[Bug 425466] Re: [karmic] vpnc connections not connecting

2009-09-16 Thread Jithin Emmanuel
I am using knetworkmanager in arch also. Here also the behavior is same
nothing happens on clicking the vpn connection icon. My only guess is
that knetworkmanager enables you to setup and configure vpnc connections
but don't allow to connect at all(pretty much stupid) .

Though I changed distro I am willing to provide any information you
need.

[Bug 421371] Re: timestamp mismatch of fs superblock at file system check

2009-09-08 Thread Jithin Emmanuel
In several bugs I have seen marking as duplicate. I really do not understand
why it is marked as invalid when I am facing the same bug. I didnt know that
the policy changed to one bug per person. If this was announced earlier I would
not have wasted my time on this bug,
So does that also imply there is no point in searching for existing bug report
and users should always open new ones.

[Bug 424235] [NEW] pidgin wrong tray icon size for 22*22

2009-09-04 Thread Jithin Emmanuel
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: pidgin-data

Because of this bug https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/pidgin/+bug/408744
in /usr/share/pixmaps/pidgin/tray I have 48 symlinked to 22 so that it displays
correctly in my kde system tray.
[../pixmaps/pidgin/tray]$ ll
total 16
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4096 2009-09-04 05:49 16
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4096 2009-09-04 06:34 22

drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4096 2009-08-25 18:12 48.bak

After todays update to i.6.1 suddenly my icons got bigger. Then I downloaded
the pidgin-data from https://launchpad.net/~pidgin-developers/+archive/ppa

And extracted the 22 tray icons and replaced with the icons from karmic
pidgin-data package. Then it resulted in correct size icons in system
tray. So I guess the 22 icons shipped with karmic are wrong.

I am seeing one more behavior. If the system is in sleep for more that
say half an hour, then when waking it up the kdm login screen does not
even appear. Its pure black. But if I enter my password based on an
assumption, it seems to be working then when I move my cursor it changes
when it passes my notes in desktop. But at this point I cannot even log
out. Only thing I can do is do a VT switch and reboot.

[Bug 422669] Re: [karmic] suspend to ram broken in kubuntu

2009-09-02 Thread Jithin Emmanuel
The behavior is changing. This time its more like comment 3.I am only
getting the black screen. I did a VT switch and changed back. At this
point it completely froze. Only sysrq RSEIUB was working. After this I
ssh'ed from another host and took he xorg logs.

After this my system refuses to boot in the first try. It says fsck
failed as super block write time is in future. and asks to run fsck
manually. I have been noticing this fsck for a long time, when ever I
have to uses sysreq keys because of this issue.

ksshaskpass is asking for both kwallet password and ssh passphrase, when
I have added ssh-add during kde login.

But this does not happens always , I am not sure what triggers it.In
kwallet I can see that there is an entry for ksshaskpass with my
passphrase stored.

I found a work around for this bug.

pwd

drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4096 2009-08-25 18:12 16
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4096 2009-08-25 18:12 22

lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root3 2009-08-25 18:54 48 - 22/
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4096 2009-08-25 18:12 48.bak

creating a symlink for 48 to 22 fixes the issue.

[Bug 414324] Re: [karmic] Wireless Once disconnected knetworkmanager prompts with empty password field

2009-08-24 Thread Jithin Emmanuel
It's a different issue. Please see the screen shot. networkmanager knows
the password and uses it for re-connection .If for some reason it could
not connect then it prompts the user with the window in screen shot. But
if I click cancel at this point and click on network icon once its up it
reconnects.

Its just that when it prompts user it should have the passpharse
populated. Its a different issue from the bug report. Its more of a
usability. People will get confused when they are prompted with an empty
passphrase dialogue wondering if the passpharse is wrong and they have
to re enter it or not.

I sometimes find knetworkmanager crashing - although I haven't yet found

[Bug 411758] [NEW] [karmic] arora annoying popup blocker behaviour

2009-08-10 Thread Jithin Emmanuel
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: arora

In kubunu after an update last week arora's popup blocking is highly
annoying.

It opens the popup in new tab, switches focus to that tab and then
closes the popup tab and then switches back to the original tab from
where the popup was opened.

[Bug 294972] Re: MASTER: xorg high cpu usage, general system sluggishness

2009-08-06 Thread Jithin Emmanuel
I am using kubuntu karmic and seeing one issue of high cpu usage after
*suspend to ram*.

On resuming from sleep. CPU usage remained high for application xorg,
firefox-3.5, kmail and ktorrent for about 15 minutes.
Total usage was about 66 % . After this cpu usage fell back to normal levels.

Is this related to this bug only or should I open a new one?

[Bug 409797] [NEW] [karmic kubuntu] high cpu usage after suspend to ram

2009-08-06 Thread Jithin Emmanuel
Public bug reported:

Not sure if this needs to be applied against firefox or xserver. Please
change if needed.

After I did a sleep(suspend to ram) My applications kmail,firefox-3.5,
ktorrent and xorg was consuming high cpu usage with xorg and firefox
leading the pack. After around 15 mins. It stabilised and cpu usage of
all processes returned to normal , like before I did sleep.

But even after that when ever I use firefox-3.5 (like normal browsing)
there is a spike in cpu usage.

It seems that firefox-3.5 might not be the culprit. Same problem with

My guess is that after sleep something is going wrong with xserver and
networking applications.

[Bug 408747] [NEW] [karmic] kopete connection error after reconnection

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kopete

On normal usage after 3 - 4 hours kopete yahoo gets disconnected. After this
even though it reconnects immediately. No messages go through.
I can see the yahoo contacts and I receive messages from my contacts, But if I
reply back they are not getting.

Its shows in kopete the replies I am sending but in reality the receiver
is not receiving. This damn thing won't even give a clue something is
wrong other than the other person coming to my place personally and
asking why I am not replying back.

[Bug 406718] [NEW] [karmic] kmix tray popup not closing on losing focus

2009-07-29 Thread Jithin Emmanuel
Public bug reported:

The kmixer popup on clicking on the system tray icon is supposed to
close when losing focus like clicking somewhere or clicking on the same
icon in system tray again.

But some times that does not happen. It just continues to be there and
won't go no matter where I click. Only way to close will be to open the
mixer and close it from there.

[Bug 406154] [NEW] plasma panel freezes for a few seconds when opening a usb drrive

2009-07-28 Thread Jithin Emmanuel
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: plasma-widgets-workspace

I have a 320 GB USB drive which has about 200 GB data.
When I mount my drive, either clicking on Device Notifier applet or by dolphin
Places, plasma panel freezes for a few seconds, ie until the drive is opened in
dolphin it freezes the panel and everything goes back to normal once dolphin
opens the drive.

Its the same if I mount manually using mount command. Plasma freezes for a few
seconds, during which
1. system tray works.
2. no other applets in plasma works - eg, desktop switcher, task manager,
notifiactions
3. alt-tab switching of applications work.

I believe its not related to device notifier.
I removed Device Notifier. Mounted from konsole. After 2 seconds it freezes the
plasma panel. I dont even have any dolphin or anything running. But the device
is properly mounted. I opened a movie in the drive with mplayer when the plasma
panel was in a frozen state.

So my guess some process related to plasma is reading something from the
device which freezes it.

2009-07-28 Thread Jithin Emmanuel
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: strigi-daemon

After resuming from suspend or hibernate, I am always getting notifications
from Nepomuk.
First Its says suspending strigi indexing to preserve system resources

Then again after few seconds it goes back to suspending this goes on for
ever until I logout or restart.

This happens only after I do a suspend or hibernation in my laptop.

One side effect of this bug is any notifications which appear during that time,
like a chat message received in kopete during this time stays in notification
area itself.
