[Bug 2051838] Re: /usr/libexec/gdm-wayland-session: Error: WaylandMessage::Write() too many files to send

2024-02-27 Thread Frederic Van Espen
This is probably the same issue:
https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?pid=2153594

I don't have the issue when I launch firefox like: MOZ_ENABLE_WAYLAND=0
firefox

MOZ_ENABLE_WAYLAND=1 became the default in firefox 121.

2019-06-17 Thread Frederic Van Espen
It seems this is also applicable to ubuntu bionic since openssl 1.1.1
landed in bionic-updates. We have bionic clients that cannot connect to
the enterprise wifi because they attempt TLS 1.3. Recompiling openssl
with the "no-tls1_3" Configure option fixes the problem. See also

[Bug 1813923] [NEW] MERGED_USR=yes breaks debootstrap of updated xenial distrib

2019-01-30 Thread Frederic Van Espen
Public bug reported:

The latest change of MERGED_USR=yes in bionic is causing failure to
debootstrap an updated xenial chroot on bionic.

We have a mirror of ubuntu apt repositories where xenial, xenial-updates
and xenial-security are merged into one distribution called xenial-
updated-bootstrap. We do this to be able to debootstrap a fully up to
date chroot.

The debootstrap command looks like this:
debootstrap --arch=amd64 --components=main --include=SOME_PACKAGES
xenial-updated-bootstrap target/ http://mirror
/usr/share/debootstrap/scripts/xenial

This results in the debootstrap failing with these errors:
W: Failure while installing base packages. This will be re-attempted up to
five times.
W: See /data/foober/debootstrap/debootstrap.log for details (possibly the
package /var/cache/apt/archives/kbd_1.15.5-1ubuntu5_amd64.deb is at fault)

W: Failure while installing base packages. This will be re-attempted up to
five times.

W: See /data/foober/debootstrap/debootstrap.log for details (possibly the
package /var/cache/apt/archives/kbd_1.15.5-1ubuntu5_amd64.deb is at fault)

In the debootstrap log I find these:
Unpacking kbd (1.15.5-1ubuntu5) ...
dpkg: error processing archive
/var/cache/apt/archives/kbd_1.15.5-1ubuntu5_amd64.deb (--unpack):
unable to open '/bin/dumpkeys.dpkg-new': No such file or directory

such file or directory

Even if I add --no-merged-usr option (which is supposed to be the
default according to the man page) the debootstrap fails.

The version previously available in bionic works fine to debootstrap the
updated xenial distribution.

Just clarifying that we don't use the resolvconf package either, but
just a plain static /etc/resolv.conf file.

[Bug 1745463] Re: Disabling systemd-resolved breaks dhclient resolvconf integration

2019-01-21 Thread Frederic Van Espen
I quite agree with @GeekSmith here. We disabled systemd-resolved on
bionic and install ifupdown instead since we install this on server that
have a static configuration and we don't want systemd-resolved to modify
anything in the resolv.conf file.

Only during the initial installation time of the server we use dhclient
to get an IP address. The result is that the resolv.conf file is not
modified by dhclient despite systemd-resolved being disabled. To work
around this issue, we simply deleted the /etc/dhcp/dhclient-enter-
hooks.d/resolved file as we don't need it anyway.

A cleaner way of course it to actually test in the file if systemd-
resolved is used, as @GeekSmith's patch does.

[Bug 1811861] Re: incorrect permissions on /var/log after debootstrap

2019-01-16 Thread Frederic Van Espen
Sorry for the noise, it seems this is not related to rsyslog after all.
In our install process we are moving /var/log to another partition
(mounted in /data/) and then symlink it to /var/log. Permissions are set
up properly and work while the system is running. When the system is
rebooted though there is an unknown process changing the permissions of
/data/log, my best guess something related to systemd.

When we bind mount /data/log in /var/log directory we don't have this
issue though.

[Bug 1811861] [NEW] incorrect permissions on /var/log after debootstrap

2019-01-15 Thread Frederic Van Espen
Public bug reported:

we are debootstrapping a full bionic distribution into a directory.
After debootstrapping the permissions on /var/log are incorrect, causing
rsyslog to fail because it cannot write into the directory to create the
various files.

Also, in the postinst of the rsyslog package I see that systemd-tmpfiles is
attempted to be used to create the files defined in
/usr/lib/tmpfiles.d/00rsyslog.conf, but from what I can tell this will never
work because of the systemd-tmpfiles manpage:
   --create
If this option is passed, all files and directories marked with f,
F, w, d, D, v, p, L, c, b, m in the configuration files are
created or written to. Files and directories marked with z, Z, t, T,
a, and A have their ownership, access mode and security
   labels set.

Since the files are configured with type "z" only ownership, access mode
and security will be updated.

[Bug 86536] Re: fails to resolve dependencies on virtual packages

2019-01-14 Thread Frederic Van Espen
Encountered this as well today. We are doing debootstrap of bionic with
an include of a package that depends on libnet-ssleay-perl, which
depends on virtual package perl-openssl-abi-1.1 which is provided by
perl-openssl-defaults.

as a workaround I have to exclicitely add perl-openssl-defaults in the
includes of the debootstrap.

[Bug 1408135] Re: live-config fails to install

2015-02-02 Thread Espen Carlsen
This issue affects 12.04 (Precise), 14.04 (Trusty), 14.10 (Utopic) and 15.04
(Vivid).
In 15.04, there's a suggested version of live-config-sysvinit that depends on
sysvinit-core that doesn't exist either.

I'm new to this, so what are the next steps to get a patch approved, so
we can use live-build again?

[Bug 1408135] Re: live-config fails to install

2015-01-08 Thread Espen Carlsen
Can this issue be that live-config-sysvinit just depends on the wrong package?
live-config-sysvinit depends on sysvinit =2.86.
That package seems retired and are replaced with:
sysvinit-utils 2.88dsf-41ubuntu6

So maybe if the package got the dependencies changed to this one, it
would work?

[Bug 1317569] Re: [HP ZBook 17 Mobile Workstation] Nikon Coolpix S31 not recognized

2014-05-12 Thread Espen Ore
I have run the lsusb command. Since I am now at work, this comes from
another computer, a Dell Latitude E6520. But I also have the problem on
a Dell Inspiron in addition to the HP first mentioned, so this seems to
be a general Ubuntu 14.04-problem and not a computer-specific problem.

Honestly, this goes towards nonsense. The bug appears in *all* my
computers whether I use 32bit or 64bit Ubuntu 14.04 and whether i use a
Dell Latitude, Dell Inspiron or a HP-computer. This is obviously a very
general bug in the 14.04-version of Ubuntu.

Re: [Bug 1310303] Re: Ubuntu 14.04 does not recognize my FujiFilm FinePix S1600 camera any more

2014-05-07 Thread Espen Ore
Hi,

Just a few questions:

1. This is something you wish me to do while I try to connect to the
camera that is unrecognized? I ask because I am now at work and this
camera is at home, so I can probably not check it until tomorrow.

2. I am not so advanced in Ubuntu, so I do not really know what the
difference between an Ubuntu repository kernel and a mainline one. And I
especially do not know what I should do to change between them.

Best regards,
Espen

[Bug 1310303] Re: Ubuntu 14.04 does not recognize my FujiFilm FinePix S1600 camera any more

2014-04-28 Thread Espen Ore
I can just add that it seems that the problem occurs in Ubuntu 14.04 generally
and depends on the type of camera. This goes for Dell Inspiron, Dell Latitude
and HP ZBook. My Nikon Coolpix S31 is not mounted although I can find it with
lsusb which gives:
Bus 003 Device 005: ID 04b0:0341 Nikon Corp.
And I can extract images from the camera with Camera.app v. 0.8

On the other hand my Olymus XZ-1 is recognized as before.

I have installed apport if you want any data from one of my computers.

[Bug 946899] Re: 8086:2a02 [drm:i915_hangcheck_elapsed] *ERROR* Hangcheck timer elapsed... GPU hung

--

The fix for this for me was to change the display drivers to intel-01
drivers ( 01.org ). This bumped the MESA driver from 9.2.1 to 10.0.0.

From what i could guess it seamed to be sandy-bridge related, and
apparently got fixed in MESA 9.2.3

[Bug 1266142] [NEW] avahi-daemon do not autostart on boot

2014-01-04 Thread Espen Arnesen
Public bug reported:

I setup a Time Capsule following this guide:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2105755
All got up and running and seemed fine until i rebooted my 14.04 server, and
Time Machine could not connect to server any more.
To get it back up and running again i have to ssh to server and issue sudo
services avahi-daemon restart to get it back up and running. This gives me the
output:
espen77@athena:~$ sudo service avahi-daemon restart
[sudo] password for espen77:

but no change.

[Bug 1239228] Re: [MS-7693, Realtek ALC892, Pink Mic, Rear] Background noise and strange sound

2013-10-29 Thread Espen Krømke
I got the exact same problem. I even went out and bought me a new
headset just to be 100% sure that it wasn't just the set that was
broken, but it wasn't.

It started after I upgraded to 13.10. I have since then done a new,
complete fresh install with no change.

Oddly enogh it seems this only affect headset mics. I got a plain USB
table mic from Logitech who still works, but none of my (now) two
headset mics are working properly. Also, the new headset has it's own
audio interface (via USB) with no difference, so it can't just be the
analogue onboard audio jacks either.

[Bug 317761] Re: dpkg-source sets -i -I by default

2013-08-07 Thread Frederic Van Espen
for source format 3.0 (quilt), the --help switch shows you which -I
options are set by default:

-I[pattern]filter out files when building tarballs
 (defaults to: -I*.a -I*.la -I*.o -I*.so -I.*.sw?
-I*/*~ -I,,* -I.[#~]* -I.arch-ids -I.arch-inventory -I.be -I.bzr -I.bzr.backup
-I.bzr.tags -I.bzrignore -I.cvsignore -I.deps -I.git -I.gitattributes

-I.svn -ICVS -IDEADJOE -IRCS -I_MTN -I_darcs -I{arch}).

I believe indeed this is a bug in dpkg-dev, since we are explicitely requesting
those files to be included. The default set of excludes should not remove this
file from the source package. which is why I reported a debian bug:

[Bug 1132396] Re: [HDA, ALC889, optical spdif] Driver did not create IEC958 device

2013-04-03 Thread Espen Lund
I sent a mail to Pulseaudio mailing list, and a developer / co-maintainer is
able to reproduce this bug :).
Fortunately, I now tried this myself, and I'm able to reproduce the bug.
I wonder why this bug hasn't been noticed earlier, since this is a
really basic thing... I'll debug this on my own machine.

Hopefully there will be a fix very soon.

[Bug 1132396] [NEW] [HDA-Intel - HDA Intel, playback] volume slider problem, volume reset to 100% after changing default playback device

2013-02-24 Thread Espen Lund
Public bug reported:

I tend to switch default playback between two outputs on the same
soundcard, the s/pdif digital out and 3.55mm headphone jack. I expect
both devices to save their previous output levels from last time i used
it. This doesn't happen.

If i were to put my output volume on s/pdif out to 50%, and change my
default playback to headphones to then switch back. I would notice that
the sound volume of s/pdif returns to 100%. Basicly reseting, everytime
i switch default playback device.

However, this only occurs if i switch between outputs on the SAME
soundcard. If i were to switch from s/pdif output on my integrated Intel
soundcard, to 3.55mm on my discrete Creative X-Fi Soundcard and then
back. The output volume would still be the same.

It was very easy to reproduce this problem i have, done in atleast 20 seconds.
Just change the output volumes, and switch output on the same soundcard at
Sound settings in Ubuntu 12.10

Might just say, the device named HDMI/Display Port is the only device letting
me utilize the integrated s/pdif output.
I am not using the HDMI/Display Port at my gfx card at all.

[Bug 993187] Re: ubuntu 12.04 completely freezes frequently.

2013-02-03 Thread Frederic Van Espen
For me everything freezes completely. If it freezes while listening to
music, it starts skipping as if you're listening to a scratched cd :-)

I'm on debian wheezy. To temporarily work around this issue, I use the
3.6.0 kernel from experimental.

I'm running on a Dell Latitude E6530, with a core i5 cpu and an nvidia
NVS5200 which I disable with vgaswitcheroo. The same freeze happens when
I don't disable it.

[Bug 678080] Re: Unable to use any options with apt ssh/rsh acquire method

2012-04-25 Thread Frederic Van Espen
I am quite surprised to see that this critical bug, that renders apt
over ssh unusable if you want to use ssh options, is not fixed in at
least an LTS version of ubuntu after 1.5 years after it has been
reported.

I'm even more surprised that this isn't fixed in LTS when the exact
patch is given by the reporter.

[Bug 678080] Re: Unable to use any options with apt ssh/rsh acquire method

2012-04-25 Thread Frederic Van Espen
Hello Michael, thanks for your quick response.

I'm using the lucid (10.04) LTS server release. In there it's not fixed
yet.

It was actually broken a long time ago (read 8 years) in r859 of the
rsh.cc file.

For now I just fixed it by applying the patch with apt-get source apt
and rebuilding the package.

[Bug 948098] [NEW] Home Folder quicklist missing

2012-03-06 Thread Espen Meidell
Public bug reported:

Sometimes the quicklist items dissapear from the home folder icon (the
options open a new window, Home Folder, Keep in launcher and
quit are still present, only the list of places is missing). This is
fixed by rebooting the computer.

[Bug 810299] [NEW] firefox syspref.js not working

2011-07-14 Thread Espen Stefansen
Public bug reported:

I'm trying to use /etc/firefox/syspref.js to set system wide firefox-
settings for my users. But when they start firefox, the settings are not
used.

In /etc/firefox/syspref.js I put the following:
pref(browser.startup.homepage, http://www.example.com;);

But when people start firefox, it's still set to about:startpage, which
was the previous default.

[Bug 810299] Re: firefox syspref.js not working

2011-07-14 Thread Espen Stefansen
I had other systemwide changes to make as well...

But yes, that file should be removed. Along with
/usr/lib/firefox-5.0/defaults/pref/vendor.js and
/usr/lib/firefox-5.0/defaults/pref/syspref.js which doesn't work either.

Actually /usr/lib/firefox-5.0/defaults/pref/syspref.js links to
/etc/firefox/syspref.js. Couldn't the solution be to link /etc/xul-
ext/ubufox.js from xul-ext-ubufox to /etc/firefox/syspref.js?

[Bug 810299] Re: firefox syspref.js not working

2011-07-14 Thread Espen Stefansen
Since syspref.js didn't work, i tried vendor.js, but that didn't work
either. That's why i said that.

Just disregard what i said about vendor.js. I dug deeper into ubufox and
found what I was looking for. Thanx.

[Bug 790924] [NEW] Shorewall Runlevel scripts incorrect in Ubuntu 10.04 LTS

2011-05-31 Thread Espen Solbu
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: shorewall

Description:Ubuntu 10.04.2 LTS
Release:10.04

shorewall:
  Installed: 4.4.6-1
  Candidate: 4.4.6-1
  Version table:
 *** 4.4.6-1 0
500 http://no.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ lucid/main Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

I did a complete reinstall of a server
After installation and configuration of Shorewall (including setting startup=1
in /etc/defaults/shorewall), I was puzzled that Shorewall did not start upon
reboot.

Looking at the backups of my rcX.0 folders, and the rcX.0 folders on the new
installation. there was some differences.
Running
update-rc.d -f shorewall remove,
then
update-rc.d shorewall defaults
made shorewall start upon restart as expected.

I would have expected that runlevel scripts were correct after
installation of the package

** Affects: shorewall (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 676426] Re: Choosing liferea from the Messaging Menu should raise its window

2011-02-23 Thread Espen
Same in natty, if liferea is already open and behind other applications
on the desktop clicking on it from the messaging menu does nothing. But
if liferea is running minimized when you click it from messaging menu
the icon in the launcher shakes and the program is raised.

[Bug 621265] Re: Slow Wireless Connection in Intel 3945abg

2011-02-22 Thread Espen
I have now used #270 for 6 days, and I still get about 7Mbit/s down and
0.64Mbit/s up. These number are what I could expect from my ISP. I get
the same speed by testing the from my MacBookPro.

#270 surely works for my system and I am very happy!

[Bug 712103] Re: unlocking dialog doesn't show

2011-02-20 Thread Espen
I have almost the same problem, but for me it don't help to switch to console
and back to x.
After i have written the password i can see the mousepointer changing when i
move it across the screen, depending on what is suppose to be showing (link in
firefox, text input, etc), but the screen stays all black except the mouse
pointer. This started a couple of days ago, and happens about half the times
the screensaver comes on. I have to reboot when this happens.
My system is natty a2 i386 thinkpad x200t, last updated 20.02.2011.
