[Bug 1184693] [NEW] [SEVERE] System restarts intead of shutdown, random start-up failure

2013-05-27 Thread Francesco Miglietta
Public bug reported:

This is a severe bug happening on a new E130 Thinkpad Lenovo/IBM with
Intel hardware, on Ubuntu 13.04 64 bit fresh new installation.

Description is easy: when I click shutdown (both from mouse, keyboard or
even from terminal command) system randomly restarts. I've exstimated
this happens with a 60% of frequency (sometime it takes me quite a while
to shutdown it).

A correlated (I think) bug is when I switch on the laptop it randomly
freezes. Basically I swith on and instead of presenting the classic
ubuntu logo on violet background I have a blinking cursor that forces me
to log and sudo reboot it (sometime it takes me quite a while to swith
on it).

I've no clue and this should be a "Certified" hardware -.-

Everything else works like a charm.

Some additional info:

CPU: Intel® Core™ i3-3217U CPU @ 1.80GHz × 4
GPU: HD4000
HD: the original has been replaced by a Samsung SSD 840pro with 128GB ram

OTHER: Fan noise is quite normal so no thermal reasons, battery works perfectly
and last pretty long, SSD is a real booster of the system.
EXTRA INSTALLED SOFTWARE upon standard one: Dropbox, Gimp, Tiled editor,
Pidgin, Geany, Openshot video editor.

This bug has been also reported by other user for on askubuntu,
laptop-mode-tools does not fix it:
http://askubuntu.com/questions/294739/laptop-reboot-when-i-want-to-shut-down

Cheers

Francesco

[Bug 844479] Re: [Xubuntu] Printer Manager in the Control Panel

2011-09-08 Thread Francesco Miglietta
@ Charlie: generally the "it has been for many releases" is not a good
motivation..

anyway it was meant to be just a suggestion so if we had a list of
system/user-setting/hardware-setting related applications the logic-
operator could be "does this program modify any kind of setting?"

with this question the choise would get easier (and with some logic):

gigolo -> no -> system entry
printings -> yes -> control panel
task manger -> no -> system entry
users & groups -> yes -> control panel
update manager -> no -> system entry
time & date -> yes -> control panel

[Bug 844479] Re: [Xubuntu] Printer Manager in the Control Panel

2011-09-08 Thread Francesco Miglietta
@ Lionel:

uhmm I think that a Setting manager should cover all the settings
without distinctions (it covers keyboard, mouse, displays..I think it
can cover printers too)

instead the System Menu is an entry of the Application Menu so IMHO it
should just cover applications related to the system like task manager,
synaptic package manager, update manager, startup disk creator,..)
without mixing them with setting related programs..

Setting manager -> all setting related stuff
System menu entry -> all system related applications

it sounds more logical to me..what do you think about it?

Best Regards

[Bug 841817] Re: system-config-printer missing from menus

2011-09-07 Thread Francesco Miglietta
@ Charlie Kravetz, Mackenzie Morgan:

I wasn't thinking about a movement of the icon from the System Menu to
the "Xfce Control Panel", but about having both because a user would
expect to find a Printer Manager in the Control Panel, and it will look
more complete as well. I've made a quick mockup you can see below.

It would be nice if the Printing Icon would be avaiable from the

[Bug 836208] Re: On login to xubuntu session, starts nautilus which ruins desktop

2011-09-06 Thread Francesco Miglietta
I think "Puppu Tuppu" has installed additional programs (like
rhythmbox), that have nautilus as a dependence. The workaround is
removing the Nautilus/Files process on the Session & Startup ->
Application Autostart list or just with the old but good:

sudo apt-get --purge remove nautilus

I think that an official fix preventing this behaviour should be
implemented.

[Bug 843407] [NEW] Missing Printers Icon in Main Menu and Setting Manager

2011-09-06 Thread Francesco Miglietta
Public bug reported:

Xfce lacks of an icon to directly call system-config-printer. The icon
is not present in the Main Menu or in Setting Manager windows. The
standard user would think Xubuntu comes with no printer manager utility.

Since system-config-printer is installed by default shouldn't be any
problem on adding at least one shortcut.

Thunar lags is not releted to the number of opening. It seems to me that
is related just to time instead: in the first 30-50 sec. Thunar lags on
first, second, third, fourth,.. ..opening. After some time Thunar starts
to open instantly as usual.

IMHO this bug is an high-importance one.

[Bug 748123] [NEW] fglrx drivers with radeon HD 4250 cause graphical enviroment fault

2011-04-02 Thread Francesco Miglietta
Public bug reported:

by default my eeepc 1015t with Ubuntu 11.04 beta 1 comes with gallium 3d
open source drivers that cause high battery consumption and annoying fan
noise

installing fglrx proprietary drivers solves the problems..but causes
graphical enviroment faults (i can't see bar, unity bar, part of the
background image), I could just guess buttons' positions and uninstall
the proprietary driver

when i restarted the netbook with the open source drivers all went
obviously well..and i was able to report the bug

i think it can be a fglrx or a compiz-related bug
