[Bug 969422] Re: cannot save connection without specifying a gateway
I accept this decision but I completely disagree with it. Forbidding me entering a totally valid configuration for whatever reason but forcing me to enter an invalid one absolutely does not sound right to me. Analyzing the use case also does not tell me this is a right solution. Those without strong knowledge of networking will most probably ask someone else what data to enter (how the heck could they figure it out themselves), so most probably they will be told the gateway address as well. So what this feature is protecting them is that when they enter the addresses they were told they simply forget one of them. I find it very unlikely. Also they could do a lot other mistakes there - entering wrong numbers, swapping the ip and the gw addresses, etc. Also, what if they really do not have a gw address for that interface? There is absolutely no indication that that is the reason for the button to be disabled. It took me 10 minutes to figure it out. At least please enable the button and complain about the missing gw when it is pressed. I could also accept that the gw is required for the _first_ interface, but not for additional ones (like in my case). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/969422 Title: cannot save connection without specifying a gateway To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/network-manager-applet/+bug/969422/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 969823] [NEW] software center does not find packages
Public bug reported: To install nfs client support on my PC I typed nfs into the software- center's search bar. Only 3 results came up: - JFTP - A practical guide to Ubuntu... - LinuxUser Ausgabe* but no NFS related packages. When I type nfs- (without the quotes) into the search bar, then the NFS related packages come up correctly. They should appear when typing just nfs. It is not straightforward that one has to add the - for these results. Reproduce: 1. start software center 2. type nfs into the search bar 3. observe the missing NFS packages 4. type nfs- into the search bar 4. observe the NFS packages. [Bug 969422] [NEW] cannot save connection without specifying a gateway
Public bug reported: I have a dedicated network adapter in my computer that is directly connected to my nas (no router/switch involved). Both have a dedicated IP address. When I want to set up the connection, it insists on specifying a gateway address. As the two are connected directly there is no gateway and it does not even makes sense. However without a gateway address specified the connection cannot be saved. Re: [Bug 768925] Re: Launcher: localise Super+number ordering to match locale keyboard layout (eg. 0-9 for Hungarian)

[Bug 772616] [NEW] Suspend/Resume does not work
Public bug reported: Suspend/Resume used to work correctly in Maverick (i.e. it worked 9 times out of 10 which I considered correct). Since the upgrade to Natty it works properly after a fresh reboot (i.e. for the first time), but it does not work for the second time, when the system was already suspended+resumed before. In this case during suspend time (after pressing the suspend button on the keyboard) the screen goes blank (black), it no longer responds to pings on the network, but the system does not stop (i.e. fans are still going, no shutdown feeling). The only way I could find to get the system out of this state is by pressing the power button for 5 secs which completely turns the PC off, and then I can turn it on again but this does not play very nicely with my raid array. Pls let me know what other info is needed to resolve this issue. I am not sure if this belongs to the linux package or not but I could not file a bug directly against Natty as a distro. Mathias: before setting a bug to invalid I would suggest to at least wait for some feedback from the original problem reporter (This time it was me). [Bug 112023] File transfer to windows hangs
Public bug reported: Possibly this is since an upgrade from edgy to feisty, I am not exactly sure. On my linux host I have a vmware running windows xp as guest. In some cases when I try to transfer a file from linux to xp, the file transfer hangs - the destination file on windows is created but absolutely no data is moved (in windows the Copying dialog is shown (with the fancy animation going on) but the progess bar remains in the 0 position). After a few minutes windows says The specified network name is no longer available and the transfer is aborted. If meanwhile I strace the smbd process handling this connection, it hangs in this syscall: myhost:~% sudo strace -p 9846 Process 9846 attached - interrupt to quit pause() - Browsing the directories work without problems - Browsing and transferring files from other samba shares (on other computers) also work - Transferring the problematic file using smbclient running on the host also works.
