[Bug 390392] Re: regression - resume failure in Jaunty on Dell Latitude D820
Sorry, my daily computing experience is now on a MacBook Pro rather than my old laptop, and thus on OSX rather than Ubuntu. I had upgraded it to lucid but wasn't sure if the problem was still there. Just dug out the laptop and updated everything now: $ sudo aptitude update ... $ sudo aptitude safe-upgrade ... $ lsb_release -d Description:Ubuntu 10.04.1 LTS I've suspended and resumed 5 times now without any issue. Similarly, no problem with hibernate. -- regression - resume failure in Jaunty on Dell Latitude D820 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/390392 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 390392] Re: regression - resume failure in Jaunty on Dell Latitude D820
** Description changed: I upgraded from Intrepid to Jaunty today. Resume has not worked since then (tried 5 times). I tried running the test script [1] - fails to resume. The problem seen is that a resume attempt appears to happen, but the screen remains black, intermittent light disk activity, unable to switch to virtual terminal and keyboard input appears to be ignored. This is a regression. Suspend / hibernate and resume were working fine before the upgrade. I reported a previous problem when upgrading from - hoary to intrepid, which was previously fixed by some update. + gutsy to hardy, which was previously fixed by some unknown update. This bug is reproducible. It has failed to resume 5 out of 5 times. It worked before the upgrade. No flashing CAPS or anything - the only time I've seen that is when I upgraded the memory on the laptop and didn't seat the module properly. $ lsb_release -d Description: Ubuntu 9.04 [1] https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelTeam/SuspendResumeTesting -- regression - resume failure in Jaunty on Dell Latitude D820 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/390392 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Yeah, understandable. It only happened when I upgraded the distro at home and the icons on my desktop representing work samba shares caused nautilus to crash. I'm having trouble getting a backtrace working. I guess it's a missing dependency which I'm trying to track down. There isn't a firefox-dbg package available, or libnss3-0d-dbg. There is firefox-dbgsym and libnss3-0d-dbgsym. Have the packages been renamed or are the ones I require genuinely missing? When I do firefox -g 21 | tee ~/Desktop/gdb-firefox.log It doesn't go into gdb. Instead, the Restore Session prompt comes up, the app runs and crashes. [Bug 224952] Re: Firefox 3.0 Beta 5 crashed when playing video
I'm having problems creating a backtrace. There doesn't appear to be a firefox-dbg package available? https://wiki.ubuntu.com/MozillaTeam/Bugs?highlight=(mozilla#head- c576e78d92cb3c959c271158b6ace98be835de83 Also, there still isn't a .crash file generated for me to post. The problem does consistently occur when I create a new Profile using the -ProfileManage switch. I've attached another strace for that one, which is smaller and hopefully easier to use. Is it worthwhile trying to figure out why I'm not seeing a crash file generated that apport can use? [Bug 224952] [NEW] Firefox 3.0 Beta 5 crashed when playing video

I've seen other reports asking for the contents of /var/crash. I don't have anything in there. The problem is consistently reproducible on my machine, so I should be able to supply more information if someone can tell me what to look for; e.g. dpkg selections, firefox Content-Type application associations or something else that might point to the problem. This machine was a vanilla 7.10 install, recently upgraded to 8.04. Nothing obviously enlightening when running the process from the CLI either. [Bug 219695] Re: Ethernet card not working after update
I don't appear to have an earlier version of a kernel to try, when looking at grub. [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ cat /boot/grub/menu.lst snip... ## ## End Default Options ## title Ubuntu 7.10, kernel 2.6.22-14-generic root(hd0,0) kernel /vmlinuz-2.6.22-14-generic root=UUID=275d2407-f5a0-49f0-8bcd-3547cd1d78ea ro quiet splash initrd /initrd.img-2.6.22-14-generic quiet title Ubuntu 7.10, kernel 2.6.22-14-generic (recovery mode) root(hd0,0) kernel /vmlinuz-2.6.22-14-generic root=UUID=275d2407-f5a0-49f0-8bcd-3547cd1d78ea ro single initrd /initrd.img-2.6.22-14-generic title Ubuntu 7.10, memtest86+ root(hd0,0) kernel /memtest86+.bin quiet ### END DEBIAN AUTOMAGIC KERNELS LIST But then, I don't have any other versions when I look at my home desktop running 7.10. I'm reasonably sure that it used to keep old kernels lying around, and just insert the new one into the menu.lst options. Presumably that behaviour has changed to just keep pointing at the most recent version, and delete the old ones? I'm not running the latest BIOS[ 1]; I'm on A06, so I'm going to try upgrading that and see if it has any effect. But this does appear to be a regression or conflict of some sort, since it was working, then I did an update, and now it's not working. [Bug 219695] [NEW] Ethernet card not working after update
Public bug reported: Dell Latitude D820. Blank install of 7.10, with custom partitioning. When the install had finished, I was able to sudo aptitude update sudo aptitude safe-upgrade. That gave me a kernel update and various other stuff, so I needed to reboot. Upon restarting, the ethernet card doesn't work; it was working previously, since I downloaded the updates over my LAN, but the wireless card is fine, so I can still get on my home network. Unfortunately, this installation of Ubuntu came about after a year of suffering on Windows Vista at work and I'd finally got my boss to agree to me migrating to Ubuntu. But if networking doesn't work, then I'm left looking a little foolish and buggered. We don't have wireless in the office, so I need the ethernet card to work. vanilla, untouched /etc/network/interfaces: [EMAIL PROTECTED]:/var/log$ cat /etc/network/interfaces auto lo iface lo inet loopback Attaching syslog snippet showing me on the wireless connection at home, then plugging in the network cable, letting it bork my network connection, and then unplugging again so that the wireless connection is restored. I'm going to try rolling back the kernel via grub options, and see how that affects things. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Ethernet card not working after update https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/219695 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
