[Bug 1866994] Re: Screen backlight control not working on Dell XPS 15 7590

2020-03-13 Thread Ghislain Antony Vaillant
I have enabled focal-proposed and upgraded the linux-image package to
version 5.4.0-18. Backlight controls are now functional, both from the
keyboard and the GNOME status bar.

[Bug 1754937] [NEW] Upload spyder/3.2.6+dfsg1-2 to bionic

2018-03-11 Thread Ghislain Antony Vaillant
Public bug reported:

Please synchronize the spyder package in the next Ubuntu with version
3.2.6+dfsg1-2 recently uploaded to Debian unstable.

This version fixes a number of RCs which render the application
completely unusable for both Python 2 and Python 3. Changes between
version 3.2.6+dfsg1-1 and version 3.2.6+dfsg1-2 are very minimal, i.e.
some patching of the setuptools metadata.

Thanks,

@fgod1983

Download the .deb files for amd64 listed in http://kernel.ubuntu.com
/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v4.11.12/. Open a terminal in your download folder
and run `apt install ./linux*4.11.12*.deb`. After the install is
completed, reboot your laptop, and select kernel 4.11.12 in the grub
selection window early in the boot stage. You might have to press the
shift hey to display the kernel selection, which is hidden by default in
Ubuntu (plain purple window at boot).

No, since xserver-xorg-input-synaptics is not installed by default. Two-

Since these updates, I can no longer use two-finger scrolling but still
can enable edge-scrolling as a substitute.

I confirmed this. Installed and ran Atom from the snap package, and
indeed the icon appearing on the dock is noticeably blurry compared to
others. Same for VLC.

[Bug 1718590] Re: Atom installed as a snap doesn't show up in menus or in the terminal

2017-10-11 Thread Ghislain Antony Vaillant
This issue is not specific to Atom, it affects any GUI application
installed as a snap on a wayland session. I confirmed this with the snap
team in there support channel. It is supposed to be fixed with snapd
version 2.28.

Meanwhile, try logging in with the X session and you will find that the
applications are discoverable there.

[Bug 1722478] [NEW] Two-finger scrolling no longer works with Ubuntu 17.10

2017-10-10 Thread Ghislain Antony Vaillant
Public bug reported:

I own a Thinkpad T440p onto which I have had Debian 9 running without
hardware issues. I have recently installed Ubuntu 17.10 final beta to
test it out, but two-finger scrolling does not work at the moment. It
used to work out-of-the-box from the final beta iso, but a subsequent
update broke it.

Removal would probably be better and safe, assuming pyfftw has no

[Bug 1583328] Re: libfreeimage-dev: Static archove/library not included in package

2016-10-13 Thread Ghislain Antony Vaillant
Indeed, the description is misleading as the -dev package contains the
headers and development symlinks to the shared library, but no static
libraries.

Considering the number of security vulnerabilities freeimage suffered
from in the past, I am not in favor of providing a static build for it.
Appropriate resolution of this bug should therefore focus on a rewording
of the -dev package description.

[Bug 1614266] Re: Freeimage library does not write EXR files

2016-08-30 Thread Ghislain Antony Vaillant
Hi Milos,

Could you try building FreeImage 3.17.0 from source, run your example on
it and report whether the same problem occurs.

The major difference between the packaged FreeImage and the source one
is that the latter embeds its own dependencies whereas the former is
(quite heavily) patched to use the system libraries. Consequently, we
need to identify first whether the issue comes from the upstream code or
the packaged version.

Cheers,
Ghis

[Bug 1588863] [NEW] importing pyfftw fails with ImportError/undefined symbol fftwl_plan_with_nthreads

2016-06-03 Thread Ghislain Antony Vaillant
Public bug reported:

Forwarded from Debian-Bug#8626036.

The current version of the pyfftw package is currently unusable because
of a buggy patch. The latter should be replaced by the patch
accompanying this report. Please consider updating the current package
deployed in Ubuntu 16.04. Subsequent versions of Ubuntu will be fixed
with an upcoming update of the packaging on Debian.

Thanks,
Ghis

[Bug 1526497] [NEW] Cannot use VTK 6 in C++11 mode on Trusty

2015-12-15 Thread Ghislain Antony Vaillant
Public bug reported:

I am trying to build a C++11 library which requires VTK 6.

According to an upstream bug report [1], 6.0.0 cannot build in C++11
without the following fix [2]. Any possibility to have it cherry-picked
to the current package on trusty ?
