[Bug 1000208] Re: wifi network get disconnected periodically -- Realtek RTL8191SEvA
Looks like a driver issue. I sanitized the instructions from several sources, the person I was helping reported apparent initial success with the Realtek driver built+installed manually: 1) Make sure the system is up to date and development tools are installed: sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get upgrade -y sudo apt-get dist-upgrade -y sudo apt-get install --reinstall build-essential sudo apt-get install --reinstall linux-headers-generic sudo apt-get install --reinstall linux-headers-`uname -r` 2) Get the appropriate driver file from realtek.com. Its name will end with .tar.gz. The model you are looking for is RTL8191SE (NOT VA2). 3) Open a terminal, go to the folder where the file was saved: $ cd Downloads 4) Uncompress the file: $ tar -xvzf 92ce_se_de_linux_mac80211_0005.1230.2011.tar.gz 5) Change to the directory $cd rtl_92ce_92se_92de_linux_mac80211_0005.1230.2011 6) Build install 1. Change to Super User $ sudo -s 2. Compile driver from the source code , install it to the kernel # make make install 3. From comment by one of the devs upstream: Currently PiTiVi's core is being replaced by GStreamer Editing Services. [Bug 657031] Re: [08ff:2810] AuthenTec, Inc. AES2810 fingerprint reader not recognized after upgrading to Ubuntu 10.10
THe fprint PPA has seen quite a few updates lately: https://launchpad.net/~fingerprint/+archive/fprint For my Authentec 1600 this means full integration and configuration via system settings (even in 12.04 LTS, contrary to what the documentation indicates) at login and CLI sudo prompts. Keep in mind Ubuntu 10.10 is now out of support, the PPA has packages for supported Ubuntu versions (including 10.04 LTS). To test such packages: 1. Add this PPA to your sources: sudo add-apt-repository ppa:fingerprint/fprint 2. Update your packages database, upgrade packages: sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get upgrade 3. Install the software: sudo apt-get install libfprint0 fprint-demo libpam-fprint gksu-polkit The above indicated using the libpam-fprint package, although the docs indicate libpam-fprintd (which wasn't found in my test). [Bug 992872] Re: Can't read software license before installation, confusing open source vs. proprietary mention
Acceptance of a license is not conditional to its availability for money or not. You make the exact point this bug is about. One should not have to engage in the installation of any package before being able to at least read the license as I stated initially, much like screenshots are available in many cases. Otherwise you make the implicit assumption any and all such licenses are accepted beforehand which effectively invalidates them in most jurisdictions. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/992872 Title: Can't read software license before installation, confusing open source vs. proprietary mention To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/software-center/+bug/992872/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 245399] Re: Desktop installer should have an encrypted LVM option
I've linked this bug report to the above blueprint. ** Description changed: Wishlist The normal desktop installer should have an option like the alternate CD's Guided - use entire disk and set up encrypted LVM. You only have to read /. or listen to the news to hear about a gazillion lost laptops with confidential data on them. I'd guess that many/most users will never bother with the alternate installer, since the normal (and recommended) desktop CD gives you a two-fer (LiveCD and install) when downloaded and burned. Thus they will not be aware of this great option. And when you go to fix this, see also: + + Guided partitioner with LVM leaves no free space for snapshots https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/240813 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/245399 Title: Desktop installer should have an encrypted LVM option To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubiquity/+bug/245399/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
