[Bug 1081925] Re: LVM2 support missing (update-request)

Upstream package now at 0.14.1

It does seem strange that the Ubuntu Wiki page on LVM states that
partitions can be formatted for LVM use with Gparted, but Ubuntu fails
to provide a version of Gparted that will actually do this.

[Bug 617278] [NEW] Openoffice 3.2.1 not installable

2010-08-13 Thread IanW
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: openoffice.org

Latest update on Maverick (1:3.2.1-5ubuntu1) is not installable due to
missing dependencies.

Error message:-

openoffice.org-common:
Depends: openoffice.org-style-default or openoffice.org-style

Neither package exists in synaptic, nor does the Launchpad package page state
that they have been built.
Only styles available are:-

openoffice.org-style-andromeda
openoffice.org-style-crystal
openoffice.org-style-galaxy
openoffice.org-style-hicontrast
openoffice.org-style-human
openoffice.org-style-insustrial
openoffice.org-style-oxygen
openoffice.org-style-tango

Changelog on Launchpad contains this:-
 - add openoffice.org-style-human package and makes openoffice.org-gtk to
recommend it instead of the tango one.

Perhaps dependency should read openoffice.org-style-human instead of
just openoffice.org-style?

[Bug 421787] [NEW] [Kubuntu][Karmic] No sources available for wallpapers, icons, etc.

2009-08-31 Thread IanW
Public bug reported:

In Jaunty, the Desktop settings used to offer two dialogues, one for
wallpapers and another for themes. Both these included a browser to view
content from kde-look.org. There was also a similar dialogue in System
Settings for adding icon sets.

These dialogues are there in Karmic Alpha 4, but don't do anything: it
looks as though the list of options -- where there used to be a single
option for kde-look.org -- is unpopulated and so there is nothing to
browse.

[Bug 421383] [NEW] USB devices not visible - Kubuntu, Karmic, Kernel 2.6.31.8

2009-08-30 Thread IanW
Public bug reported:

Under kernel 2.6.31.8 (Kubuntu Karmic alpha 4), plugging a device into a
USB port does not make any changes to /dev/ (e.g., /dev/sdb fails to
appear when I insert of USB memory stick) and the Kubuntu device
notifier similarly fails to spot the device. Using kernel 2.6.31.5 (the
only other I have on my system) this problem is not there - when I plug
in a USB device it is recognized properly, and a new item appears in
/dev/.

When I plug in a USB device under 2.6.31.8, the only clue that anything
has happened at all is a small mention in dmesg:

[ 131.940108] usb 1-1: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 6
[ 132.078805] usb 1-1: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choices

dimdim is also at Debian WNPP.
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=486881

dimdim license is now GPLv3 as of December 2008
If you are developing and distributing open source software under the GNU
General Public License v3 (“GPLv3”), then you are free to use Dimdim under the
GPLv3 License.

[Bug 384452] Re: why do i have to run sudo dhclient eth0 everytime i had to got to internet

2009-06-09 Thread IanW
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we can't fix it because your description
didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful to read How
to report bugs effectively
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures

At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem, including the method you used to install 9.04 and the steps you take
to connect to the network,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

[Bug 278965] Re: mail-notification unable to contact evolution

2009-05-20 Thread IanW
If your mail-notification applet cannot communicate with evolution in
Jaunty, please try the workaround in bug 355209 .

If the workaround succeeds, then you have bug 355209. We can merge the
bugs and further discussion on it should be in that bug report.

If the workaround fails, please let us know if further information for
triaging this bug will be available. If no further information will be
available, we will eventually close this bug report due to lack of
information to locate the bug.

[Bug 355209] Re: The Evolution plugin for Mail Notification doesn't work/exist

2009-04-27 Thread IanW
Confirmed the problem.
In mail-notification 5.4 in Ubuntu Jaunty (9.04), the following files are
installed to /usr/lib/evolution/2.24/plugins/ instead of
/usr/lib/evolution/2.26/plugins/:
liborg-jylefort-mail-notification.so
org-jylefort-mail-notification.eplug

A simple workaround:
1) Copy or link the files to the correct directory:
sudo ln -s /usr/lib/evolution/2.24/plugins/org-jylefort-mail-notification.eplug
/usr/lib/evolution/2.26/plugins/
sudo ln -s /usr/lib/evolution/2.24/plugins/liborg-jylefort-mail-notification.so
/usr/lib/evolution/2.26/plugins/

2) Restart evolution and go to Edit - Plugins - Jean-Yves Lefort's
Mail Notification. Check the box.

3) Right-click on the Mail-Notification icon - Properties. Add your
evolution e-mailbox.

Thank you for taking the time to make Ubuntu better.

Marking as a duplicate of bug 264789 . That bug report includes a workaround.
The kernel bug that caused this problem should be fixed in Ubuntu 9.04
(Jaunty), so do feel free to try it.

If you still have this problem under 9.04, please log in to Launchpad.net and
remove the duplicate flag.
If the problem is resolved, then do nothing; Launchpad Janitor will close out
the bug report.

[Bug 356641] Re: won't download or upload files

2009-04-08 Thread IanW
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we can't fix it because your description
didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful to read How
to report bugs effectively
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures

At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately we can't fix it without more information.

Please include the following additional information, if you have not already
done so (pay attention to lspci's additional options), as required by the
Ubuntu Kernel Team:
1. Please include the output of the command uname -a in your next response.
It should be one, long line of text which includes the exact kernel version
you're running, as well as the CPU architecture.
2. Please run the command dmesg dmesg.log after a fresh boot and attach the
resulting file dmesg.log to this bug report.
3. Please run the command sudo lspci -vvnn lspci-vvnn.log and attach the
resulting file lspci-vvnn.log to this bug report.

[Bug 355711] Re: NOT solved. https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+question/49739

2009-04-05 Thread IanW
Thanks for taking the time to make Ubuntu better.

If you're looking for support to get your webcam working with Skype,
then filing a bug against the software will be a slow and painful
experience for you. The Launchpad bug tracking system is intended for
software bugs that can be fixed by developers, and each bug report must
include enough information about the bug to be useful. It doesn't work
very well for support questions.

The workaround in https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+question/49739
really does work, but it's not easy and can be very frustrating if
you've never compiled software before. You can get much faster and more
effective support with the workaround in the two official support
channels: At ubuntuforums.org or on IRC at irc.freenode.net #ubuntu.

The real, fixable bug (broken support for many webcams - take a look at
bug 255678, for example) is being worked on.

If you feel that your issue (webcam not working) is covered by bug
255678 or another existing bug, please click the 'Affects Me Too' link
on that bug so you will be notified when it is fixed. And please reply
to this bug report so we can close it.

If you feel that your issue is new and not covered by an existing bug
report, that you have uncovered a new bug, then we'd be grateful if you
would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures

At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).

Thanks!

[Bug 355278] Re: Gnome freezes frequently when doing anything

2009-04-05 Thread IanW
Thanks for taking the time to make Ubuntu better.

During a freeze, please try RIGHT ALT + SYSREQ + K and let us know if it
restarts X for you.
If it works, then it's an X issue. If not, then it would seem to be a kernel
issue.

If it's an X issue, please attach your X server configuration file
(/etc/X11/xorg.conf) and X server log file (/var/log/Xorg.0.log) to the
bug report as individual uncompressed file attachments using the
Attachment: box below. Could you please also try to run without any
/etc/X11/xorg.conf and let Xorg autodetect your display and video card?
Please also attach the /var/log/Xorg.0.log from this attempt.

If it's a kernel issue, then please include the following additional
information, if you have not already done so (pay attention to lspci's
additional options), as required by the Ubuntu Kernel Team:
1. Please include the output of the command uname -a in your next response.
It should be one, long line of text which includes the exact kernel version

3. Please run the command sudo lspci -vvnn lspci-vvnn.log and attach the
resulting file lspci-vvnn.log to this bug report.

detailed...are you using Gnome, KDE, XFCE, are you using a command or
clicking a panel or icon? If clicking a panel launcher, please open it's
properties and tell us what command it executes. How can we reproduce

Please try to copy the error message and codes exactly, and tell us if
they occur consistently or intermittently.

This information will help us to find and resolve the problem.

[Bug 340244] Re: package exim4-config 4.69-5ubuntu2 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 1

2009-04-05 Thread IanW

Thanks for taking the time to make Ubuntu better.

From the log:

Setting up exim4-config (4.69-5ubuntu2) ...
debconf: DbDriver config: /var/cache/debconf/config.dat is locked by another
process: Resource temporarily unavailable
dpkg: error processing exim4-config (--configure):
subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 1

This appears due to a concurrent access to the debconf database. This is
usually a very temporary and not reproducible situation. If you can reproduce
it then use the following command to find the culprit:
fuser -v /var/cache/debconf/config.dat

If you are unable to reproduce the issue, please let us know so we can
close the bug report.

Thanks in advance

[Bug 354931] Re: 3 digital camers one mounts two others have problems

2009-04-05 Thread IanW

For your reference, the full description of procedures for kernel-
related bug reports is available at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelTeamBugPolicies Thanks in advance!

[Bug 354246] Re: Wireless connection disconnected after hibernate or suspend

2009-04-05 Thread IanW
Thanks for taking the time to make Ubuntu better.

1) When you wake up your machine and let it sit idle for two minutes,
does Network Manager try to connect to a wireless network?

2) If not, then what method exactly are you using to check the
connection? How can we duplicate what you are seeing?

Thanks in advance

[Bug 352725] Re: Opening attachment with eml extension

2009-04-05 Thread IanW
Thank you for taking the time to make Ubuntu better.

Do you mean .eml Microsoft Outlook Express files or attachments?
If so, please take a look at http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=45838 for
a couple possible workarounds for users of both Thunderbird and Evolution.

Since this is not specifically a bug in an Ubuntu application (Outlook
Express .eml files are not intended to be migratable to other systems),
please let us know if the workaround succeeds or not.

Thanks in advance

[Bug 350745] Re: Solved bugs are still hanging around as default

2009-04-02 Thread IanW
Thank you for taking the time to improve Ubuntu.

Ubuntu relies on volunteers to triage bugs, including closing resolved
bugs. If you find a bug that really is resolved, you can change the
status to reflect it. For more information about bug status, and how you
can help, please take a look at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/BugSquad/KnowledgeBase . You can get fast and
knowledgable answers and mentoring about bug triaging on IRC at
irc.freenode.net #ubuntu-bugs

In the case of bug 95886, the problem does indeed have an easy
workaround, but the bug itself does not appear to be resolved (patched
or obviated by a newer version), so it's still a valid bug.

Since your issue is more of a bug methodology question than a patchable
bug in an Ubuntu package, I'm closing it.

[ 20.928295] eth1: Radio is disabled by RF switch.

1) Do you really have a wireless switch? If so, is it 'on' when you boot into

(If so, this report is a possible duplicate of bug 193790. )

2) What is the result of the command: $sudo iwconfig eth1 essid any
