[Bug 197163] Re: Mathematica renders fonts incorrectly in Hardy
I don't mean to be too off-topic, but as mentioned previously you need /etc/printcap for Mathematica to find your printers. You can generate this in hardy by adding Printcap /etc/printcap to your /etc/cups/cupsd.conf file, and then restarting cupsys via sudo /etc/init.d/cupsys restart This might be useful for those that wish to restore printing without removing the Mathematica-provided qt libraries. -- Mathematica renders fonts incorrectly in Hardy https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/197163 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I was following this bug over at Bug #195052 for a while (https://bugs.launchpad.net/inkscape/+bug/195052 ), and that bug was slated to be included/fixed for the 8.04.1 milestone. When it was marked as a dupe of this bug, I think that got erased (it no longer shows up on https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+milestone/ubuntu-8.04.1 ). Will this be in the Hardy repos soon? Ever? [Bug 232443] Re: Let the user choose between ntfs-3g and ntfs kernel driver
I would like to suggest not closing this bug, as I recently ran in to a damaged ntfs partition that I was unable to mount using ntfs-3g, but a friend *was* able to mount using the kernel driver. At the very least, when ntfs-3g is installed it should make a mount.ntfskernel or something so that people troubleshooting have the option of using the kernel ntfs driver. Even if the reason why my friend was able to mount the drive was not due to differences in ntfs-3g vs kernel ntfs, we should still leave the option on the table. I have nothing against ntfs-3g as the default in ubuntu, but it seems like the kernel ntfs driver should still be accessible for troubleshooting/recovery cases where ntfs-3g might not work. Bryce, Yikes, thanks for pointing that out! Unfortunately, I just tried going back to run that command, and every time inkscape crashes, it seems to hang other things as well, so that I can not click in the terminal running the gdb to run the (gdb) backtrace full command. I tried killing the /usr/bin/inkscape program, but nothing happened (maybe because it's under control of gdb??) I have to end up killing the gdb program to regain control, and then cannot run the backtrace. I've tried attaching from a tty to inkscape already running, but when I went back to the desktop inkscape was all greyed out and not happy, and I could not continue with the actions that would cause the crash. What is the latest package of inkscape in hardy? I have 0.46-0ubuntu1, and I haven't noticed any updates to inkscape in the past day or to, so I'll wait a bit longer to see if inkscape updates to re-confirm the bug. [Bug 205667] [NEW] Inkscape crashes when using 3d box after attempting to render latex, gears, tree, barcode, maybe others.
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: inkscape I couldn't get apport to pick up this crash, otherwise this would be more complete. Inkscape does not render a LaTeX formula at all. Running Render-LaTeX Forumula seems to go fine, (pstoedit seems to complete without error), yet no equation is displayed on the page. If I subsequently try to use the perspective/3d tool (new in 0.46), inkscape crashes very hard, and I have to kill it from the terminal. The crash also occurs after rendering a random tree, gears, or barcode (which all render fine, unlike latex). Rendering a Grid did not cause the 3d box crash. The 3d/perspective tool works fine if I do not try to use those render tools. All other drawing tools (circles, squares, etc.) seem to run fine whether or not I try to render those objects (tree, gears, barcode, latex). The latex portion of this bug seems related to https://bugs.launchpad.net/inkscape/+bug/195052, but I have not seen the second portion (the crash when using the 3d box tool). I have attached a backtrace obtained by following the instructions at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProgramCrash and https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Backtrace. [Bug 190848] Re: font in terminal does not resemble font in preview
@Michael Kuhn: The provided workaround did not work for me, it had no effect. I was able to somewhat correct the problem by editing ~/.fonts.conf , which was a file that didn't exist in gutsy (I checked one of my installs). I made sure to have the line consthintfull/const rather than consthintmedium/const at the appropriate place in that file. This makes the font look better, but I think some antialiasing or something still needs to take place, as the font in the terminal does not look as good as in other apps, like gedit. So, it looks like most gnome apps are using the global settings which are set by the appearance applet, but these are not written to the home directory, so other programs like terminal (no idea why this is affected, it's a gnome app) and qt apps look to ~/.fonts.conf for their behavior. I tried removing ~/.fonts.conf, but that also had no effect, and the font was still ugly. -- font in terminal does not resemble font in preview https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/190848 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 190848] Re: font in terminal does not resemble font in preview
Fixed! Sorry for flooding the list, but I think I've got a workaround for the issue. In ~/.fonts.conf , not only should consthintfull/const replace consthintmedium/const in the hintstyle area, but constrgb/const should replace constnone/const in the rgba section. I've attached my .fonts.conf file as an example. Note that this doesn't solve the underlying issue, that some program isn't modifying this file like it should, but at least this points to what needs to be done. I tried to reproduce the issue on my laptop with a gutsy live cd, and was unable to. I can reproduce it on my desktop with the Gutsy live cd also, so I think it's either a hardware issue with my desktop hardware, or some kind of driver issue for my desktop hardware. -- Wireless Mouse causes intermittent audio issues in Gutsy https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/180963 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 184362] linux-image-2.6.22-14-server fails to install on feisty - gutsy upgrade, depmod fails to run
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: linux-image-2.6.22-14-server I initially encountered this bug when upgrading my laptop from feisty- gutsy (i386). The package couldn't install, so the upgrade process broke. I was able to reboot, and I think I finished the upgrade process by manually removing some feisty-only packages (desktop-effects and such). Attempt to install linux-image-2.6.22-14-server fail still. Another question I have is why that package was pulled in in the first place? I run a desktop environment, and always boot the -generic kernels, and had no -server kernels installed in feisty, so I don't know why the upgrade-manager tried to pull in this package. I eventually uninstalled the package, but it still crashed the upgrade, so this should be fixed. contents of /var/crash/linux-image-2.6.22-14-server.0.crash: sudo cat linux-image-2.6.22-14-server.0.crash ProblemType: Package Architecture: i386 Date: Sat Jan 12 19:10:37 2008 Package: linux-image-2.6.22-14-server 2.6.22-14.47 SourcePackage: linux-source-2.6.22 ErrorMessage: subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 1 DpkgTerminalLog: Log started: 2008-01-12 19:10:11 Setting up linux-image-2.6.22-14-server (2.6.22-14.47) ... [Bug 180963] Wireless Mouse causes intermittent audio issues in Gutsy
Public bug reported: I recently obtained a Logitech LX-7 Wireless USB mouse (recognized in dmesg as a MX 1000) for my desktop (abit av8 via chipset) running gutsy, and it seems to cause intermittent audio issues. The specific issue depends on the program being used. Listen: short skips while listening to mp3's, occurs every few minutes or so Mplayer: audio drops out on movies for about a half a second or so, occurs (apparently) randomly, with a frequency of every few minutes. Totem: seemed to only get the skips while watching movies XMMS: Didn't seem affected, though my ears might not have been able to tell. I reattached my PS/2 mouse and unplugged the USB mouse during a cold reboot, the issues seemed to disappear in MPlayer (only one I checked). Upon plugging in the USB receiver again, the issues returned. The only new module that appeared to load was lmpcm_usb. rmmod-ing that module did not fix the audio issues, though the wireless mouse was still functional. Removing the wireless receiver fixed the audio issues. Changing the USB port the receiver is connected to does not fix the issue (various ones on the back and front of the case). The issue is present on the Gutsy live cd as well. The issue also occurs whether or not the USB Wireless mouse is connected at boot time. On my feisty laptop (Intel Core 2 Duo), using an earlier version of this mouse (still an LX-7) does not seem to cause any issues. I would greatly appreciate some help in resolving this issue, and am more than willing to provide any files needed. EDIT: I should mention that the drops are present in mplayer with -afm mad, -afm ffmpeg, and -afm mp3. Using -ao oss (rather than alsa) seems to work around the issue, but it may just take longer for the drops to present themselves. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Description changed: I recently obtained a Logitech LX-7 Wireless USB mouse (recognized in dmesg as a MX 1000) for my desktop (abit av8 via chipset) running gutsy, and it seems to cause intermittent audio issues. [Bug 41134] Re: Does not store WPA-Enterprise password in keyring
I can confirm this bug in Feisty (WPA Enterprise, PEAP, TKIP, using username, password, and certificate). I have to re-enter my info every time, but I also have to unlock the keyring every time. It might be writing to both gconf and the keyring (I admit I don't really know how the keyring works). The SSID on my WPA Enterprise network that I connect to on campus has the SSID hidden (do all WPA Enterprise ones hide the SSID?), so it seems that network-manager doesn't know that the network is there, and doesn't try to automatically connect, like it does with all of the other WPA (Personal / PSK) networks I have used. I'm not exactly sure what you're asking for with make and model of device. [Bug 118188] cdrom won't mount in 2.6.20-16-generic kernel
Public bug reported: With the new packaged kernel update in Feisty (2.6.20-16-generic), my cdrom on a gateway laptop won't automount anymore. I did a fresh feisty install on this machine. When the -16-generic kernel boots, the cdrom device file is created at /dev/hda, but /dev/scd0 is the mount point in the fstab (yes, /dev/scd0, c before d). When the -15-generic kernel boots, the cdrom device file is created at /dev/scd0, and everything works great. I am not sure if this is a kernel bug or a module that got updated, as I'm not knowledgeable about that stuff. In Places- Computer there are two cdrom drives that show up, and there is only one cd drive on the computer. This does not happen when I boot the -15-generic kernel. ** Affects: Ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed -- cdrom won't mount in 2.6.20-16-generic kernel https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/118188 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

@Albert I'm not sure if that is the same bug, if you say you're experiencing it with 915resolution. The bug that has been reported here (at least in my case) does NOT involve 915resolution (in fact, that's when stuff works), but rather with the xserver-xorg-video-intel package/driver, not the xserver-xorg-video-i810 + 915resolution package/driver/patch combo.
