[Bug 2063049] Re: Google Chrome and Chromium 124 have a transparent window on Wayland

2024-05-02 Thread Guido Jakobs
I'm running 22.04LTS on an AMD 4700U with Wayland and I experience the same
result when starting Chromium Snap 124.0.6367.91.
A transparent/glitching window opens without seeing the actual browser.
When reverting to Chromium Snap 123.0.6312.58 I can use the browser again.

[Bug 1927857] Re: Update to grub 2.04-1ubuntu44 breaks booting

2021-06-21 Thread Guido
After another automatic software update of grub:

Extract from /var/log/apt/history.log

Start-Date: 2021-06-20  23:13:33
Commandline: aptdaemon role='role-commit-packages' sender=':1.135'
Upgrade: ..., grub-efi-amd64-signed:amd64 (1.167~18.04.3+2.04-1ubuntu44.1,
1.167~18.04.5+2.04-1ubuntu44.1.2), ...
End-Date: 2021-06-20  23:16:23

The grub,cfg on the EFI System Partition at
/boot/efi/EFI/Ubuntu/grub.cfg was replaced with a new version.

I had edited the old version to include a necessary 'cryptomount' as the
first line

Previous version
cryptomount -u
search.fs_uuid  root
lvmid/
set prefix=($root)'/grub'
configfile $prefix/grub.cfg

This was replaced by a grub.cfg that lacked the first line
search.fs_uuid  root
lvmid/
set prefix=($root)'/grub'
configfile $prefix/grub.cfg

This obviously prevents successful booting.

This did not happen on previous upgrades before this bug was raised, so
a breaking change* has occurred to the scripts that both generate a
working grub.cfg and place it in the relevant place. Anyone who doesn't
know their way around the grub command line and understand the use of
cryptomount and lvm would have a very difficult time resolving the
problem.

The quick resolution is
1) At the grub> prompt enter 'cryptomount -a', and provide the necessary
passphrase
2) Point linux at the correct place: linux (lvm/>)/
3) Point initrd at the correct place: initrd (lvm/
4) boot
5) Edit the new grub.cfg or replace with the old one.

*The breaking change appears to be that the script no longer correctly handles
the encrypted partition.

[Bug 1927853] Re: Update to grub 2.04-1ubuntu44 breaks booting

2021-05-09 Thread Guido
Thanks for the swift update, Chris. As you say, it looks like an issue
with grub2. The end of support for this particular Lubuntu flavour had
slipped my mind. Sigh.

Looking at the /boot/efi/EFI/ubuntu/grub.cfg I see

  After subsequent shutdown, system fails to reboot correctly, leaving me

  System is UEFI
  HD is partitioned with ESP partition and encrypted partition.
  Encrypted partition contains lvm volumes (lvm-boot, lvm-root, lvm-home, etc)

  cryptomount makes lvm volumes accessible. Setting linux and initrd to

[Bug 1876711] [NEW] installation 20.04 crashed while installing GRUB

2020-05-04 Thread Guido Buitendijk
Public bug reported:

Installing over 18.04.14, using the two /sda's it was using.

!UpgradeStatus! The previous Ubuntu version was the 32-bits version of
18.04, so that's why there is no upgrade log, it was indeed a fresh
install to make the switch to 64-bits.

[Bug 1860268] Re: window titlebar is disturbed on all non-maximized windows

2020-01-19 Thread Guido Jäkel
Also, some other desktop elements like tooltips, drop down lists or even
the selection rubberband box of the screenshot feature are affected. It
seems, that the the similarity of this is a comparable small *height*.
The rubberband selection for instance is disturbed, if the enclosed
height is about less than a few lines and this is totally independent
from the width.

For comparison, I create some squares with a bitmap editor: The quirks
seems to have "shifted" band sections with a height of 8px. It
disappear, if the height reaches about 8*8px. More exact, it aligned to
height mod 8 and disappear, if (upper-lower) mod 8 >= 8.

[Bug 1860268] [NEW] window titlebar is disturbed on all non-maximized windows

2020-01-19 Thread Guido Jäkel
Public bug reported:

* After todays package update, the window titlebar area of all windows is
rendered in a disturbed way.
* Package update include a kernel change to 5.3 from 5.0. The bug is not
related to the kernel; it also happen with the last one. Therefore, it's
related to the new graphic packages.
* This don't happen if the window is maximized.
* This was also on a second PC with idential hardware (Dell 755 & Radeon video
card)

[Bug 1841397] [NEW] Kernel BUG/Oops: tc qdisc delete with tc filter action xt -j CONNMARK

2019-08-25 Thread Guido Sarducci
Public bug reported:

Overview:
=

Several uses of "tc filter .. action xt" work as expected and also allow
final qdisc/filter deletion: e.g. xt_DSCP and xt_CLASSIFY.

However, trying to delete a qdisc/filter using xt_CONNMARK results in a
kernel oops or hang/crash on all platforms and kernel versions tested.

Steps to Reproduce:
===

# tc qdisc add dev lo clsact
# tc filter add dev lo egress protocol ip matchall action xt -j CONNMARK
--save-mark
# tc qdisc del dev lo clsact

Systems Tested:
===

Ubuntu 18.04 LTS (mainline kernel 5.2.6-050206-generic/x86_64, iptables 1.6.1,
iproute2 4.15)
(Kernel build: https://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v5.2.6/)

Ubuntu 18.04 LTS (distro kernel 4.15.0-58-generic/x86_64, iptables
1.6.1, iproute2 4.15)

External Tracking:
==

This bug is also tracked upstream at
https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=204681, with logs.
There is also a proposed fix.

[Bug 1791983] [NEW] kill -TERM exitcode regression 16.04

2018-09-11 Thread Guido U. Draheim
Public bug reported:

I had a regression error in one of my testsuites.
https://github.com/gdraheim/docker-systemctl-replacement/issues/43

After investigating I did find that the command "kill -TERM" behaves
different in Ubuntu 16.04 in comparison to all other Ubuntu versions and
in comparison to all other tested Linux distributions (opensuse,centos).

> "kill -TERM" does report an exitcode=0 (OK) where it should say
failed.

Note that the testsuite of coreutils does define a behaviour of not-ok at
http://git.savannah.gnu.org/cgit/coreutils.git/tree/tests/misc/kill.sh

There you can see

# params required
returns_ 1 env kill || fail=1
returns_ 1 env kill -TERM || fail=1

However this is the result tested with the available docker images

   == kill
 ubuntu:14.04 => 1
 ubuntu:16.04 => 1
 ubuntu:18.04 => 1
 ubuntu:18.10 => 1
   == kill -TERM
 ubuntu:14.04 => 1
 ubuntu:16.04 => 0
 ubuntu:18.04 => 1
 ubuntu:18.10 => 1

I am attaching the testscript that shows the results above.

[Bug 1502155] Re: [20AQ0069GE, Realtek ALC3232, Speaker, Internal] crackling sound while booting Unity-Desktop

2018-08-03 Thread Guido Sanchez
This solved the issue for me:
https://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2338349

Basically, what I did was

Start alsamixer with this command:

alsamixer -c1

And then:

1. Navigate to the Loopback channel rightmost with arrow-key
2. Disable the Channel by pressing the arrow-down-key once
3. Save and quit the alsamixer with ESC

Reboot.

[Bug 1781654] [NEW] No way of displaying a tooltip in fallback mode

2018-07-13 Thread Guido Berhoerster
Public bug reported:

Current status notifier/application indicator implementations such as
KDE Plasma or the Xfce Status Notifier Plugin display the indicators
"title" and "icon-desc" or "attention-icon-desc" properties in a
tooltip. In fallback mode, i.e. when the icon is a tray icon, does not
show a tooltip and neither provides an API to make use of the tooltip
functionality of the GtkStatusIcon.

This is specifically a problem for my project package-update-indicator
which notifies of available package updates with an icon. If users miss
the associated notification or do not use a notification daemon it is
rather confusing without a tooltip providing the name of the indicator
it belongs to as well as an brief explanation like "Updates available".

I've created a patch which replicates the behavior of KDE Plasma or the
Xfce Status Notifier Plugin in fallback mode by displaying a tooltip
with the contents of the "title" and "icon-desc" or "attention-icon-
desc".

[Bug 1748785] [NEW] Title Bar Buttons Obscured by Garbage

2018-02-11 Thread guido
Public bug reported:

Gnome Terminal application has title bar upper right corner buttons
obscured by an overlaid "chrome frame fragment". The buttons do,
however, function. Please note. This annoying decoration has been around
in Ubuntu for *many* years! Currently looking at the daily live build
installed 2018 Feb 11.

/r/funny's anti circlejerk does nothing to stop the actual circlejerk.
It just doesnt work because the people that participate in the

To be fair i would be anti anti circlejerking right now, so theres no

[Bug 1734447] [NEW] BN_cmp regards negative and positive zero as different numbers

2017-11-25 Thread Guido
Public bug reported:

"BN_cmp() returns -1 if a < b, 0 if a == b and 1 if a > b." (
https://wiki.openssl.org/index.php/Manual:BN_cmp(3) )

The libcrypto.a shipped with Ubuntu makes a distinction between a
negative 0 ("-0") and a positive zero ("0"). This means that BN_cmp(-0,
0) returns -1 and BN_cmp(0, -0) returns 1. The latest versions of
OpenSSL (1.0.2m and 1.1.0g) both return 0 for both comparisons, which is
what you would expect.

lsb_release -rd:

Description:Ubuntu 16.04.3 LTS
Release:16.04

Tested on both the 32 bit and 64 bit versions of this Ubuntu release.

Attached is a proof of concept.

The anomaly may also be caused by BN_dec2bn rather than BN_cmp.

The bug is unlikely to have direct security consequences, but may cause
unexpected behaviour in other applications that depend on this
widespread library.

That looks sane.

That still doesn't. Does running under valgrind's memcheck yield
anything?

valgrind /usr/bin/krb5-auth-dialog

It might make sense to either build with debugging symbpols or install
the distro's krb5-auth-dialog-dbsym package.

[Bug 1700468] Re: "krb5-auth-dialog --auto" segfaults on startup

2017-06-27 Thread Guido Günther
I can't reproduce here neither when linked against MIT (as in Debian)
nor against heimdal (as in Xenial). Can you do a

G_MESSAGES_DEBUG=all ./src/krb5-auth-dialog -a

maybe this shows s.th. interesting before the crash.

But it seems ka_krb5_context_init got called (you can check
kcontext_valid == TRUE) so in this case it got corrupted. Any chance you
can check 3.20?

[Bug 1633207] Re: VM fails to start with dac security driver added

2016-10-28 Thread Guido Günther
dfbc9a83 was necessary since libvirt changed the paths of the monitor
socket in a89f05ba8df095875f5ec8a9065a585af63a010b. We had to switch
from VIR_DOMAIN_DEF_PARSE_INACTIVE to active since we need the domain id
(ctl->def->id) as it is part of the socket path now. It would probably
o.k. to skip validation but we need to parse the active domain config to
get the id.

[Bug 1520519] Re: ASUS ROG GL552 TouchPad not detected

2016-02-16 Thread Guido Granda Muñoz
Hello ,
Sorry on my latest message I said that the kernel 4.5rc4 didn't work, but it is
working, I just forgot to change the grub and updated as indicated above:
nouveau.modeset=0 acpi_osi=! acpi_backlight=native idle=nomwait

Now the mouse pad is working, also the sound, and the wifi card can be
fixed. I hope everything stay this way.

Cheers,

Hello again,

Thanks for your response, can you please tell me what you mean with:

""After doing dnf update, you can remove few parameters to get

"nouveau.modeset=0 acpi_osi=! acpi_backlight=native idle=nomwait " ""

Were should put these parameters ? Do you mean modify a file or sth similar
?

[Bug 1520519] Re: ASUS ROG GL552 TouchPad not detected

2015-12-25 Thread Guido Granda Muñoz
Hello Guys,

I also have exactly the same problem. I tryed using different linux
distributions
- ubuntu 14.04.3; sound is not working, mousepad neither, mouse crash from
time to time, video card is not working propertly, it runs videos too fast and
without audio eventhought I instaled -nVIDIA drivers.
- ubuntu-mate.15.10 ; I can't even star ubuntu after installation.
- fedora 23; This is the distributuion that looks working better than the
others, the problem here stills the mouse pad detection.
