[Bug 1757906] Re: Please port your package away from Qt 4

2019-01-28 Thread Fabián Rodríguez
VMPK's author has clarified that it's been ported to QT5 a long time ago:
https://sourceforge.net/p/vmpk/bugs/54/

If and when the Debian package is updated this should trickle down to Ubuntu:

[Bug 657031] Re: [08ff:2810] AuthenTec, Inc. AES2810 fingerprint reader not recognized (worked in 10.04)

2015-11-24 Thread Fabián Rodríguez
The PPA for fprint I posted about >3 Y ago still seems to be the place to get
the latest package versions of fprint for Ubuntu. There's lots of information
there:
https://launchpad.net/~fingerprint/+archive/ubuntu/fprint

For complete information on supported/unsupported devices, see:
http://www.freedesktop.org/wiki/Software/fprint/libfprint/

It seems the AES2810 is on neither one.

To check which version of fprint packages you have access to, see
http://packages.ubuntu.com

I don't have access to any Authentec devices at the moment, I am
unsubscribing to this bug report now.

[Bug 188039] Re: [needs-packaging] OpenProj

2014-11-07 Thread Fabián Rodríguez
Unassigning, changing to won't fix.

According to Wikipedia (and sourceforge timestamps) this project has
stopped development in 2008 and a new fork continued its development
under the ProjectLibre name.

In late 2008, Projity was acquired by Serena Software.[2] As of early
2009 support for OpenProj and communication about development of
OpenProj seem to have been suspended.[3] There were actually regressions
with a few commits to the CVS, There has been no improvement in the past
four years and it is not longer compatible with Microsoft Project.

In 2012, the founders of OpenProj forked the abandoned code base of OpenProj
and started development for a new release. The initial release of this fork
occurred in August 2012. The name of the new fork is ProjectLibre.

[Bug 618838] Re: Apple Magic Trackpad requires PIN to pair, fails manual pairing

2013-04-22 Thread Fabián Rodríguez
I don't work for Canonical anymore nor do I have access to this hardware
or interest in it anymore.

It seems the wikipage mentioned in the original bug report above has
been updated quite a bit until June last year, and the original report
was for Ubuntu 10.10.

I'd suggest makeing sure you are using either Ubuntu 12.04 LTS or the
latest Ubuntu version and reviewing the wiki page.

Please open a new bug if this is still a problem, takeing care to
specify what Ubuntu version you're using.

[Bug 1073185] [NEW] HD TV detected, shown as connected, but no HDMI signal - eeeBox EB1012, Nvidia ION VGA [10de:087d] (rev b1)

2012-10-30 Thread Fabián Rodríguez
Public bug reported:

Using up-to-date Ubuntu 12.04.1 LTS, no binary drivers, the external
HDMI display (HD TV) is detected and shown as connected in xrandr and
the DIsplay Settings utility, yet there is no signal and the screen
remains black.

VGA compatible controller: NVIDIA Corporation ION VGA (rev b1)

$ xrandr

I've tried the binary drivers too, there seems to be an EDID reporting
problem leading to possible manual configuration / modeline creation /
xorg.conf editing, etc.

I am reporting this bug on a vanilla, no-binary Nvidia drivers install
for tracking purposes and so other people interested in this system know
it doesn't work with HDMI if using just the Nouveau driver.

[Bug 1030531] Re: Can't connect with Huawei E173Eu-1 [12d1:14a8] (Natcom Haiti)

I am unable to test this hardware as I don't have access to it anymore
and I am not in Haiti (and won't in the short term). I hope other
subscribers can help test the proposed workarounds and ensuing solution
(if any).

[Bug 1000208] Re: wifi network get disconnected periodically -- Realtek RTL8191SEvA

2012-09-27 Thread Fabián Rodríguez
Hi, while helping someone else with this very same issue I found this post:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1834478

Can someone test with realtek's latest driver and confirm if that works?
Then it would be a matter of asking for this driver to be available via
the hardware drivers tools, but at least a workaround would do it for
now.

[Bug 1000208] Re: wifi network get disconnected periodically -- Realtek RTL8191SEvA

2012-09-27 Thread Fabián Rodríguez
Looks like a driver issue. I sanitized the instructions from several
sources, the person I was helping reported apparent initial success with
the Realtek driver built+installed manually:

1) Make sure the system is up to date and development tools are installed:
sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get upgrade -y sudo apt-get dist-upgrade -y
sudo apt-get install --reinstall build-essential
sudo apt-get install --reinstall linux-headers-generic
sudo apt-get install --reinstall linux-headers-`uname -r`

2) Get the appropriate driver file from realtek.com. Its name will end
with .tar.gz. The model you are looking for is RTL8191SE (NOT VA2).

3) Open a terminal, go to the folder where the file was saved:

$ cd Downloads

4) Uncompress the file:
$ tar -xvzf 92ce_se_de_linux_mac80211_0005.1230.2011.tar.gz

5) Change to the directory
$cd rtl_92ce_92se_92de_linux_mac80211_0005.1230.2011

6) Build install
1. Change to Super User
   $ sudo -s
2. Compile driver from the source code , install it to the kernel
   # make make install
   3. Reboot:
   # reboot

[Bug 882790] Re: PiTiVi fails to render

2012-09-04 Thread Fabián Rodríguez
From comment by one of the devs upstream:

Currently PiTiVi's core is being replaced by GStreamer Editing Services. This
is a major overhaul and we sadly can't investigate much bugs that occur on the
traditional core of PiTiVi.
Okay, confirming the bug[...] to be perfectly honest, we are very short on
developer resources right now and there is no immediate fix for this. Someone
needs to come up and do the proper debugging and bug fixing work in GES (or in
gstreamer if the problem is in gstreamer).

That was back in February :|

[Bug 1045433] Re: libreoffice does not install on ubuntu 10.04

2012-09-04 Thread Fabián Rodríguez
Looking at
https://launchpad.net/~libreoffice/+archive/ppa?field.series_filter=lucid
it seems 3.5.6 series are being uploaded by Rico. @Christopher, can you
confirm that would be the person to ask?

I thought the LibreOffice PPA was maintained by Canonical, so who would
then be responsible for it?

[Bug 1031836] Re: Wrong timezone data for Port-au-Prince, Haiti: DST offset is ignored

2012-08-13 Thread Fabián Rodríguez
As a workaround one can manually update the tzdata information:

1) Download the latest tzdata file:
mkdir tzupdate
cd tzupdate
wget http://www.iana.org/time-zones/repository/releases/tzdata2012e.tar.gz

2) extract the data:
tar -xvzf tzdata2009b.tar.gz
zic -d zoneinfo northamerica

3) Copy the relevant data to the approriate directory:cd zoneinfo
cd zoneinfo
sudo cp -r * /usr/share/zoneinfo/

4) Text the changes:
zdump -v America/Port-au-Prince| grep 2012

That should produce this output:
America/Port-au-Prince Sun Mar 11 06:59:59 2012 UTC = Sun Mar 11 01:59:59 2012
EST isdst=0 gmtoff=-18000
America/Port-au-Prince Sun Mar 11 07:00:00 2012 UTC = Sun Mar 11 03:00:00 2012
EDT isdst=1 gmtoff=-14400
America/Port-au-Prince Sun Nov 4 05:59:59 2012 UTC = Sun Nov 4 01:59:59 2012
EDT isdst=1 gmtoff=-14400
America/Port-au-Prince Sun Nov 4 06:00:00 2012 UTC = Sun Nov 4 01:00:00 2012
EST isdst=0 gmtoff=-18000

CHanges should be immediate, ie. reboot should not be required.

The above was adapated/sanitized from: http://chrisjean.com/2009/03/10
/updating-daylight-saving-time-on-linux/

The above was tested in both Ubuntu 12.04 LTS and Trisquel 5.5.

** Description changed:

I am installing Ubuntu 12.04 LTS and despite choosing Port-au-Prince
from the global map in Ubiquity, the time zone / resulting time is
wrong. It will show for example 8AM when in fact it is 9AM. I've
compared this with local time (radio, local mobile phones) and with
  different Internet sources to confirm.

TimeAndDate.com reports the following correct information:

Standard time zone: UTC/GMT -5 hours
  Daylight saving time: +1 hour
Current time zone offset: UTC/GMT -4 hours
Time zone abbreviation: EDT - Eastern Daylight Time
Daylight Saving Time DST started on dimanche 11 mars 2012, 02 h 00 local
standard time
DST ends on dimanche 4 novembre 2012, 02 h 00 local daylight time

I believe any Ubuntu system (and probably other Debian derivatives)
running in this timezone are 1 hoour late as a result.

+ UPATE: This was fixed in tzdata 20120c1 and above, however such version won't
be updated in Ubuntu for some time (low priority according to Canonical). To

Citing Canonical support: This missed 12.04 because feature freeze was
on February 16th and the release which corrected the Haiti DST issue was
release on April 3rd. The public bug will not see much work on it. I
have escalated this issue to our engineers using a private bug.

[Bug 1030531] Re: Can't connect with Huawei E173Eu-1 [12d1:14a8] (Natcom Haiti)

2012-08-03 Thread Fabián Rodríguez
Canonical support is suggesting the following potential solution:
# modprobe -r usbserial
# modprobe -v usbserial vendor=0x12d1 product=0x14a8

I lack the time to confirm this is a regression from 10.04 LTS or the
above potential workaround, and I lack the connectivity to report this
with the hardware in hand (I'll be leaving Haiti tomorrow).

Hopefully this report helps someone else achieve better results.

This comment refers to http://www.sakis3g.org making this key work in Mint:

I prefer advancing this bug and getting proper support in
Ubuntu/Debian+derivatives for this key than running a script everytime,
but the above links may have information that will help.

[Bug 1030531] [NEW] Can't connect with Huawei E173Eu-1 [12d1:14a8] (Netcom Haiti)

2012-07-29 Thread Fabián Rodríguez
Public bug reported:

When connecting this key in Ubuntu 12.04 LTS, it's not available in
Network Manager.

This is from the Netcom Haiti provider. lsusb reports it as:
Bus 001 Device 017: ID 12d1:14a8 Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd.

A sticker under the key identifies it as E173Eu-1.

I added the following lines to
/lib/udev/rules.d/40-usb_modeswitch.rules:

# Netcom Haiti (Huawei) E173Eu-1
ATTRS{idVendor}==12d1, ATTRS{idProduct}==14a8, RUN+=usb_modeswitch '%b/%k'

I also found guides indicating how to complete a workaround for this,
but I lack the time to pursue this further.

[Bug 646293] Re: usb connected cd/dvd drive not showing up in Nautilus despite being in dmesg

2012-07-18 Thread Fabián Rodríguez
Same problem with Ubuntu 12.04 LTS. i found this workaround:

1) Insert USB connector
2) Issue this command (not as sudo, just as regular user)
$ udisks --mount /dev/sr005e3:0701

To dismount/eject, simply unplug the drive. I am also asking Canonical
support to validate this/provide another workaround.

The above command can then be set as a shortcut. Not ideal, but it
works.

[Bug 1026371] [NEW] When tracing, only first stroke is draw, 2 + more strokes aren't, Use XInput option is wrong [0486:0185] EeePC T91MT HID Touch Panel

2012-07-18 Thread Fabián Rodríguez
Public bug reported:

When using any drawing tool for the first time, the first strike is
drawn as expected.

When attemptin another strike, and for all following strokes, nothing is
drawn. This could not be reproduced in The Gimp.

The Xournal manual at
http://xournal.sourceforge.net/manual.html#installation shows a
workaround: disable the Use XInput option. This option should not be
enabled by default for this particular touchscreen.

[Bug 873628] Re: Logitech Performance MX Darkfield mouse buttons support is incomplete

2012-07-13 Thread Fabián Rodríguez
Expected buttons behavior:

Button 1 - left click
Button 2 - wheel click / middle button
Button 3 - right click
Button 4 - wheel forward
Button 5 - wheel back
Button 6 - wheel left click
Button 7 - wheel right click
Button 8 - browser history: forward
Button 9 - browser history: back
Button 10 - application switch / Exposé on Mac
Button 13 - zoom

** Description changed:

The fingertip Zoom (Button 13) and Switch apps (Button 10) buttons
are not mapped on this mouse.

The Zoom button should be mapped to Ctrl, thus enabling the zoom
feature in most apps when scrolling the wheel (or Super if one
prefers the Zoom feature provided by Compiz).

The Switch apps button should be mapped to the Scale feature in
  Compiz.

As a workaround, such buttons can be mapped to the above or to other
  functions using the compizconfig-settings-manager package.
+
+ I have documented the buttons and expected behavior here (also attached to
this bug):

Actually, this is a separate task for hdhomerun-config, the CLI utility,
which remains outdated. Is it just a delay in builds which would be
automatic from now on or should I keep tracking this in the future too?

[Bug 657031] Re: [08ff:2810] AuthenTec, Inc. AES2810 fingerprint reader not recognized after upgrading to Ubuntu 10.10

2012-07-03 Thread Fabián Rodríguez
THe fprint PPA has seen quite a few updates lately:
https://launchpad.net/~fingerprint/+archive/fprint

For my Authentec 1600 this means full integration and configuration via
system settings (even in 12.04 LTS, contrary to what the documentation
indicates) at login and CLI sudo prompts. Keep in mind Ubuntu 10.10 is
now out of support, the PPA has packages for supported Ubuntu versions
(including 10.04 LTS).

To test such packages:

1. Add this PPA to your sources:
  sudo add-apt-repository ppa:fingerprint/fprint

2. Update your packages database, upgrade packages:
  sudo apt-get update
  sudo apt-get upgrade

3. Install the software:
 sudo apt-get install libfprint0 fprint-demo libpam-fprint gksu-polkit

The above indicated using the libpam-fprint package, although the docs
indicate libpam-fprintd (which wasn't found in my test).

Also keep in mind many fingerprint readers are in fact optical scanners
so the accuracy will vary when registering/using fingerprints.

[Bug 992872] Re: Can't read software license before installation, confusing open source vs. proprietary mention

2012-05-25 Thread Fabián Rodríguez
Acceptance of a license is not conditional to its availability for money
or not.

You make the exact point this bug is about. One should not have to
engage in the installation of any package before being able to at least
read the license as I stated initially, much like screenshots are
available in many cases. Otherwise you make the implicit assumption any
and all such licenses are accepted beforehand which effectively
invalidates them in most jurisdictions.

[Bug 245399] Re: Desktop installer should have an encrypted LVM option

2012-05-18 Thread Fabián Rodríguez
I've linked this bug report to the above blueprint.

** Description changed:

  Wishlist

The normal desktop installer should have an option like the alternate
CD's Guided - use entire disk and set up encrypted LVM. You only have
to read /. or listen to the news to hear about a gazillion lost laptops
with confidential data on them. I'd guess that many/most users will
never bother with the alternate installer, since the normal (and
recommended) desktop CD gives you a two-fer (LiveCD and install) when
downloaded and burned. Thus they will not be aware of this great
  option.

And when you go to fix this, see also:
