[Bug 2063875] [NEW] Some things are not correct in the Kubuntu download page and kubuntu.org

2024-04-26 Thread Ganton
Public bug reported:

On https://kubuntu.org/getkubuntu/ , people can read:
- "Kubuntu 22.04.4 LTS The latest Long Term Support (LTS) version of the
Kubuntu operating system for desktop PCs and laptops" although it's not right,
- "Kubuntu 24.04 supported with security and maintenance updates, until April
2032." although it's not right (in
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/NobleNumbat/ReleaseNotes/Kubuntu we can read "Kubuntu
24.04 will be supported for 3 years."),
- "Kubuntu 23.10 The latest version of the Kubuntu operating system for
desktop PCs and laptops" although it's not right.

Curiously, on https://kubuntu.org/ we can see that the screenshot looks
distorted (it's too tall). It's easier to see if you compare it to
https://kubuntu.org/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/7368/NoblePlasma.jpg

Thanks for Kubuntu, keep up the good work!

[Bug 2060727] Re: The keyboard does not work after latest kernel update

2024-04-19 Thread Ganton
> Is this new kernel working for you, Ganton?

No, it does not.

I've updated the kernel:
$ uname -a
Linux hostname 6.5.0-28-generic #29-Ubuntu SMP PREEMPT_DYNAMIC Thu Mar 28
23:46:48 UTC 2024 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
although in the end, after rebooting, I have experimented the same problem.

The (integrated) trackpoint works, although the integrated keyboard does
not work.

With an external USB keyboard, the computer can be used (if you have one
external USB keyboard near...).

I attach a part of what is seen after executing `journalctl.txt`.

[Bug 1902437] [NEW] `rm -i` doesn't work well if "language-pack-es" is installed. Problems arise

2020-11-01 Thread Ganton
Public bug reported:

Dear people,

SUMMARY
After "deleting" files, sometimes users will have great problems because, for
example, important information has not been deleted and users don't know it.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
Install the "language-pack-es" package, reboot.
Execute `touch 1; rm -i 1`
See that you are asked "rm: ¿borrar el fichero regular vacío '1'? (s/n)" (it
means "do you want to delete the empty file 1?").
Press the S key (that means the same as pressing the Y key in the
English-speaking version)
Press Return.
See that the file is not deleted, and you don't know about it.

EXPECTED RESULT
As always has happened, pressing the S key and Return would have deleted the
file.
Note: Pressing the Y key and Return really deletes the file.

OS VERSIONS
Linux: Ubuntu 20.10
Note: The bug doesn't happen using Ubuntu 20.04

[Bug 1875160] [NEW] Shared clipboard does not work. VBoxClient --clipboard terminates silently

2020-04-26 Thread Ganton
Public bug reported:

When installing Kubuntu 20.04 in a virtual machine, although it has the
6.1.6 version of Guest Additions, shared clipboard does not work.

It happens the same as it's described in [VBoxClient --clipboard
terminates silently](https://www.virtualbox.org/ticket/19234):

$ VBoxClient -v --clipboard -f   # Or `VBoxClient --clipboard -d`
Shared Clipboard: Starting X11 event thread
Shared Clipboard: Stopping X11 event thread ...
Shared Clipboard: X11 event thread terminated successfully
Error connecting to host service, rc=VERR_NOT_IMPLEMENTED
Service terminated abnormally with VERR_NOT_IMPLEMENTED
Running service failed: VERR_NOT_IMPLEMENTED

Previously reported at

and

Although that bug was reported for the 6.1.2 version of Guest Additions, the
6.1.6 version in the virtual machine does not solve the bug. The effects are
the same using:
- the `dkms`, `virtualbox-guest-x11` and `virtualbox-guest-dkms` packages (and
rebooting),
- or `sudo ./VBoxLinuxAdditions.run` from the
https://download.virtualbox.org/virtualbox/6.1.6/VBoxGuestAdditions_6.1.6.iso
file (and rebooting),
- or `sudo ./VBoxLinuxAdditions.run` from the
https://download.virtualbox.org/virtualbox/6.1.2/VBoxGuestAdditions_6.1.2.iso
file (and rebooting).

Thank you!

Yes, adding "keditbookmarks" to the "depends" list would solve those

[Bug 1577943] Re: kompare not highlighting intra line differences. Bold text not shown. Problems with kompare and fonts

2020-04-03 Thread Ganton
The problem still happens using Kubuntu 18.04 LTS. This time the Hack
font is used by default.

In Kubuntu 14.04 LTS: kompare used the "DejaVu Sans Mono" font by

In Kubuntu 18.04 LTS: if users manually configure kompare to use the
"DejaVu Sans Mono" font, then kompare correctly highlights intra line
differences. But users aren't told about it, and the problem is seen.

Steps to reproduce

[Bug 1564065] [NEW] Plasma regularly crashes after a wrong "Move To Desktop"

2016-03-30 Thread Ganton
Public bug reported:

If a user has e.g. two virtual desktops, he utilizes the secondary
button of the mouse to click on the title bar of a window, and chooses
to move the window to the *same* virtual desktop where it is -> the
"Move To Desktop" window stays there, and later Plasma crashes regularly
when doing normal operations. I attach a backtrace.

Operating system: Kubuntu 16.04beta2, under Virtualbox.
Plasma version: 5.5.4
Qt version: 5.5.1

[Bug 1510247] Re: Last kernel breaks aMule's kad UDP Sockets

2015-11-02 Thread Ganton
Hi! The same happens there.

Each time the computer is rebooted with this kernel:
$ uname -a
Linux tp 3.13.0-65-generic #106-Ubuntu SMP Fri Oct 2 22:08:27 UTC 2015
x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
then everything works correctly.

However, if the computer is rebooted with this kernel:
$ uname -a
Linux tp 3.13.0-66-generic #108-Ubuntu SMP Wed Oct 7 15:20:27 UTC 2015
x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
then e.g. Amule is unable to connect to the Kad/Kademlia network, and a lot of
those errors are seen:
MuleUDPSocket: Client UDP-SocketSocket died, recreating.
every time.

[Bug 1445970] [NEW] In the driver manager of Kubuntu: It looks like pressing OK was the same as pressing Cancel.

2015-04-19 Thread Ganton
Public bug reported:

Dear Sirs:

I have a virtual machine with Kubuntu 15.04 beta 2, and there the driver
manager warned that there were two drivers that could be updated (I
attached a screenshot to this bug report). I selected those drivers that
could be updated, I pressed OK and... the window closed, and no driver
was installed.

To install those drivers I had to: go to the driver manager, do it all
again, but this time instead of OK I pressed Apply.

So, in the driver manager of Kubuntu: It looks like pressing OK was
the same as pressing Cancel. Pressing OK should have installed all
the drivers that were selected.

All in all, the new Kubuntu is very good! Thanks for Kubuntu!

This is not the first time that this happens. For example, in the last

[Bug 1352792] [NEW] VLC does not play Musepack audio SV 7.0 files, although Amarok does

2014-08-05 Thread Ganton
Public bug reported:

Hi!

In a Kubuntu 14.04 computer, VLC does not play Musepack audio SV 7.0
files, although Amarok does.

A sample file (example01 (sv7).mpc) can be downloaded from

Notes:
- The computer has the kubuntu-restricted-extras package installed.

it answers

2014-08-05 Thread Ganton
If it's executed
mplayer 'example01 (sv7).mpc'
the file is played without problems.

If it's executed
vlc 'example01 (sv7).mpc'
then a new window of Vlc is opened but the file is not played.

If it's executed
cvlc 'example01 (sv7).mpc'
then cvlc writes

but nothing is played.

If it's executed

Then xine writes

[Bug 1349509] [NEW] Output of `apt-cache policy` is still confusing people

2014-07-28 Thread Ganton
Public bug reported:

Output of `apt-cache policy` is still confusing people. As it was stated
by Julian Andres Klode (juliank) in
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/apt/+bug/565364/comments/8:

The pin value displayed after the version does not actually
correspond to the version, but is the pin value of the candidate
version. This is confusing, yes, we might want to change this in a
future release.

For example, in
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/apt/+bug/565364/comments/7
it was written:

mysql-client-5.5:
Installed: (none)
Candidate: 5.5.31-0ubuntu0.12.04.1
Package pin: 5.5.31-0ubuntu0.12.04.1
Version table:
5.5.31-0ubuntu0.12.04.1 1002
500
http://srv11-msk.msk.mirantis.net/ubuntu-repo/mirror.yandex.ru/ubuntu/
precise-security/main amd64 Packages
500
http://srv11-msk.msk.mirantis.net/ubuntu-repo/mirror.yandex.ru/ubuntu/
precise-updates/main amd64 Packages
5.5.28-23.7ubuntu0.12.04.2+mirantis.wsrep3 1002
1001 http://srv11-msk.msk.mirantis.net/ubuntu-repo/precise-fuel-folsom/
precise-2.1.0.1/main amd64 Packages
5.5.22-0ubuntu1 1002
500
http://srv11-msk.msk.mirantis.net/ubuntu-repo/mirror.yandex.ru/ubuntu/
precise/main amd64 Packages

and that 1002 was shown for 5.5.31-0ubuntu0.12.04.1,
5.5.28-23.7ubuntu0.12.04.2+mirantis.wsrep3 and 5.5.22-0ubuntu1 1002...
altough it was related only to 5.5.31-0ubuntu0.12.04.1 (the candidate
version).

One row should bring particular information about that row, information
that is common to all rows should appear in a separate place.

I was misleaded, too, by the same kind of problem, and after searching
and searching... I found those explanations by Julian Andres Klode and
more confused users in
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/apt/+bug/565364.

Anyway, thanks for all the good software!

http://www.kubuntu.org/getkubuntu/download
but that page has information that is outdated, and maybe that page shouldn't
exist because there's already
http://www.kubuntu.org/getkubuntu
?

[Bug 1214598] Re: kernel 3.8.0-29 does not detect usb memories; but 3.8.0-27 detects them

2013-08-22 Thread Ganton
In this page, the last attached files were automatically put there by the
`apport-collect -p linux replace-with-bug-number` command that told
Christopher M. Penalver that I could execute if I used the latest development
release of Ubuntu. I downloaded the ISO image from
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/, I booted with it... and the USB
memories were seen by the PC!
Anyway I executed that `apport-collect -p linux replace-with-bug-number`
command, just in case it could help anyone.

Joschi said:
I forgot to mention that in my case the memories are detected after ~6 min
I waited, an waited, and an hour later nothing was detected :-(
However, booting with a kernel that was not the 3.8.0-29 one (for example, the
3.8.0-27, or the one from the latest development release of Ubuntu), the
problem does not appear.
