[Bug 60764] Re: Large file transfer gives error: Corrupted MAC on input

2009-04-08 Thread Johan Christiansen
Yes, this is indeed a very embarrassing driver problem, where the
hardware TCP offloading in the driver seems to corrupt frames that use
SSL. The bug has been reported over 2½ year ago, and nobody seem to have
what it takes to get it fixed, or the guts to increase the priority so
it will reach the right people.

This affects many PC's, i therefore think that TCP offloading should be
disabled per. default until the bug gets fixed in the kernel.

[Bug 77980] Re: mtop failed to install (wrong/no password)

2008-10-16 Thread Johan Christiansen
The installer still fails on hardy!

From the man file:

The most convenient way to setup your system to use mtop is to create a
database user called mysqltop which has no password. For security pur‐
poses, this user should have all privileges set to N except Process_priv
which must be set to Y.

To grant these privileges, execute the following from the MySQL
command prompt

   For mysql 4.0.2 and greater:

   mysql grant super, reload, process on *.* to mysqltop;
   mysql grant super, reload, process on *.* to [EMAIL PROTECTED];

[Bug 181664] Openafs kernel modules fails during modpost on 2.6.24 on sparc

2008-01-09 Thread Johan Christiansen
Public bug reported:

This is the second build error on sparc64 with 2.6.24. Somehow the
sys_call_table invalidates some GPL stuff that gets rejected during modpost
after the modules complete building.
Hacking the modpost.c application in the linux headers to ignore this
circumvents the problem.
And along with the ioctl32.h fix that i posted 10 mins ago, the modules
actually build and works on sparc64.
I hope these simple bugfixes can be included in an upstream bugfix release
and include before hardy heron goes hard.

[Bug 180792] Re: SA 2007-003: Denial of service in OpenAFS fileserver

2008-01-07 Thread Johan Christiansen
About repackaging:
Since this is a bug against the fileserver, I would say that our primary focus
should be on getting a fix for dapper. Also Gutsy is of some importance since i
do belevie that there is some people out there running gutsy servers.
Considering that i have never done any .deb packaging, it would take me a long
time to find the relevant security patch from 1.4.5 to 1.4.6, apply it to
1.4.1-2 (dapper) and repackage. Perhaps with some help from Russ to find the
actual patch i will give it a go.

Another option:
What about debian stable? Is 1.4.2-6 (etch) going to be patched, if so, can we
draw from the effort there?

Perhaps not relevant:
The kernel modules for edgy is broken. This is an old bug which has been closed
with a backport release, which essentially does not solve the problem for
non-backport users and fresh installs. I'm not sure how many edgy clients are
still out here, so perhaps it's not worth the effort. But it should receive
both a security patch for the fileserver, and version upgrade to 1.4.4 at least
in order to make the kernel modules compile.

Also:
Don't forget the security issue 2007-001 (#94787) with all versions 1.4.4, so
in fact we should create two patches for dapper. Either that, or we figure out
a way to get 1.4.6 to work on dapper, what do you guys say?

[Bug 180792] SA 2007-003: Denial of service in OpenAFS fileserver

2008-01-06 Thread Johan Christiansen

A user with network access can attack a fileserver via a race condition
and cause it to crash.

A security advisory can be found upstream at http://openafs.org/security

A new openafs-release fixes this.
This is fixed for: Hardy (1.4.6)

To solve this in gutsy, feisty and dapper requires either:
1) A backport of 1.4.6 to both feisty and dapper, which is a big jump from
1.4.2 in dapper to 1.4.6 - perhaps Russ would like to comment on the

[Bug 180788] Re: Please change: Don't build on lpia arch.

2008-01-06 Thread Johan Christiansen
The makefile or deb-build script uses uname -m to determine the
architecture, and upstream needs to add LPIA to the different build
scripts and create an achitecture-config file before it will be
supported. So for openafs it is not a question of compiler flags only.
Below is a transcript from Russ Allbery.

actually supports it, i think we should remove LPIA from the buildds to
save both resources and avoid FTBFS e-mails for every package update.

[Bug 178187] Please sync openafs 1.4.6 from debian

2007-12-22 Thread Johan Christiansen
Public bug reported:

 openafs (1.4.6.dfsg1-1) unstable; urgency=low

   * New upstream release.
 - Fixes multiple serious problems with the file server.
   * Apply upstream patch for Linux 2.6.24 support. Thanks to Anders
Kaseorg for researching the necessary deltas. (Closes: #456258)
   * Apply upstream patch to allocate vnodes from the malloc pool rather
than off the stack, fixing file server problems on SPARC. Thanks to
Barney Sowood for tracking down the patch. (Closes: #448380)
   * Apply upstream patch from the 1.5 series to allow multiple realms to
be listed in the server krb.conf and hence treated as local.
   * Build bosserver with --enable-bos-new-config. On startup, if
BosConfig.new exists, it will be renamed to BosConfig before the
 configuration is read. (Closes: #453398)
   * Add a comment to /etc/openafs/afs.conf.client that the file is managed
 by debconf. (Closes: #447183)
   * Add more debugging and bug reporting instructions to README.Debian.
   * Mention in README.Debian that the server is built with supergroups
enabled and with the multiple local realm patch. (Closes: #453399)
   * Support reconfigure in postinst.
   * Recode debian/copyright to UTF-8.
   * Update to standards version 3.7.3 (no changes required).

[Bug 129480] Re: OpenAFK kernel module won't build with linux-rt kernel

2007-11-29 Thread Johan Christiansen
This problem also appears for builds on Sparc64. It seems to come from a
problem with the architecture specific system-call tables.

There is a workaround available:
go to your /usr/src/linux or whereever you have your linux-headers installed,
then open scripts/mod/modpost.c and do a search for GPL-incompatible you will
find two lines around line nr 1100 which says fatal('GPL-incompatible.') -
go on an change the word fatal to warn. Then save and close the file. Still
standing in /usr/src/linux now run make scripts to recompile the modpost
script.

This workaround enables the module to be loaded, at least for sparc64.
Futhermore it does actually seem to work, i have seen no problems so far
with 1.4.5 in ubntu 8.10 installed with this workaround.

I don't know yet. Back when i posted the bug, we found out that it was

[Bug 144402] 2px border around tabs in ephiphany in maximised window should be removed.

2007-09-24 Thread Johan Christiansen
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: epiphany

See the attached screenshot for reference:

When browsing with maximised windows in ephiphany the window border is
removed in both the left and right side og the window, thereby putting
the vertical scrollbar all the way to the screen edge. This makes it
very easy to catch the scroll-bar with the mouse because it's horizontal
size is theoretically infinite. (See Fitts law).

When another tab is opened in the browser, the tab-widget introduces a
2px frame around the whole content frame, thereby moving the scrollbars
away from the edge of the screen, and thus making it harder to hit
vertical the scrollbar.

The widget should be modifyable, so that the vertical borders can be
removed in ephiphany.

[Bug 52298] Re: openafs kernel modules don't build with edgy kernel 2.6.17

2007-04-16 Thread Johan Christiansen
Nick, The problem is that there are no maintainer of the openafs source package
in ubuntu! So we have to apply somebody from MOTU to do the update. Please
submit your testing results to the backport request here:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/edgy-backports/+bug/90711

John Dong has already tested the server modules, and with three of us
having tested the client modules, i hope we can get this backport
approved.

2007-04-13 Thread Johan Christiansen
Nick, that sounds great! But what do you mean by reiterate our requests
individually, and what information are you suggesting that we are
missing at the present time?

Another question, about the maintainer. Sam Hartman is listed here, but
he hasn't been really active on the bug-reports. I think we need
somebody who can change priority of the bugs. Anyone who knows Sam that
can answer to this? Russ has already given an answer, but how be it that
Sam is listed as maintainer, when he's in fact not... If we can't find a
maintainer, maybe we should assign the source package to the MOTU group
or something insted, so we at least have a possibility to have some
control...

[Bug 52298] Re: openafs kernel modules don't build with edgy kernel 2.6.17

2007-04-12 Thread Johan Christiansen
After a somewhat lenghty discussion on #ubuntu-motu, it has been
established, that it's probably not a good idea to try a SRU, since the
shift from 1.4.1 to a newer version will probably be rejected.

Instead, it was decided to try and get 1.4.4 into backports. I'm
currently looking into this, but am not sure entirely what to do. I
guess allee has already proven that the 1.4.4 modules source from feisty
can compile with the 2.6.17 kernel included in edgy. As far as i
understand, this is enough to post a backport request.

I will therefore try to do the same as allee, and build the feisty
modules on edgy and test them. If i succeed i will post a backport
request.

[Bug 52298] Re: openafs kernel modules don't build with edgy kernel 2.6.17

2007-04-12 Thread Johan Christiansen
Thank you Nick.

I also successfully built the feisty modules and tested the Client. I
browsed an image library constantly for about 1 hour, and everything
seemed to work. I haven't tested the server components on edgy, but I am
running 1.4.4-1 on a feisty server and they work great there as well...

I did however run into a problem with unloading the openafs kernel
module. This is a known bug (debian #417917) - and not relevant to the
backporting issue since it also apply for 1.4.2. The problem appeared
only on my QEMU test machine, and not on my friends edgy-laptop where i
tried the same.

All in all, 1.4.4-1 seems to fix _A LOT_ of issues with openafs posted
over the last couple of months, and the initial tests done by Nick,
Allee and Björn suggests that 1.4.4-1 is working in edgy. I only feel
that somebody should test the server packages before we submit the
backport request? Do you agree?

[Bug 103177] Re: boot-time race condition initializing md

2007-04-12 Thread Johan Christiansen
What Jeff is describing is exactly what happens. I just have to wait a
few seconds, then the sd? devices and the /dev/md0 is created
automatically. I can then press ctrl+d to continue. It's like it just
needs a few extra seconds to find the drives before mdadm tries to
assemble it.

To answer your question more specifically: Yes, it does assemble md0
before i press ctrl+d.

- Tomorrow i'll have physical access to the machine again, and i can try
to record a little movie of it happening. Please ask if you have further
questions. This is a urgent bug that needs to be fixed before feisty
release.

[Bug 103177] Re: boot-time race condition initializing md

2007-04-11 Thread Johan Christiansen
Same problem here:
The mdadm tries to assemble /dev/md0 before /dev/sda1 and /dev/sdb1 appears.

Workaround:
1) Boot kernel with break=mount (This causes the initramfs to pause somewhere
before mdadm but after udev)
2) Wait a few seconds while udev detects /dev/sda1 and /dev/sdb1
3) Press Ctrl-D to continue startup, mdadm can now assemble /dev/md0

I suppose the sleep 10 workaround in one of the initramfs files will
solve my problem, but i was hoping for something cleaner to show up.

I just heard on #ubuntu-motu that something that looks like a fix has
been released to edgy-proposed (which is a repo that you have to add
manually (either using synaptic or using commandline))

I'm currently running Feisty so i cant tell you if it's true that this
fixes the problem for edgy. So could somebody try to enable edgy-
proposed and check?

The line in /etc/apt/sources.list would look like this:
deb http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ edgy-proposed restricted main multiverse
universe

I hope that this may be the solution for edgy, and that it would be
merged to feisty soon :)

[Bug 59367] Re: mono crash on banshee music load

2006-09-20 Thread Johan Christiansen
Sorry, i forgot to return with the output. Somehow after an upgrade, it
stopped crashing. This bug must have been a duplicate of something else.
So i can confirm that a fix has been released... Just not what :)

[Bug 59222] Re: Computer isn't discoverable

2006-09-19 Thread Johan Christiansen
@fbk, Yes, the failing pin-code on outgoing connections is due to the missing
passkey-agent. I fixed the pairing issue by using:
sudo hciconfig hci piscan (Fixes #59222)
and afterwards installing passkey-agent from source (Fixes #56651)

Could anyone write a small hint/guide on how i get passkey-agent
installed? And why isn't this thing fixed yet when there are a fix in
Debian?

[Bug 59367] mono crash on banshee music load

2006-09-07 Thread Johan Christiansen
Public bug reported:

Loading music from a readonly drive formatted with reiserfs makes mono
crash. every. single. time. This apllies for edgy.

This is the fstab entry
/dev/sda2 /media/home reiserfsdefaults,ro 0 1

it is to be noted that my real /home is on another harddrive. I just
want to load the music that i have stored in my dapper. Normally
/dev/sda2 and /dev/sdb2 is also a raid1 array.

[Bug 43169] Re: RFE: Update pam to 0.99 or greater

2006-08-01 Thread Johan Christiansen
pam_keyring would be really nice to be enabled by default, to give the
user more of a just works sensation. If pam needs to be upgraded, it
should be so in edgy. Maybe a specification for this ought to be
written?

[Bug 50404] Re: 1+1 in wxmaima = maxima crash

2006-06-20 Thread Johan Christiansen
Maxima only crashes when run from wxmaxima. Running in terminal, maxima
is working fine. So i can't figure out wether it's a maxima or a
wxmaxima problem.

Without installing debugging symbols, here is what i get:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ ps aux|grep maxima
johan13156 0.7 2.2 129928 23104 ?S11:58 0:01 wxmaxima

It seems that maxima isn't crashing afterall. Somehow it's told to exit
normally...

[Bug 50404] 1+1 in wxmaima = maxima crash

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: maxima

wxMaxima 0.6.4 http://wxmaxima.sourceforge.net
Maxima restarted.

CLIENT: Lost socket connection ...
Restart maxima with 'Maxima-Restart maxima'.

Restarting maxima does not help. It fails everything!

Downgrading the maxima package makes it work... But that's a breezy
package.
