synaptic,
after that I continued in terminal following this guide:

http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Running_MediaWiki_on_Debian_GNU/Linux

and gave the command

apt-get install apache2-mpm-prefork libapache2-mod-php5 php5-gd
php5-mysql mysql-server php5-cli

After this command sudo broke.

Hope this helps.

[Bug 23917] Re: gksudo GnomeUI Warning

2007-02-09 Thread Elias Aarnio
Strange: after removing all the packages mentioned above (all that
mediawiki1.7 are dependent on and the ones mentione in the apt-get
command above, gksudo gives the same warning but is able to open gedit
in su mode.

Starting gedit with sudo gives no warnings and works.

[Bug 78910] Names of Edgy sounds are wrong

2007-01-12 Thread Elias Aarnio
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ubuntu-sounds

The names of the different sounds do not describe the true nature of the
sounds correctly:

The problem gets worse when the names are translated into different
languages in localization process.

* Boing sounds like a high marimba note to me - more a click than a boing
* Siren sounds more like a faulty electrical starter of a car (hope no-one
has sirens like that)
* Clinck sounds like a bongo or djembe drum to me
* Beep sounds exactly like Clink

If there is some technical reason for this inconsistency, it should be
fixed.
