Public bug reported: Confirmed happening in Ubuntu Hirsute but working normally in Ubuntu Bionic: On Screen keyboard popup does not type anything into the ubuntu GUI applications on first popup. for applications like the wifi login prompt, login screen textbox, and search bar function, typing on the virtual keyboard that automatically pops up does nothing (mouse or touchscreen as input), only hitting the enter button submits the prompt which then closes and reopens the keyboard, then the keyboard works as intended. [Bug 1850702] Re: [Samsung Notebook 7 Pro, Realtek ALC256, headphone jack] Headphone sound is faint and distorted (but works fine in Windows)
An update: testing some more, I can confirm that there were improvements on volume, now it is definetely louder: if it weren't the buzzing effect on the sound, I could say it was fixed. On the other hand, the louder it gets the more noticeable the distortion became. Oh, and I noticed that both of the new kernels are throwing some acpi related errors on boot and on shutdown. I didn't really look that much about them online - so I don't really know if they are serious or not - but as far as I can tell, everything else that was working on the laptop remains so. I redownloaded and reinstalled the 5.5.2 and saw some errors related to Nvidia drivers on install as well. [Bug 1854982] Re: Lost compatibilty for backup between Ubuntu 19.10 and FreeBSD 12.0
BertN45, Thanks for the continued followup. Most of these ZFS variants run test suites to ensure that new code has a limited ability to create additional issues. I would expect that cross OS compatibility is not heavily tested (if at all). You were in a position to witness this problem, took effort to report, and did some preliminary followup tests. All these helped tremendously. Ubuntu uses code from the ZFS on Linux project. Ubuntu has chosen certain ways to use the ZOL code that fits their needs. Ubuntu's choices are reasonable, and should work. I'm glad to see the FreeBSD bug report. This is likely the first time they are being made aware of the situation. As far as I know, the ZOL project is yet to know of the issue. With this report filed with one of the two organizations that actually develop the code involved, an investigation can ensue. At this point, others can attempt to reproduce what you have detailed. Thanks again for staying involved. Feel free to monitor and contribute to the issues as others continue to investigate. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1854982 Title: Lost compatibilty for backup between Ubuntu 19.10 and FreeBSD 12.0 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/zfs-linux/+bug/1854982/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1854982] Re: Lost compatibilty for backup between Ubuntu 19.10 and FreeBSD 12.0
So these pools were created with the Ubuntu Ubiquity ZFS installer? I missed that because the pool names are hardcoded to bpool and rpool and your message lists 'dpool/dummy' and 'zroot/hp-data/dummy' Also, in the linked email thread, you stated "The ZFS manual advised auto, if also using xattr=sa, so that is why I used auto for my own datapools/datasets." Now the origin of the pool is clearer to me. Yes I do see -O dnodesize=auto being set on (and inherited from) rpool in Ubiquity root zfs installation. This would impact the ease of sending to non- large_dnode pools (or in your case FreeBSD with large_dnode problems). Some simple tests to run: Within FreeBSD, I'd be really surprised if large_dnode=active to large_dnode=enabled/active zfs send/recv doesn't work, but I'd start there. Next, I'd try to send from FreeBSD large_dnode=active to Linux large_dnode=enabled/active. If it fails, what error is returned? Also, like rlaager stated, we should do the original Linux large_dnode=active to FreeBSD large_dnode=enabled/active that gave you problems. This all will give us evidence for bug reports in FreeBSD and/or ZOL upstreams. I'm on a mobile device, so can build examples, if requested, at a later time.

Yes, I'm on a dual-boot setup. [Bug 1850702] Re: [Samsung Notebook 7 Pro, Realtek ALC256, headphone jack] Headphone sound is faint and distorted
First of all, thanks for replying! I did this already when I noticed the problem a couple days ago with my main pair and with some gaming gear to no avail. But, since you asked, I did it again with all the wired headphones I could find around, even some crappy cellphone headphones and the results are the same: extremely low sound and heavily distorted. I even tried with a P2 cable extender and the problem remains, I'm 100% sure that it isn't my headphones. Also tried all those headphones and cable extender on Windows and everything works fine. (all of them work perfectly on other devices running Android, on my PS4 through the DualShock jack and with my smart TV) It's important to point out that I know of at least another user of this machine facing the same issue. He posted about HDMI output problems - that I can confirm on my laptop as well - on the Linux Mint (link down below) forums and I got in touch with him, so I don't think that this has something to do with the physical connection, specially since the distortion goes away for a bit if you delete the /.config/pulse directory. I didn't file a bug report about the HDMI output because it isn't as important as the headphone output for my workflow. https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=49&t=303303 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1850702 Title: [Samsung Notebook 7 Pro, Realtek ALC256, headphone jack] Headphone sound is faint and distorted To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/alsa-driver/+bug/1850702/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1850702] [NEW] No sound output with headphones
Public bug reported: I can't get sound of my laptop (Samsung Notebook 7 Force) through the headphone jack. The speakers work fine. When I plug a headphone, I can hear the sound being played very faintly. If I bump the volume to the maximum, that is. The sound is very distorted, like a buzz effect being applied over it. I noticed that if I delete /.config/pulse the distortion goes away, but the sound remains very low. After some time, the buzzing effect comes back. [Bug 1834566] Re: Samsung Notebook 9 Pro - Internal Speaker Playback problem - HDA Intel - Realtek ALC298
Here to also report that this issue persists on a newer Samsung laptop. The model in question is the Notebook 7 Force NP760XBE(Style S51 Pro on some countries) running 19.10. In my case, the speakers work fine, though. The problem only manifests itself through headphones: very faint and distorted sound. [Bug 1761619] [NEW] eventfd / poll interaction bug
Public bug reported: In 17.10, I'm running into a new problem. This didn't happen to me on 16.04. I have some code that uses eventfds to signal things, and the code is not working -- after writing the eventfd, it does not come back readable from another thread using poll(). Here's a snippet from strace: ``` eventfd2(0, 0) = 5 fstat(1, {st_mode=S_IFCHR|0620, st_rdev=makedev(136, 1), ...}) = 0 write(1, "OPEN FD 5\n", 10OPEN FD 5 ) = 10 write(5, "\1\0\0\0\0\0\0\0", 8) = 8 nanosleep({tv_sec=0, tv_nsec=1}, 0x7fffd0cea1a0) = 0 poll([{fd=5, events=POLLRDNORM}], 1, 100) = 0 (Timeout) ``` The write(1,... ) is debugging output. The nanosleep was intended to see if sleeping a bit before polling would help. Note that the write(5, ...) and the poll() come from different threads. Note that using two descriptors from a pipe() (which I do for other platforms) is fine, so this is some kind of issue specific to eventfd. Also, trying to reproduce this with a simpler single threaded program did not succeed. I'm wondering if there is some underlying cache synchronization problem? I'm testing this in a VMware Fusion virtual machine (Fusion 10.1.1) running on 2017 macbook pro (underlying OS is macOS 10.13). For now I'm going to switch back to pipes, since eventfd() seems unreliable -- if you can spot anything obviously wrong about the system call sequence above, I'd love to hear it. ** Affects: linux (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1761619 Title: eventfd / poll interaction bug To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1761619/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

This bug also affects me. Machine that "works" is a Dell Precision M6800 with BCM5880 smart card reader. Machine that doesn't "work" is Dell Precision 7710 with same reader. Same kernel version (4.4), same middleware, but the 7710 can't read the certificates from an inserted smart card. [Bug 1012178] [NEW] cronolog fails to keep symlink to newest log updated if previous link target is moved (patch included)
Public bug reported: Cronlog, when used with -S/-l or -P, fails to maintain a symlink to the newest logfile if the previous link target is moved. Consider a case where Apache writing out to cronolog: CustomLog "|/usr/sbin/cronolog -S /foo/access_log /foo/%Y/%m/%d/access_log" Now, if no one hits that site for a day or so, and your out-of-band log archiving processes go and compress the old log files, the symlink's broken; cronolog will subsequently fail to re-link /foo/access_log, though logs WILL be written to /foo/%Y/%m/%d Ultimately, this boils down to cronolog calling stat() against the symlink; stat() will return -1 on the broken link and skip the unlink() code; cronolog should be calling lstat(). Here's an example: gkuchta@ve:~/dev/cronolog$ mkdir -p 2012/06/11 gkuchta@ve:~/dev/cronolog$ echo "foo" > 2012/06/11/access_log gkuchta@ve:~/dev/cronolog$ ln -s 2012/06/11/access_log access_log gkuchta@ve:~/dev/cronolog$ gzip 2012/06/11/access_log gkuchta@ve:~/dev/cronolog$ ls -l total 4 drwxr-xr-x 3 gkuchta gkuchta 4096 2012-06-12 13:37 2012 lrwxrwxrwx 1 gkuchta gkuchta 21 2012-06-12 13:37 access_log -> 2012/06/11/access_log gkuchta@ve:~/dev/cronolog$ echo "bar" | /usr/bin/cronolog -S /home/gkuchta/dev/cronolog/access_log /home/gkuchta/dev/cronolog/%Y/%m/%d/access_log gkuchta@ve:~/dev/cronolog$ cat access_log cat: access_log: No such file or directory gkuchta@ve:~/dev/cronolog$ ls -l total 4 drwxr-xr-x 3 gkuchta gkuchta 4096 2012-06-12 13:37 2012 lrwxrwxrwx 1 gkuchta gkuchta 21 2012-06-12 13:37 access_log -> 2012/06/11/access_log gkuchta@ve:~/dev/cronolog$ find . . ./2012 ./2012/06 ./2012/06/11 ./2012/06/11/access_log.gz ./2012/06/12 ./2012/06/12/access_log ./access_log If we catch the error from symlink() we see what's happening. gkuchta@ve:~/scratch$ diff cronolog-1.6.2/src/cronoutils.c cronolog-1.6.2-patch/src/cronoutils.c 214c214,217 < symlink(pfilename, linkname); --- > if (symlink(pfilename, linkname) != 0) > { > perror("symlink"); > } gkuchta@ve:~/dev/cronolog$ mkdir -p 2012/06/11 gkuchta@ve:~/dev/cronolog$ echo "foo" > 2012/06/11/access_log gkuchta@ve:~/dev/cronolog$ ln -s 2012/06/11/access_log gkuchta@ve:~/dev/cronolog$ gzip 2012/06/11/access_log gkuchta@ve:~/dev/cronolog$ echo "bar" | /home/gkuchta/scratch/cronolog/sbin/cronolog -S /home/gkuchta/dev/cronolog/access_log /home/gkuchta/dev/cronolog/%Y/%m/%d/access_log symlink: File exists Here's what I believe to be the appropriate behavior.
